Actually some pretty cool stuff in many of these artists careers from before they made it in a different direction.

But he was once just another voice in a crowded room. Wrote songs with his buddies Prine, Goodman, Jerry Jeff, Keith Sykes, etc. and Key West was where he discovered his following. Or, it discovered him.
He used to write under pseudonyms and I love some of the before the beach stuff as much as any of the trop rock type. I don’t really consider him trop rock. Some, sure but I like all kinds. Except the gays and blacks, of course. Other than that, I mean.

Note: Instead of "stepped on a poptop" it was supposed to be stepped on a hot honey bun, rinsed it off in the kitchen sink after I borrowed pliers from the clerk.
And that was just the first few lines.
Suffice to say, he wasn't a fan of my writing and made all kinds of unnecessary changes to an otherwise masterpiece.
Just thought I would pass that on.

Saw a clip from an oldie, but one of my favorites, Every Which Way But Loose. Clint kicking ass, still in his prime. One of the funniest parts of that flick, besides Clyde the Rangeetang, was the biker gang, the Black Widows. I pulled up the cast to see who some of them were, and it turns out that the biker called Dallas, was Bill McKinney. What else was Bill McKinney famous for?

Came across an odd, but somewhat interesting tidbit. The voice of Shrek was originally done by Chris Farley. They had over 80% of the lines done when Farley died. Instead of getting a Farley impersonator to finish it, they got Mike Myers. When they got Myers, they basically changed almost the entire script to fit Myers style, because he didn't want to try and do it they way Farley voiced the character.
BTW, I'll still watch the original Shrek when it comes on.

I know I've talked about this before with Caddyshack. But it's funny to try and picture the "what if's" with regard to certain characters. Don Rickles was originally considered for Dangerfield's, Al Czervik. I'm older, and grew up with Rickles being one of the top comedians of his time. They were spot on in trying to cast him for that role, because Rickles' whole schtick was Czervik X 10.
Not even remotely trying to say he would have played the role better than Rodney. Not at all. RD was the man. Just that I don't think the movie would be thought of in any different light had Rickles played it.

Been watching this O. Henry Playhouse series from 1957 on Fawesome which amounts to 39 episodes over three seasons. The lead role is played by none other than character actor Thomas Mitchell (Uncle Billy) for those who are familiar w "It's a Wonderful Life." A young Alan Hale (as mentioned) is in one story. DeForest Kelley, Charles Bronson, John Carradine, Ernest Borgnine, Maureen Stapleton, Otto Krueger are seen in other half hour episodes. Nothing riveting just adequate sleep prep for old men.
* So in 1952 a movie titled O. Henry's Full House came out that was divided into five segments and the Christmas story line from Ben being in jail in Mayberry would have found its inspiration from the O. Henry short story "The Cop and the Anthem," which is one of the segments.
The movie is loaded with stars within each segment including the likes of Anne Baxter, Jeanne Crain, Farley Granger, Marilyn Monroe, Richard Widmark, Warner Baxter et al.
It's also narrated by John Steinbeck.
I'm certain some of these people were commies before I was even born and I must confess I have not checked their papers nor do I have knowledge of their political affiliation to pass judgement.

of Hanks’ views but the theory he was running with Epstein grew legs out of thin air from qanon. He’s never been on any flight logs that anyone has seen either. Lin Wood ran with that stuff erroneously- But quite a few others are on those logs. Most notably Bill Gates.

One of the I did not know's that I'll get face palmed for. Just saw a reunion picture of guys that were in the Terminator flicks. Obviously, they were much, much older, and the only one I could really recognize was Robert Patrick, because he has such a distinctive look. Arnold was not in the photo.
Anyway, I looked up a couple of the names so I could put a face with it, one of which was Michael Biehn. I know I've talked about this before with Caddyshack. But it's funny to try and picture the "what if's" with regard to certain characters. Don Rickles was originally considered for Dangerfield's, Al Czervik. I'm older, and grew up with Rickles being one of the top comedians of his time. They were spot on in trying to cast him for that role, because Rickles' whole schtick was Czervik X 10.
Not even remotely trying to say he would have played the role better than Rodney. Not at all. RD was the man. Just that I don't think the movie would be thought of in any different light had Rickles played it.

There are some things you don’t appreciate until later in life. And believe me, I’m later in life. For instance, Seinfeld is one of, if not the most successful sitcoms of all time. Couldn’t get into it at all while it was current. Many years later, I started watching the reruns, and now I can’t think of one I haven’t seen at least 4-5 times.
Monty Python was the same way. Couldn’t stand English humor. Just silly and stupid. Didn’t find it funny in the least. Then, years later, I’m wondering what didn’t I get? Why hasn’t this been in my life all this time? So many classic scenes, but one of my absolute favorites is Biggus Dickus from Life of Brian. What I did not know about that scene, is that everybody was told not to laugh, but they couldn’t keep it in, so that allowed Michael Palin (Pontius Pilate) to go with it and ad lib, which helped make that bit golden.
And speaking of Life of Brian, the very premise that Jesus was the one crucified because the crowd wanted to hear Pontius Pilate say with his speech impediment, “Rewease Bawabas” is comedy jeenyus.

I loved the Honeymooner reruns and Jackie Gleason. Gleason ad libbed it for the most part as he seldom rehearsed.
Up until that point America had been content with comedic duos playing off of one another or straight up joke tellers.
Brits had a quick biting dry style that they incorporated into everyday
conversation. Our family situational comedies were warm, cute and overall entertaining but American's as a whole were simply boring, possibly because of religious piety.
Thank God for Jews who were funny in spite of their beliefs or we would be bereft of any and all humor- much like we have today with the feeling Nazi's deciding what is appropriate.
As a teen I loved "the Holy Grail" because it was this troupe throwing the kitchen sink into comedy. It was irreverent, historically inaccurate and combined all forms of humor. So there was something for everyone... including fart jokes if that was your bag.
And for the record, I never found Friends to be funny.
Seinfeld was a far funnier sitcom and it's not even debatable.

The Baby Hanks/ Lieutenant Castillo of Miami Vice storyline really felt like the show had jumped the shark and was riding it around an above-ground pool. When it adds in the creepy-feeling sexual tension between Deb and Dex? The shark drowned.
And then season 7... It's like Season 6 of Sopranos or Godfather III or Caddyshack 2. I pretend it doesn't exist. No doubt the girl playing Dexter's new romantic interest (Yvonne Strahovski) was lithe and sexy, but she just didn't have the "it" factor to match with Deb, Dex, dead Rita, Batista, or any of the rest of the cast. The story really stretched the bounds of credulity and the finale was one of the worst of any series I've ever watched. It was a -43 on a scale of 1-5.
I give New Blood credit for not just abandoning that butchered abortion of a final season and leaning into it in a way that took some of the stench off.
Dexter was one of my absolute favorites through season 4. After that, though... I watched it mostly out of obligation, slogging through to the end.

Agree...for me the first four seasons of Dexter is as committed as I've ever been to a series. Beyond that I would be happy to wipe all of the seasons that followed in favor of a sequel where Deb kills Dexter to end the cycle of killing.
I kept watching to the point where I have absolutely no interest in anything Hall or Carpenter do anymore because of the cycle of love interests and multiple characters introduced in subsequent seasons.
Dexter the lover became more central to the writing than Dexter the serial killer.

Don Henley wrote The Boys of Summer for Tom Petty. Mike Campbell, Petty's guitarist, put the music to it and pitched to Tom, but he didn't feel it fit on the record they were making. So, Henley recorded it with Campbell along with Steve Porcaro from Toto and a couple of others.
When they completed the song, they were having an after party at the studio to celebrate, and Bob Seger dropped by. Henley played him the song, and Seger told him he needed to sing it higher, because chicks dig that. So Henley spent the next week experimenting with higher vocals and wound up re-recording the song that way. It became his big hit from that album.

- Paul wrote Hard Luck Woman for Rod Stewart. After Rod decided it was too similar to other songs on his upcoming album, KISS recorded it themselves. Peter took vocals. It turned out to be a top 20 hit, with many people assuming it was actually Stewart who released it. Song was later remade by Garth Brooks.
- Paul wrote God of Thunder and was pissed/disappointed when the song was turned over to Gene during the recording of the album. Was the right move. It became an iconic song and concert staple for the Demon. There's a demo floating around with Paul singing. Would have been a very different song.

I'm looking at the cast...wait...Tim Robbins was Merlin? WTF? Why didn't I know this? Did I know this? I guess I should have.
Turns out, Robbins had only been in acting a couple of years at that time, and was a relative unknown. He didn't really get "famous" until a couple of years later in Bull Durham. In Top Gun, most of his speaking parts were with a helmet and mask on. But, I have no clue why I never caught that. The dude is in one of my top 3 all timers, Shawshank.

Louis Gossett, Jr. - who died today at 87 - won a Best Supporting Oscar (deserved) for his role as Gunnery Sgt. "I Want Your DOR" Foley in Officer and a Gentleman.
He was headed for a possible career in the NBA. Had been invited to camp with the Knicks. While he was recovering, he took an acting class.
I find that interesting. No injury, maybe no class, maybe nobody's ever heard of him. Weird how things work.

I never could figure him out. He was a well enough actor that enjoyed many roles during his lifetime. However, as he got older he publicly seemed to get bitter.

If you're familiar with The Rolling Stones, you may know the haunting, jamming ass tune called Gimme Shelter. Great tune and concert staple. The Stones often used backup singers in a lot of their stuff, many of them from the Deep South since their brand of rock often incorporated Bluesy sounds. Gimme Shelter is a tune that has an undercurrent of impending doom and is no exception to that bluesy sound. Some of Keith's best guitar work to me. The main accompanying singer to Mick in this song is a lady from New Orleans named Merry Clayton. She was/is no stranger in the music industry having been on many rock albums over the last 50 years or so.
But in 1969 during the recording of Gimme Shelter, she was pregnant. Her part of the song had such strong vocal pieces, and the vocal strain was so hard, that its been attributed to her having a miscarriage later that night, after recording wrapped up.
At 2:58 and 3:01 you can hear the peak of her vocal strain when her voice cracks. Crazy that this short musical timeframe could possibly be the cause of a miscarriage.

You know I'm a heights and weights kind of guy, but normally, that's for the Auburn Tigers. A lot of celebrities who are pretty short, come off as bigger and badder on screen. Tom Cruise is a prime example, having played so many action roles, you wouldn't think he's actually just 5'7".
Danny Trejo is another one that plays a bad ass role in most flicks. He checks in at 5'6".
Another that surprised me is Jon Stewart, Chizzad's favorite. He towers over everyone at 5'6" as well.
On the other side of things, I was surprised to see some celebs that were much taller than they come across on screen. Usually, they try to give the illusion of height, as in Cruise's case. Maybe they try to tone it down with some of these.

Ive never actually seen the number. It haunted her for years though. Crazy part is, about a decade or so ago, she had her legs amputated below the knee after a bad car accident. I feel bad for this lady.

The lead singer of that band so prominently featured in that song - Aimee Mann - is married to the older brother of Sean Penn; Michael Penn - who had a few hits in the 80s as well.

I didn’t know Beverly Hills Cop was originally written for Sylvester Stallone. He took the script, rewrote it to remove all the comedic elements. Studio didn’t care for his version so he backed out of the project.
Murphy got BHC. Stallone took his script ideas and made Cobra.

I also did not know that the original plan for Breaking Bad had both Hank and Walter Jr. set to die in the first season. Jesse was also slated to be killed.
The departure of the annoying Jr would have been no loss, but Hank being out might have cost us the purple deliciousness of Marie Schrader which would have been tragic.
Hank was saved when the writers strike delayed the process and they had time to rethink the plot. Jesse was saved because they realized in the pilot how much his character could contribute. Nobody knows why Jr survived.
