Title: Actual Auburn Baseball Thread
Post by: AUChizad on March 15, 2010, 11:30:13 AM
Figured one thread would suffice to cover the whole season.

Arizona State kicked our shit in this weekend.

Outside of the season opener, so far this season was looking good until that mess of a series.

Oh well, SEC opens this weekend. Hopefully we learned something from that ass reaming.

I was really looking forward to watching the baseball team against bama last week just to get an idea of what we were really looking at this season, anddddddd I was pumped about our winning streak...but the game got postponed. You guys should try to make it for the rescheduling...I think it's March 24th. Not very many opportunities to watch Auburn baseball and drink beer.

Liked the scheduling of @Ariz. State.  Like Coach said it gives the kids and coaches an opportunity to see where they are at.  I like the direction of the program and love to see good college baseball.

Personally I would be happy with them making it to Hoover.  I don't think that would be too much to ask for.

From all I can gather, we have major pitching problems.  It sounds like we have a good chance for a decent year, but I'm not hopeful for a major run of any sorts.

@georgia this weekend.  They were swept by FSU, lost to Bama and GT. They appear to give up a lot of runs.  Should be an interesting series to see what AU can bring to the table.

Lets get this conference record off to a good start.

Atta way to start the SEC.

Got off to a rough start and last weekend was rough, but other than that it's looking like we at least will finally be making it to Atlanta.

game 2
4-3 AU

According to the uga stream.  Two conference games and five earn runs.  Hope it is not uga sucks, but that our staff is shaping up.

Nice way to start conference play on the road.  I have a feeling uga will be at the bottom of the east when all is said and done.  Not taking too much from this, other than a 3-0 record and a great step towards Hoover.

While AU dropped 2 of 3 it is nice to see we have quality pitching with our day 2 and day 3 starters.  Day 3 killed us a few years ago, so to win a game 3 against a top 15 team is nice.  Happy with the progress.

I think this maybe the best coaches we have had with the big three sports in a long time.  As much as it pains to say...kudos to JJ.

You might want to look at stats before betting big time on things.  This was only Ward's second start for the Trojans, he has been a relief pitcher all season.  It was Smith's 3rd start for Auburn, so it was about equal in the pitching department.  Then both teams relief pitchers that came in were about equal.  In reality Troy has a better baseball program than Auburn does, evidenced by who has received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament more recently.

Auburn beat Troy twice last year.  Huge difference in SEC baseball and the Gulf South or SunBelt or Patriot league or whatever they play in.  It's not just a game here or there.  A good pitching performance or an off day or whatever will get Texas beat by Bethune Cookman.  It's grinding it out weekly against LSU, Florida, Bama, Arkansas, SC etc....

18-10 overall and 5-4 in the SEC doesn't blow you away but compared to where this program usually is by now, I'll take it.  Problem is, the whole SEC looks to be its usual, dominant self again.

Auburn's Justin Fradejas SEC player of week; Tigers return to national rankings

April 12, 2010, 3:32PM

Auburn outfielder Justin Fradejas was named the SEC Player of the Week and the Tigers returned to the national rankings for the first time since 2007 Monday.

That's some of the positive fallout from Auburn beating defending national champion LSU two out of three games over the weekend.

Fradejas was 9-for-19 (.474) with three doubles, six RBI and six runs scored last week, helping Auburn to a 4-1 record and its first home series win over No. 3 LSU since 1998.

Fradejas executed a safety squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth to score the game-winning run in Auburn's 6-5 win over LSU on Sunday.

Fradejas is the third Auburn player to be named the SEC Player of the Week, joining Brian Fletcher and Hunter Morris.

Auburn is ranked 23rd in both the Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball polls. It's the first time Auburn has been ranked since March 19, 2007, when it was No. 21.

The Tigers play New Orleans at home Wednesday before playing Vanderbilt in Nashville over the weekend.

Just got back from the first game. Sat on the home team side a couple of sections down from the Home Bullpen - first row.... Saw up close and personal the monster HR the Kent. player hit around the 6th or 7th. Was a back and forth game all the way. The pitching was NOT clutch for us. I think it was Austin Hubbard who came in around the 7th - he kind of let the game go - total implosion. All in all - a good experience, great day, nice weather up there (there is only 10 mins from me). Looks like we are in better shape in the 2nd game already.  Note: The home ump was terrible in the first game missing 2 blatent calls. The guy looked confused and was actually overruled on another call by another ump.

Lookie who's cars I saw parked outside JHS after Game 1 of Sunday's BB Doubleheader....

Both cars had Oklahoma Dealer Badges and the Chevy Truck on the left had an Auburn Vanity Plate with the initials CUL. First thought was Luper and Trooper.  Started to walk in since the gates were wide assed open but there appeared to be a practice of sorts going on and there were a few guys at the entrance to the field looking like they were ready to pounce on anyone who went any further.

True dat, but our pitching was on fire today. They wound up with something like 39 K's. They can be a deadly combination when they get all synched up.

Right now Arkansas & Ole Miss are tied for first in the West.

Auburn is now in solid third. LSU getting swept by Florida helped us out there.

Auburn is now ranked 12th nationally.

BA is the authority. I was basing it on this poll (http://www.warrennolan.com/baseball/2010/rpi), which was referenced here. (http://blog.al.com/auburnbeat/2010/05/after_taking_two_of_three_from.html)

The Tigers took two of three over the weekend at Arkansas, a team ranked as high as No. 7 in some polls. That vaulted Auburn's RPI up to No. 12 nationally, according to at least one site.

Elsewhere in the conference, UT beats UGA 25-5. bammer drops their second game of the series to the Gators, 14-8. UT takes over 8th place & bammer drops to 9th in the conference standings.

Auburn's 5 game winning streak was snapped last night.

The game against South Alabama went into 11 innings and they ended up winning 10-9.

Doesn't mean much as far as postseason goes, so hopefully we're ready for the home series with Tennessee this weekend.

A 2 out, 2 run homer by the Jags in the 9th sent it to extra innings. Sucks to lose, but hopefully we got it out of the system and will stomp some UT ass this weekend.

So series with Tennessee tonight.

If we win this series, we are a 100% lock to go to Hoover, no matter what bammer does.

Two wins between the next two series is all it will take.

The Vols have been hot, winning the last three series and 8 games in a row (a whole extra series more than our winning streak that was just snapped by South Alabama).

We started the season around a Colter Bean, and as you can see, have been elevated to a Frank Thomas. If we win the SEC tournament, we may be at a Tim Hudson level going into the NCAA tournament.

Don't forget, we also have pretty much locked up hosting a Regional Tournament.

These predictions were before winning the west. The West Champion has always hosted their own Regional since the new College World Series format has been implemented.

Winner plays LSU. They will then have to beat them twice. LSU only has to win once to advance, but the winner of this game has to beat them twice to make it to the championship game.

Same deal with Bammer and the winner of Vandy & Florida. They have to beat bammer twice, but bammer only has to win once to advance.

Anyone else have any info on tv or stream?

Tigers beat Jax State 9-7. That's the same score of our game with them roughly 3 weeks ago. The Gamecocks are pesky bastards. This one was a scrap all the way through the 8th.

We play Clemson tomorrow.

You might not miss anything.  But, if the kids cooperate I will update.

Game one was delayed for 90 minutes by rain and the first inning took 31 minutes, so the AU game might not start until 8 or so.

I just turned it on and it is Clemson 2 AU 0 top 1.

They said GA Tech was beating bama.. I think they said 5-2?

Update... 0-3 Au to bat in the 1st.

Still 3-0 going to the bottom half of the third.

AU's Dayton (pitcher) up to 70 pitches already.  He's had to work his ass off so far.  Clemson has fouled off at least half of those pitches.
Title: Re: Actual Auburn Baseball Thread
Post by: AuburnChopper 3.0 on June 05, 2010, 10:07:33 PM
...annnnd another 1 -2-3 inning for AU.

Had a sign of life when Jenkins reached 1st on an error by the shortstop, but we promptly hit into a double play next at bat.

We are getting no-hit to this point and we don't look any closer to putting a bat on Harmon (Clemson pitcher).

Going to the 8th, Clemson up 5-1 still....

Hope they can pull one out Monday.

Who does AU have left to throw?

Jon Luke Jacobs will probably get the start. In the bullpen, we have Michael Hurst, Sean Ray, and Zach Blatt as legitimate options. Maybe Stephen Kohlscheen and Dexter Price in a pinch. Chances are you'll see all of those first 4. Unless Jon Luke Jacobs just pitches out of his mind.

Cory Luckie, Grant Dayton, Cole Nelson, Austin Hubbard, Bradley Hendrix, and Slade Smith are pretty much done.

The umpiring in these games has been horrible.  Not just bad, but fucking disqustingly horrible.

The only reason it's not a bigger story I believe, is because it's been bad for both teams.   The strike zones are as big as Jumbo.

Bottom line, they've been absolutely clutch w/ runners in scoring position, and Auburn has been anything but for the most part.

I love that these guys are so involved and trying to generate interest.

I fucking love it.

I love the synergy between the three major programs. I loved how Barbee went on the Tiger Prowl. By the way, the announcers said he was there for several of the games this weekend as well.

I sound like our recruits, but it just really feels like one big family. It seemed so segmented before. I love that all of these coaches are so supportive of each other's programs. I love that they all seem to be as genuine of an Auburn fan as I am, not just fulfilling their contractual business duties.

I also loved Foxhall going apeshit on the ump when they ejected him.

I really feel like we have entered a new golden age of Auburn athletics.

A certain painted cat weeps.

Y'all are a bunch of sunshine pumping mother fuckers. I'm fucking pissed. I hate losing.

Matter of fact, I think the words, "God damnit, I fucking hate being an Auburn fan sometimes" came out of my mouth when I listened to Rod call the Clemson HR in the top of the first.

I'll say this though. They battled and had PLENTY of opportunities to win. They just didn't do it. And for that, I am pissed...

Just kidding on the sunshine pumping part. I am excited too, but feel we blew a big opportunity to make some noise this year. Just win and we play a super regional at home with a chance to go to Omaha

Well, yeah, winning would have been better.

I'm just sayin, our goal this year was to make it to Hoover for the first time in 7 years. We did that. We got to host our own regional. Going from suck-ass to instant domination overnight would be nice, but it's pretty far removed from reality.

I'm just happy that we've surpassed our goal. We're surpassing Hal Baird's turnaround rate, and that bar was not set low. Next year the goal is Omaha. Hopefully we can surpass that one as well.

If this staff can "nudge" Mummey, Morris, Dayton and Nelson (All who have been drafted today) to stay and finish what they started, it would be a step in the right direction...

That would be a huge thing for Coach Paw to pull off, but I don't know of Morris will stay. He was already drafted much earlier, in the second round, by the Red Sox in 2007, so I don't know if he will stay in college another year.

It sucked that we lost, but seeing how huge leaps were made this year compared to previous years, I will say this year was a major success. AU baseball is back to being an SEC contender and hopefully an NCAA regular.

All those guys you mentioned are most likely gone.

Baseball is not like football in that regard.

If you can go after three years, you go. You lose all of your leverage when you play that fourth year.

Had not thought about it like that...
