Title: Opelika Marriott
Post by: Townhallsavoy on February 16, 2009, 01:57:03 PM
I'm thinking of taking the wife there the first weekend of our Spring Break (March13).  Has anyone ever stayed there before?  Is it nice?

We get an RSA discount, so our room will only be $70 for the night.  I can't wait to get back to AU for a few days.

Never been there, but try the Travel Lodge.

Yeah.  Been there several times for conferences.

It's nice enough, but unless your wife is a golfer there isn't much for her to do -- unless you scarf out the cost of a spa package or something.

The Grand in Fairhope is a better deal (assuming the RSA discount applies there).  It has the spa, but there are also walking trails, you can rent kayaks or paddle boats, the pool (if it's warm enough) is awesome and it's a beautiful and historic location.

If The Grand is a 9 -- and it is, particularly if you can stay in one of the suites -- then the Opelika Marriott is about a six or seven.  Nothing spectacular or amazing.

We're teachers.  No money.

We've got about $120 to blow for Spring Break.  70 bucks for the hotel, 30 for Mike and Ed's, 20 for gas.

She hasn't been back to AU since May.  I figured it'd be nice to hit up Chewacala and some old stomping grounds for a day or two.

By the way, it's the hotel on the golf course.  It looks nice.

I had a feeling wine coolers would be involved.

Ah, understandable.  I am broke and I was just being an ass.  Go to the SupperClub.

I don't know if the roommate will be there or not.  Depending on the wife, I could be the "coed" if you get the drift...

Chewacla and a tent would be fun. And this time of year would be just right for keeping each other warm. Then you would have lots of money to play with.

This just might be the answer to my plight.

I just pitched the idea to my wife.  She laughed and said "too cold."

In March it will be on average 70 degrees.
