Thank god Brandon Marcello is there to let us know about the Titanic-esque disaster on the Plains.
Chris Laye has left the team!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, I never heard of him either.

We have Tight Ends on the roster? Who knew?

You had to look up his position, didn't you?
I know I had to.
-
My favorite part of his article (that you made me go find by the way) was this line:
"The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Laye was rated one of the nation's top 50 tight ends in the country by 247Sports and Scout.com."
NOT ONE OF THE TOP 50 TIGHT ENDS! Oh noes!
Good luck to the kid. I hope he becomes a star at Jacksonville State.

It was in the story.
And I was led to believe all our TEs were either in max prison for robbery or Cam shot them in the knees during a drug deal last summer. State media does a lotto keep us informed, after all.

I'm done linking that e-rag of a site.

The kid had no business signing with a team that doesn't utilize his position as a receiver. The stat's bear that out.

And here I was unaware that Stats even HAD a bear.

Auburn TE's have no stats and bears are dangerous animals.

Why? Do you want him to basically live in obscurity for 4 years and be an "Auburn man" and have zero chance at a future in football beyond his time in AU? The fact is that for whatever reason, Malzahn has made the TE position obsolete. I think it's ridiculous and something that's very wrong with the direction he's been taking this offense. But if the kid was considered one of the better TE's in the nation coming out...and has been relegated to people wondering who the hell he is when it's announced he's leaving....can you blame him?
Maybe the kid wasn't given the opportunities he was promised.

Every time we sign a TE, I wonder the same thing!

Lutz holds the TE record for TD's at AU. He was getting 2-3 catches every game in his prime. And by prime, I mean when he wasn't a true freshman or injured. And it seemed all of his catches were big, given the circumstances. But since 2011, the TE position has pretty much been eliminated. It's Tight End by name only. You don't have to go Gonzales or Gronkowski with your TE, but he needs to be an option a D has to be aware of. Not just another blocking back.

Williams could have done for a TE but this offense has no short game beyond wide receiver screens and an occasional flare to a back. That's why we stay pissed over the wasted calls for which the other team is prepared. Then you have a QB having to throw a medium/deep route to an iffy-handed receiver.
Punt.

Stop sugarcoating this loss guys. I mean, first we lose a few off field coarches and now a top 50 TE? This program is in shambles!
I swear to all that is Holy if Joe the pizza cart guy leaves, I will stop supporting Auburn football altogether!

You say this, but really, when did we use the TE for short routes?
They were usually throwbacks or the little wheel route up the sideline. A true 10 and sit route is NEVER employed. I may remember a couple os seam routes. But the TE is not utilized much at all in this offense.
That is why it is lunacy for a TE to choose AU.

Javierre Mitchell quitting football.
Says something about the underclassmen if a senior is willing to forego his last season.

Not always. At some point you realize you didn't develope like you thought and the grind gets in the way of finishing your degree. If the school still pays for you to finish, then get a degree.
I'm not sure people realize the work that goes into playing college ball. I admire the walk-ones that stick it out 4 years. I didn't. The mental grind, coupled with bills was too much. If Javier's heart is not in it, that opens up a spot for somebody else.

I saw where it was reported that Dinson (DB) would miss practice. I thought he was a WR?
