Flipping channels tonight and there's 3-4 college games on. I really love this time of year. Auburn basketball has sucked for....ever. Looks like Mr. Pearl may be putting the fun back in AU basketball. Still may take a year or so to get it where he wants it but I think this year is going to be worth watching. Should have the talent to make it much more interesting to watch this program. Tomorrow is Colorado at a weird 2:00 P.M. starting time. The Buffs beat that ass by 31 last year so obviously, the work is cut out for our guys. But it's a totally different team. We'll see.
#6 Virginia just got a Tonya Harding to the knee by George Washington. The SEC looks pretty skippy in the first couple of games. Most major programs holding serve early. Of course, my DOOKIES will win another national championship. (Bring the Coach Rat Face smack...NOW!!) Throw out yer odd observations.....yer pree-dick-shunz...yer inside scoop.
BTW...for years, I have loved finding a late Saturday night game between...Colorado State and Nevada. 20 degrees outside....snow on the ground and the fans in a 5,000-6,000 seat gym bundled up. Same as watching Michigan State and Northwestern in football with snow flurries, ice and snow on the ground and fog coming out with every breath by the players.

And in a high pitched squeak in the locker room, Bama's coach said, "What the fuck was that?"

Meanwhile, the AU/Colorado game is perty good. Good guys up 29-24 midway thru the 1st half. AU has 7 3-ptrs but with 6 turnovers. Canty going off.

Damn, AU plays some damn good D. 38-28 now.
Two notable players not in the line-up, New Williams and Purifoy.

Team actually played pretty good. When the rest of the guys are back contributing, I'm telling this is gonna be a damn fun team to watch.
-
Okay...yeeeaaah....my Duke prediction...not so much. Handled pretty good by Cal's Cats. Lost by 11. Oh well, they've got a good mix of young talent and experienced guys. Should be fun to watch regardless whether or not they have the guns to win it all.
Saw a bit of FSU playing Jacksonville. The Noles have 3 guys that go 7'4"...7'3"...7'1". Damn!!!
Kansas and Michigan State cranking up after the Duke/UK game. Good stuff.

They fell apart after the bullshit technical on Spencer for "delay of game." Then the refs called fouls on our guys if they got near the opposing players for about 5 minutes. Our 3 point lead became a 12 point deficit in a fucking hurry.

Yeah, the team had 6 fouls right off the bat. It's tough to play against 5 and the refs.

Colorado was a shit ton better at hitting their shots from the stripe. We have to get better at that.
The positive: that was a good team. A good team that beat our guys by 30+ last year. We lead them most of this one. Thats good. We just need to hit FTs and finish.
-
I haven't looked at percentages, but when is the last time we had a team that shot free throws more gooder? Seems like that's always an issue. Along with lack of any talent.
I am pumped about where this thing is going under Pearl. Can't wait to get our full compliment of players on the floor.

Which should be in enough time for all to have some game play before the conference stretch. I'm stoked too. Auburn has several guys that use to we would only see on the traditional bball powerhouses.

Don't know all the stories but one hasn't been cleared akeydimically and another, I believe was suspended for violating some summer league play rule or some such as that. Nothing serious and from what I've read, they expect them back soon. Amarite? Amarong? Anyone?

Bryce Brown was suspended for one game for playing in too many summer league games. I don't think Purifoy has been cleared yet by the enceeayays, but The Bruce is appealing that. Based on his track record with the governing body, I expect that to clear him soon.

The positive...
Would also add, the student section was packed for a 2pm on a Tuesday. You could feel the energy the crowd brought.

Miami wins the Puerto Rico Invitational beating two top 25 teams, Utah and Butler, with relative ease. Like I said, watch out for this team before it's all said and done. Pre-season #1, North Carolina, got ambushed by Northern Iowa. To be fair, UNC has been without what is in my opinion, one of the best players in the game, Marcus Paige. Dude should have graduated anyway in 1997.
Duke edged Georgetown today by 2. Always a quality win if you beat G'town.
Auburn is off til Friday. Maybe they can get the missing pieces back by then. The next 4 games are winnable on paper, based on name recognition. Have no idea what teams like Northwestern State or Middle Tenn or Mercer have this year. But you have to be able take most of those games if your program really is on the way up. Then it gets a little dicey with teams like, Xavier, New Mexico, possibly BYU and/or Oklahoma on the slate before starting SEC play.
-
SEC goes 1-1 against ACC foes last night. LSU was handled by teh Wolfpack while Vandy destroyed the Demon Deaconz. The Dores are 5-0 and look damn good. Several times last year, they were playing 4 or 5 true freshmen at the same time. Now those same guys have a year under their belt playing together. Heard more than one "expert" talk about them as a potential Final 4 playa.

You jinxed them.
And Auburn looked damn good last night scoring 119. When they get hot, they can put up some points. Last night they almost tied a school record with 17 3's and they scored 71 in the second half.

They looked slow and sloppy in the first half. Turnovers galore. A different team came out in the 2nd and they looked like the Harlem globetrotters.

Big lead over Coastal Carolina turns into 3 point win.
-
Auburn sounded sloppy in the 1st half again, but like jmar said got up to an 18 pt lead.......before letting it slip away and pulling it out at the very end. Cliff had his boys playing good though. They literally knocking down 3s with their eyes closed....literally.

If ya' like the round hoops action, the last couple of nights have been stellar with the ACC/Big 10 Challenge. Great matchups like Michigan State vs. Louisville, Indiana vs. Duke, Wisconsin vs. Syracuse etc. Four games went into overtime. You know I gotta' comment on my Dookies. Ripped the Hoosiers pretty good at Cameron. Team is fun to watch with a lot of athletic guys. Still can't see them going too far without any real inside presence. If they're not shooting it well, they're going to lose their share of games.
Big 10 won the challenge for about the 7th year in a row. 8-6

Doesn't get any easier tonight when Mercer comes to Auburn. Da' Bears are 8-1 and play some serious defense. This would be a quality win if we can pick it up.
-
Nice win by the Tigers!
-
Nice win by the Tigers!
Yep. Mercer is a solid club and came in 8-1. A couple of observations.
Positive. This ain't yer daddy's Auburn Tigers. No, not a Final 4 club. Making the NCAA's looks doable. Actual talent. Some guys that can shoot. Got some size. Some quickness. Some swagger. Bowers is seriously slimmed down, as Wes said. Canty is a playa. Tyler Harris is a solid 6'10" player who has a good all around game. If this Purifoy kid can make it in, they can make some noise. Really nice to see.
Short term negative. Down the stretch when AU had a 3-4 point lead, they reverted back to last year and years past. Horrible free throw shooting. Throwing the ball away. Bad shots. Played good defense, which is what saved them. Then Canty hit a long range, contested 3 that opened the flood gates in the final minute. They looked out of control. When you see elite teams in the last stages of the game, they say, "We're going to run this and it's up to you to do something about it. You foul us...we sink free throws. But we're not doing stupid shit."
Auburn does stupid shit. Needs correcting. Zero excuse for shooting free throws badly. Teach it. Practice it. Takes no effort. This team has a chance to do some damn good things. There's more talent than we've had since Cliff Ellis left. By far. They know how to score points but they need to understand what it takes to close games out. They'll have that chance right away.
-
Very obvious in last night's game that we have more talent that we've had in a long time, as Snags pointed out.
Cinnamon's buns are 30 lbs lighter, that Canty kid (the guard #1--kid from Brooklyn) seems to have an attitude at times but damn! He can ball. And he appeared to play through some pain, if he wasn't acting a bit. Still, he won the game in the end.
We mostly played team ball. I really was impressed with how we hung tight against what appears to be another very good Mercer team. And we didn't fold in the end. That appears to be the difference between this year and last so far. We have more confidence and we are just better.
Too early to say tourney team. We have to rebound better for sure. And, the 3's and ft's weren't falling like they need to. But the potential is def there. That was a fun game to watch.

No doubt. When Bowers and Harris both went 1 for 2 at the line and we had a couple of trips down the court with a turnover and weak shot, I was face palming and thinking here we go again. Then Canty said, "Not so fast my friend". When he hit that 3, it was over.

Last year, Troy decided to start playing a game in Dothan every year. Good thing to promote the program and the school. Took mini Snags to the game last night to see them play Division II Paine College out of Augusta. Not exactly Kansas vs. UCLA but a pretty entertaining way to spend a Thursday night. Got court side seats. Paine has a guy who averages 27 a game and he was fun to watch. About 6'4" and silky smooth shot. I really wanted to see Wesley Person and he did not disappoint. Scored 28 with 23 of those coming in the first half. He cooled off in the second half but he was on fire in the first.
Game was tight and Paine tied them up with about 2:00 to go but Troy pulled away late. Not a lot to either of these teams. No real size at all for Troy. A couple of 6'7" guys inside. Person is not a point guard. Handles the ball well but they have him where he needs to be at shooting guard. He would have made a nice addition to the Tiggers and given us a serious 3 point threat but our former coach was a raging dumbass. Anywho...like I said, worse ways to spend a Thursday night than taking the boy to a college basketball game.

Auburn down by 9 at the half to Xavier. Tigers looked like poop to start.

After getting schlonged by Xavier, the Tiggers take to the hardwood again today out in Hawaii. They face New Mexico (7-3) at 1:30.

New Mexico has beaten Northern Iowa but also lost to Rice. Should be an interesting game that the Orange Pearls have a chance to win.

Tigers v. the Fighting Nerds of Harvard at 3:30pm today on ESPNU.
The last couple of years, I would have said we had zero chance of beating them. They've had some damn good teams in recent years. I google chromed them and this year, they're 4-6 coming into today's game. Pretty stout schedule so far and they've hung with some good teams like Kansas, but apparently they're not as strong this year. Still, it would be a good win if the Non-Nerds can pick it up.
-
I think we beat them with our smarts. Strategy will befuddle them. Bunch of liberal queers.
-
That Troy team I went to see last week took Ole Miss to overtime last night, losing 83-80. Like I said, Troy is not very big but they matched OM in rebounds at 40 apiece. Don't know who the Fighting Black Bear Ackbars have played but they're 10-2 so they have to at least be pretty decent.
-
Auburn got fucking drilled by the 4-6 Nerds. 51 points?
I'ma be honest. I was hoping this bunch would be far more competitive than they've shown so far. I can handle a close loss to a good Colorado squad. They should never lose to Middle Tennessee State then get skull fucked 2 out of the next 3 games.
-

Agreed. Hard to beat anyone when you shoot 7-17 at the FREE throw line and your leading scorer goes 1-15 from the floor.
-
Where is New Williams? This is getting old quick!
-
Drilled by Hawaii.
There was a point about 9:00 to go in the second half. Auburn up by 8-9. It was a horror story from that point on. Ridiculous calls against AU but more importantly, putrid basketball by our guys. Kareem Canty is a talent. He really is. But when your offense consists of 10 straight times down the court with 4 guys standing still and Canty going...cross over...between the legs...between the legs...between the legs....between the legs...shake and bake...cross over...pull up....launch 3 pointer from 30 feet...
You suck. That's coaching. Exactly why he went 1-15 against Harvard. Sorry, but Pearl has to do a better job than that. When you have zero movement and continuously let one guy be your entire offense going one-on-one every time down court.....
They're a legit 6-5. No fluke. This team isn't very good.
-
Not very good right now. They still have way more talent than they've had since the days of Cliff. They can still gel and get some momentum. Pearl has won and won big everywhere he's been. Gotta' keep the faith he'll get it turned around here.

1-0 in the SEC. 83-77 win over Tennessee. Bryce Brown and Canty combine for 40 while Tyler Harris goes for 19 and 13. I'll take it.

Good win, but misleading. We could have easily lost that one.

While I agree, the offensive boards Tenn was getting was as much as an anomaly as the 3 point misses they had. Take away that unusual amount of Offensive Boards, and the game is more of a route. But Tenn could also say the same about the missed 3 pointers. Wash in the end I guess....

Anyone going to the game tonight? 6 pm vs #20 South Carolenny. I will be on the front row of the SEC Network seat in my den. Would love to go. Haven't been to a game since Pearl has been to Auburn, which is very disappointing for me to say.
Hopefully, we make a good showing. Can't say that I'm expecting an upset but it would be a huge win.

Hopefully, we make a good showing. Can't say that I'm expecting an upset but it would be a huge win.
Are YOU? Can I get an autograph at the VIP Bathroom?

Don't see why you'd want to leave the town in which the game is being played and drive 4 hours to watch it in my VIP den but sure. Come on.
I must say that I feel a little uneasy about us going to the bathroom at the same time but I guess it's o.k. Only have a one seater.
It's not like the old JH troughs where you used to be able to get a good gander at another man's....I mean, just come on. I'll be here.

Watched the Kansas/Oklahoma game last night. That was a great game. Kansas wins in 3 OTs. Anybody else catch any of it?

Fuck's sake, we're sloppy tonight. 15 first-half turnovers. Our guys look hungover...or drunk...or both.

Watched most of the second half. It basically disintegrated into Canty coming down and going one-on-one 90% of the time. He's such a talent but if your entire offense is a clear out for Canty to shoot whenever and wherever he pleases, then you get a loss like this.
But I guess the mentality is who the hell else do you go to with several guys sidelined? Tyler Harris is a nice player. Long with decent skills and moves well without the ball. As long as it's Canty running the entire show, he just needs to penetrate more and find Harris in open space. Did it a few times with success and Harris wound up with 20+.
Semenal Bowers? Don't know what he did in the first half but jeebus, son. You don't have to take off like a bull in a china shop every time you get a rebound. Find a guard and go play your position.
Don't know what the injury situation is as far as guys returning, but I still hold out hope that this club can make some noise with a full compliment of players.
-
They need a healthy Dunans and Williams to go along with a transcripted Purifoy to make real noise this season I'm afraid.

Plus, a healthy ShamFlam Musahadein would really take some ball handling duties off these guys. If Canty was left to spot up more and take more shots in rhythm as opposed to creating one-on-one every trip down, he'd be off the charts.

I'm not a basketball expert like I am in football. But I can tell we're getting closer to legit SEC contenders.
SC is a better team but we play better in a few areas and we had a good chance.
Simply equaling them at the FT line would be a good start.

We have, and will continue to lose games at the stripe. Simply put.

The day that Cinnamon Bunzz finally realizes that he's not a point guard may just be the day this team turns the corner.

^^^This.
You can leave half of your team at home, shoot poorly from the field and at the line, but if you cross midcourt and just throw the fucker in the stands you aren't even making the other team work for anything. Turned the mfer off at halftime...too painful to watch.
-
So, AU tanks again.....against what is considered an inferior team. AUsome!

When I realized they might be on, I flipped over to it. They were down 71-48. That 3 seconds was all I could stomach.

Disagree, unless you think Lawson's injury was the sole reason the FB team sucked.
Pearl is playing without a point guard. Canty either can't or won't run an offense. Everyone else is a big forward and they all think they have a green light to shoot (hell, they might since there isn't a point guard). The injury bug has decimated the (true) perimeter players.

Truth. I'm thinking more of my expectations on the season. My high hopes are slowly fading away.

Suffered through the entire Vanderbilt game from start to finish. Holy fuck, this team is a train wreck right now. Will someone please shoot Bowers in the temple? Have no words. This was Tony Barbee bad. And the problem is there's 10X the talent Barbee put on the floor. We can rationalize about injuries etc. But there's no excuse for how damn bad this team looks.

Agree that Bruce needs to be completely redesigning the offense to account for the available personnel instead of trying to fit the personnel into the scheme.

The most frustrating problem I see, and have been noticing for weeks, is they have no offense. They literally are not running any type of offensive sets. If Canty doesn't bring it down and go one-on-one, they make at most 3 passes and someone then goes one-on-one themselves. Occasionally, Canty will drive and dish but that's about as innovative as they get.
It's like they're just walking on the floor. "We got next".
And Bowers..... :charles:

If you are not, do you WANT to? I have a contact with 2 tix below face value if anyone is interested. Just let me know. They may be gone soon.

I think we need some taller players and a true point guard. But if we ever get into a 1 on 1 tourney, Canty will do great.

I don't want to get too high or too low here. Make no mistake, this was a great win. Anytime you can beat a John Calipari coached UK team it's a big freakin' deal. Kudos to Pearl and a gutsy bunch that pulled off a big time upset.
Question. When are all these injured players going to get their asses back on the floor? Shim Sham Squaheen needs to suck it the fuck up and start contributing again. Old Williams? What's the problem? Somebody freakin' grade Purify's damn ACT test and let's get him out there. T.J. Noneans? Are you loving the bench? Football, I get. Basketball and having this many guys out? Put on your big girl panties you bunch of petunias. Let's feed off this win and stop being a joke.

** Auburn guard Tahj Shamsid-Deen is out for the year with a shoulder injury. He has loose shoulders. How well Dr. Andrews is able to tighten shoulder up will determine if he can play again.
** TJ Dunans required a scope to clean up knee injury. Had a lot of bleeding. MCL and ACL are solid but did a lot of damage to tissue and artery. Progressing with rehab but return date is pushed back to later in the season and may not be able to return.
"Purify" decided to retake the ACT. Don't know if was the ACT folks or Auburn Compliance. Heard through the grapevine that it was our Compliance office. He will probably red shirt.
Have no clue why Williams hasn't made the impact he was thought to have made.
Not as easy as getting off their asses and sucking it up. We are going to strugle this year.

When I first saw Canty go down and drop the F bomb on live TV, I thought he was just showboating, as he seems to do sometimes. Then I saw his ankle in the replay. Ouchey!
Got to hand it to him for not only hitting (I blv) one of his free throws but gutting it out till the end.
He pisses me off throwing up some of his shots but if he can stay in control, he's a damn good baller.
Regarding the injury complaints, can we not just enjoy one of the biggest AU basketball wins in like 10 years? Please? Can we just get along?

A quick look at the standings a little more than half way through, has a lot of the usual suspects at the top. North Carolina, Kansas, Villanova etc. Oklahomo is sitting atop both the AP and Corch's Poll. Texas A&M has quietly put together a 15-2 slate and is finally in the top 10. USCe is 16-1 but I think they're around 18th. UK now has 4 losses and is in the lower end of the top 25. That's about it for the SEC.
As for the Tiggers, represented by the 9-time, 9-time, 9-time, National Championship mascot, a win over the unwashed Tuesday in Pearl's Palace would just be the titz. Would really help out heading into 2 tough road games against Florida and Ole Miss. Any updates on Canty's ankle?

Any updates on Canty's ankle?
Ollie Williams says it's gon hurt!

Just watched #19 Iowa State beat #1 Oklahomo. Let me just say, I wouldn't want us to face either of those clubs. That was a damn good college game to watch. Both clubs with multiple guys who could put it in the hole and weren't afraid to whip it out and let it fly. Wouldn't be surprised to see either of these teams in the Final 4.
But...Ummm...my Dukies probably won't sniff of the Final 4...or 8...or 16...or.... 3rd loss in a row. Won't be ranked in the next poll.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/eye-on-college-basketball/25453866/court-storm-after-kentucky-win-kick-six-net-auburn-100k-fine-from-sec
The SEC has fined Auburn for allowing its fans to storm the court after the 75-70 win against Kentucky on Saturday.
The celebration made for a great visual in one of Bruce Pearl's biggest wins since taking over the basketball program in 2014, but it also violated the league's access to competition area policy.
"The Conference has unanimously approved a policy requiring fines be applied when spectators enter the playing court after a game," SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said in an official statement. "While understanding the enthusiasm following an exciting victory, fans need to remain in the stands and avoid the safety concerns associated with rushing on to the playing floor. We want to have exciting experiences around SEC games, but also want to maintain a safe environment for student-athletes, coaches, spectators and officials."
Auburn has now violated the rule twice since it went into effect in 2004. The first violation came after Auburn beat Alabama in the 2013 Iron Bowl with the epic "Kick Six." Since Auburn is a repeat violator, the school must pay a $100,000 fine.
If Auburn gets hit with another violation for a court storm or rushing the field, the fine from the SEC increases to $250,000.
First of all, fuck the SEC for this. I fail to see the point of being the fun police on this. No one's getting hurt, that's ridiculous. I thought college athletics was about the students. If the students can't go on the court and celebrate a huge win with their fellow classmates, what the fuck are we doing here?
Secondly, fuck the SEC for this. $100,000?? I know I'm bad at maths but that's like $500 per kid that stormed the court, at least.
Third, fuck the SEC for this. How did Auburn "allow" their students to storm the court? What are they supposed to do, hire armed guards to pick kids off as they start to make a move?
-
The funniest thing to me was watching one of the kids that stormed the court turn and put his mug right in the camera screaming, "We're number 1".
No...we're not. We're 8-8. But you keep that youthful enthusiasm flowing there, Sunshine.

Boom. Tigers follow up the win against the Kats with a 6 point home victory against Squeaky Johnson and the Unwashed. Needed this because the next 3 are brutal. Florida and Ole Miss on the road and then Oklahoma State, who just drilled Kansas. Great win tonight. Guess we'll see if they have strapped on the big girl panties. Give me a win out of those 3 and I'll be happy.

Don't know much about basketball despite once coaching it.
I do know, however, that every time Cinnamon Blousers touched the ball I closed my eyes. He scored a lot of points and grabbed a bunch of rebounds but he also looked completely out of control at times. There was one stretch where AU was up by seven or eight, on the verge of putting the game away and he lobbed up absurd three-pointers on two or three successive trips which allowed them to crawl right back in the game.
Not a great team, lacking a little discipline, but that was fun to watch.

No...we're not.

We won, so I shouldn't care, but did anyone else want to rip Tom Hart's fucking throat out?
This guy was like a goddamn Finebaum caller with his ridiculous meltdown over what he thought was a Canty travel, that was correctly called a clear foul.
"I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY REVERSED THE CALL!!! THE REF THREE FEET AWAY FROM THE ACTION MADE THE RIGHT CALL AND THEN IT GOT OVERTURNED BY THE ONE 45 FEET AWAY!!! I've never seen anything like this in my life!!! This is terrible!!! We'll never know how this one woulda turned out!!!"
I don't know how to show the video, but this person on Twitter played it in slow motion. How the fuck is that not crystal clear that the ONLY reason his pivot foot moved was because the Bammer jerked him back by his shoulder. Let alone, he got the pass off before his pivot foot was lifted anyway.
We won, and I'm glad. But fuck this guy for shitting all over the win. He didn't stop from that point until literally after the game was over. Fuck that guy. I want him fired.

Our local Bammer sports talk guy actually mentioned that very thing and he complained about the "reversal". But to his credit, he followed that by saying the very next trip down the floor, Horace Spencer got a rebound and was slung to the ground by Norris, I think. Anyway, he was harping on how bad the refs were for both sides. I think it was 53 fouls called in a 40 minute game. You do the math.

Pretty fuckin' clear cut that it was a foul AND even if it wasn't, not travelling.

It was one of the worst officiated games ever. But I've always said, if the officials are shitty. At least let them be shitty for both teams. From that standpoint...success!

If that was travelling, then Obamahasteaks should have been called at least 11 times himself.

Why is he allowed to come out on the court to play defense? There were a couple of times he was so far out on the court he was the closest person to Canty. He was out on the logo more than once.

Now, now...Pearl looked as if he was measuring a ref for a suit the entire game.
And as much as I like Sonny Smith, he meekly sat by and allowed Bobby Knight to just take over the floor with a whistle way back in 1987, when we probably had our most talented roster (top to bottom) ever. Never seen a HC with the ability to orchestrate such control over the officiating since Knight's time at IU. The second half of that one-sided travesty is etched on jmar's tiny brain.

Aaaannnd the Tigers lose by THIRTY TWO in Gainseville. Bowers is still allowed to go helter fucking skelter every single time he touches the ball and Canty continues to throw up more garbage then awesome.
The lack of discipline and the obvious observation that Pearl is just rolling out the ball like it's gym class and saying "Do whatever the hell you want" is starting to get old. I watched the entire game. There's no sugar coating or rationalizing that shit. That was embarrassing. That was street ball against a decent, well coached team. Horrible. 32 point loss.
-
Like said before, this team is bipolar

All 2 of em!
1. Shoot 40 threes per game
2. Have Cinnabon Blowers either: shoot a 40 foot 3 off balance like he's the second coming of Reggie Miller or drive the lane like a drunk blind ox

Watched about half of the LSU-UGA game last night.
Wanted to see the Simmons kid who's all over ESPN.
What is the big deal? I didn't see anything overly impressive and yet today they're jerking him off on ESPN again. He's okay, but not dominant at all.

I know. You'd think he was Danny Ferry or something.

And the pop-collared douches of OM hand us another lopsided loss.
Would like to see some adaptation on the offensive side of the ball. They have at least four games under their belt with the M.A.S.H.-unit starting lineup. These guys should be improving together with the reps they are presumably getting practicing our "offense." Whatever that may be.

The reality is they're only missing one real contributor, and that's Dunans. New Williams is back playing. Flim Flam Hadeen played in the first 5 games but he only averaged 11 minutes a game and less than 2 assists.
The other night against Florida, their guard was dribbling as he came across the top of the key. A low post guy broke out to the wing and the guard hit him on a give and go. The guard sprinted down the lane but the AU defender went with him. Problem was, they ran another cutter who rubbed off a pick right behind the guard and the guy on the wing hit him for an uncontested layup.
It's called a set play. It's called an offense.
A few nights later, Vanderbilt is playing UF. I watched the guard for Vandy come down court and hit a guy who popped out towards the time line. The guard went down the lane and came out of the low post to the wing while the low post man ran to the foul line. A couple of passes made with nothing open so they reversed the ball and ran something similar on the left side until one man saw an opening, drove the lane and dished to a low post man for an 8 foot jumper.
It's called a motion offense with all 5 guys working in unison to get an open look.
Auburn does none of that. Ever! Well, we don't match up inside. Yeah, I've heard that one more times than I can count.
Bowers 6'7" and built like a tank
Tyler Harris 6'10"
Horace Spencer 6'9"
Jordon Granger 6'8"
TJ Lang 6'7"
And we can't run a play to isolate any of these guys inside? We can't run a simple motion offense to try and free some guys up? What's the problem? Bruce Pearl does have an offensive plan...right? Are several of our guys retarded? There's a reason why he allows Canty to play fucking street ball every time he has the ball, right? What am I missing while I watch 4 guys stand there motionless while he cross-over, between the legs dribbles and shoots from 40 with 2 guys in his face? There's a method to the madness. Tell me there is.
Tell me how it is that Pearl knows for a fact that if Semen Showers gets 10 defensive rebounds, that 8 of those "possessions" will end badly with either a horrible wild shot or Bowers throwing it to the other team...that he allows it to continue.
Look, despite the fact that little used Slim Slam and Dunans are on the bench, there's still more talent and size on the floor than we've had in years. Am I the only guy on earth that's not really blown away by Bruce Pearl so far? I see good recruiting but the X's and O's are fucking horrible.

The hint for me that something was amiss is that one of our players (?) said that the Rifleman had drawn up a plan to stop somebody (UK maybe) in a contest we actually won. And everyone knows that Coach Person is a defensive mastermind.

That is, if they make the tournament this year.

This shit is mind blowing. It simply could not have gone any worse than where it is right now. When we hired Pearl and after all the early indications of what he was doing with the program, if you had told me we would be in this position right now....
Using my massive insider penis, I'll say what I've heard from people who are actually in the program and/or associated with it. First, I'll repeat what I said earlier. Bowers can't leave fast enough. Loose cannon. Dumb as a brick. Uncoachable. Pearl signed him. He's got to ride it out with him. Canty. Very "angry" guy. Thought he was going to be the titz but when the losing started after the Bama game, he shut it down. Stopped taking direction. In the LSU game last week, he ignored Pearl and refused to listen to or look at him. Pearl finally sat him. He showed up to practice the following Thursday with his ass firmly planted on his shoulders and wound up getting into it with an assistant coach. Pearl sent him packing. That was the end of Canty.
I'm concerned about every aspect of this program. The players Pearl is recruiting are either...see above...or not ready for prime time...see Horace Spencer. On top of that, the thing I've been harping on all season hasn't changed one bit. They have zero offensive philosophy. They make no attempt to even remotely try to run anything that resembles an offense. Injuries or not, this season has been one big one-on-three with 4 guys standing around.
But, it's Auburn basketball. Is anyone really even noticing what a train wreck this has been? Has anyone realized where we are right now may be worse than any point in the Lebo/Barbee eras? So, we play out the string in 2016 and hope we don't set any records in futility, like the 45 we scored Tuesday night.
Next season. Canty gone. Bowers gone. Granger gone. Hamsid Squadeen probably done. Tyler Harris gone. So Pearl starts with TJ Lang, Bryce Brown, Horace Spencer, Dunans, New Williams, Purifoy. Pretty much a clean slate. A little talent to build on. Who's he got coming? Get me moist people. Give me something. I need it.

With the exception of Canty being gone next year, it's not all that bad.
Auburn has 4 guys committed, which 3 are pretty highly rated.
Heron is a 5* guard, who had about 30 offers from programs like Maryland, UCLA and Kansas. He should be able to come in and play next year. He is a great scorer.
Harper is a 4* PG, who had several offers. I have seen some film from this kid and he distributes the ball well. He is small though 5'9. But is pretty quick and can run the point.
McLemore is a 3* 6'7" forward that had a ton of offers too. I don't know much about this guy though.
So there is some help coming in, but were we are hurting is point guard. BP needs to hit the JUCO circuit and find a PG for next year STAT or we are going to be in the same predicament next year.

^^This, I have said it before. We get rid of Bowers, get rid of Canty, (both are cancers and selfish) get Dunnans back healthy, hopefully New Williams knees heal up in the off season so he can go at 100%, with Purifoy, Brown, Lang, Spencer, Reed, Heron, Harper and McLemore and we have a little gas to cook with.
-

Pearl has to get the selfish fuckers to play together. So far he's failing.

He failed with Canty if you want to call kicking his ass off the team failing. Bowers is going to act like a bull in a china shop. Proved it last year, but Bruce did get him to calm down long enough to make it to the semifinals in the SEC.
Seriously? Are you people bitching about Pearl during year number two? Do you not remember what shitty years Barbee was and what shit tier talent he left us with? So Bruce took a chance with Canty and it didn't work out once he didn't have to play behind Mason and Harrell. Sometimes players wind up being shit heads for whatever reason. He got rid of him though. We have 4 seniors and 2 are walkons. One is Bowers and the other is a bench rider left from the Barbee years. We have injuries out the ass and have one difference maker that couldn't get his ACT shit cleared in time. Give the guy a break.
He had to take what he could get to fill holes when he got here (Bowers, Canty, etc). The young guys have been pretty good so far so we just need to tough it out and get a couple of classes enrolled. Lets start questioning his coaching ability in year 3.

This.
I will go on record to say that I would give Pearl a lifetime contract. Because if he can't win, then no one will be able to. And at least he is a good ambassador, promoter and can sell tickets...

Put me on record too. I like Pearl, he's perfect for Auburn Basketball but he's not the actual "coach" we thought he was.
Auburn needs to keep him forever because he can steal talent and promotes the game. And if that talent wants to play together (already injured or on the mend) it's up to those players.
Shamsid-Deen is the player that we miss the most if for nothing more than knowing his role. He played hard on both ends, especially defense giving up his slight body after balls which is why he's not available. Danjel Purifoy is a team player that works hard when he's on the floor and can eat some minutes. He knows his role as well.
We have some size but it doesn't perform because it doesn't have a chance with Bowers on the floor. So now we are back to square one without legitimate scorer(s) to lessen the number of touches he gets. And Bower's wants to dunk or bomb to the detriment of the team.
Game over.
-
If they even whispered about getting rid of Pearl now, it would definitely be the most stupidest decision I have seen in AU athletics. And that's saying a bunch.
-

Exactly! It's hard to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. Pearl has had his work cut out for him with what he's had to work with. Better days are ahead for us if our incoming recruiting class holds firm.
-
It could also be true that Barbee could have similar results as Pearl did at Tennessee with like talent. Look at Tubby Smith from '08 to the present.

Watched almost the entire Iowa State/Baylor game last night. Couldn't stop watching despite Baylor's neon yellow threads. I think it ended like 100-91 in 1 OT. These two teams are so well coached and skilled, at least on offense anyway. Both complete teams inside and out. And yes, it made me weep for Auburn basketball. Even with all our guys healthy and not being assholes, we're light years away from that level.
I could see either of these teams making a run deep into the tourney. But then again, the Big 12 is F'n loaded. I believe Baylor's final 6 games include 5 against top 25 teams.

How do you know? Pearl hasn't had a full roster available since he has been here. Do you see the "talent" that is on the floor? It looks like a game at the YMCA. There is no one worth a shit that is playing for us. Bowers is the fucking point guard...BOWERS. If that doesn't tell you something, I don't know what does...

So Auburn went in to Arkansas, without it's leading scorer in Canty, without it's best player described by Pearl in Purifoy, with Bowers playing point, and without it's second best player that has played this year in Dunnans and won...
Yeah...Pearl needs to go.
I mean...this team has quit on Pearl.
Wait...Pearl just doesn't run any kind of offense.
But seriously, I am not saying this win is the end all be all, but some of you fuckers need to step off the fucking ledge...
I think if Auburn would have had a full year with Dean, Canty, Dunnans and Purifoy...who are all not playing right now...this team could have at the very least been in the NIT...

Nobody's on the ledge and unless I missed something, nobody wants Pearl gone or even on the hot/warm/semi-luke warm seat. I'm happy for the win. I'm glad any time AU gets a win in anything, including chess, debate team and tiddlywinks. I fourded the motion that Pearl be given a lifetime contract. So, there's that. But not giving Pearl a 100% pass and pointing out some pretty obvious flaws is far from standing on a ledge. It's not all injuries and shitty attitude.

I do believe it was jmar who called pearl a failure and accused of him of not actually being able to coach on the page before this one. I'm just the messenger.
-
I too would like to join the chorus of people saying I'd rather let Pearl drive the program into extinction than dump him for some desperation flash in the pan hire. I agree it can't be done better than what he's doing.
That said, it sucks that Bama hired Kevin Hart's twin brother and are kicking ass in the upper half of the SEC while we're neck & neck with Mizzou for 14/14.
It's not where we should be right now. It's disappointing. But it's also mostly off-the-court stuff that's beyond Pearl's control.
I'm apparently the minority that thinks Cinmeon leaving isn't a clear-cut positive for next year. I mean, we'll be fine I'm sure, provided we have a better-than-Auburn-is-used-to recruiting class this year. Bowers has recorded 11 double-doubles this year and 25 in his two years under Pearl. He's a bit of a bull in a China shop, but statistically, it works for him.

Anthony Grant way out recruited Lebo and Barbee. Johnson has way more talent to work with than Bruce.

I do believe it was jmar who called pearl a failure and accused of him of not actually being able to coach on the page before this one. I'm just the messenger.
Nope. Not even remotely true...and yet... one win does not a streak make.
WTH!
I say we let him capture us for a whopping lifetime contract and just skip all the buyout nonsense.
-
Yeah, I guess I would have noticed that if I ever read any of his posts. My bad. :poke:
You know saying someone is failing (when they are) still isn't the same as calling them a failure.

One win by this team is equivalent to 5 wins by any other.

All kidding aside, I think it's complete idiocy for Snaggs and jmar to be calling for Pearl's job at this stage.
There are times we can get on here and vent but that's just plain stupidity. Or, drinking and drug problems. Possibly both.

The Tigers hold on for a thrilling 84-81 win against the mutts from Athens.
-
Yes thrilling. How can I watch an AU basketball win....Aaaannnd want to punch every one of them in the throat. The don't-mess-with-karma in me wouldn't let me watch it. I kept flipping back to see the score. They stayed up big. I knew that if I watched, things would begin to go downhill quickly, so I stayed away.
Turned back to it and the good guys were up 8 with only 40 seconds left. Okay...I can comfortably watch them finish this off. Nope!!! In a span of 40 seconds of play, I saw Georgia hit 4 uncontested 3's, get fouled on a virtually uncontested drive to the basket and then Dunans inexplicably commits a totally needless and incredibly stupid foul in Georgia's backcourt while only up 4 with 13 seconds left. THEN...with 3.8 left and up 3, Georgia inbounds and sprints across half court. Literally while the guy is trying to launch a desperation 3...WE'RE FOULING HIM. The refs incorrectly called a foul on the floor, which ended the game....but...
My dad just called me and said he truly believes now that the majority of Pearl's players are retarded. I'm in the special needs camp myself.
-
This incoming class, should it hold together, is going to be the barometer in my opinion.
We are still dealing with a duct taped line up of guys who would have a tough time dressing out for any other D1 program. They might dress out, but they would never be required to remove their warm up suits.

This is where I may have to ever so slightly disagree. Granted, Harris was out tonight, which probably would have made things a good bit easier down the stretch had he played. But overall, I think this group of guys is quite a bit more talented than anything Lebo or Barbee ever put on the floor. It's still in my mind, a much higher quality group of players.
I think there's a great core of guys returning. I hate that Canty imploded. But I imagine he had his sights set on coming out regardless. One particular player could make a huge difference. Horace Spencer needs to figure it out. He was a human highlight film coming in. He's a human fouling machine who has been a non-factor this year. 6'10 and insanely athletic. The light needs to turn on for this guy and the entire fortunes of AU basketball could change.

Stop watching basketball.
In related news, with last night's win, Auburn surpassed last year's SEC win total. Three SEC games left. Bama's next. Leggo.

I need to. If I ever come into a game late and AU is up...and I start watching...we'll turn the ball over 12 times in a row and the other team will go off on a 23-2 run. I knew better than to watch that last 40 seconds.

If I told you before the year that:
> The top offensive threat would quit the team mid-season,
> A much-needed weapon would sit in NCAA limbo for the entire year,
> Injuries would take some of the best players out for long stretches of games, AND
> AU would beat Bama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas and Georgia at least once...
Wouldn't you have said what a fantastic job Bruce Pearl did?

Testify. This has been a screwy year...and we've still improved in conference play.

He's the one coach -- well him and the King of Softball -- with whom I truly hope Jacobs has some behind the scenes deal where if they leave for any reason (except death) before at least five to seven years are up that Stanley McClover gets a gym bag full of cash to come hunt them down and hurt them badly.

Oh stop with all the positivity and come out here on this ledge with me. There's plenty of room.
Seriously puts it in perspective. Next year should be vastly different and hopefully much better. Third year and just about every player with the exception of Lang, will be Pearl's guys. Healthy, eligible and full strength will be nice to see....for once at Auburn.

Yet, primarily two negative Nancy types on here continue to bitch. Claim they are "ALL IN" with Pearl but it's pretty obvious that they really aren't. They either don't understand basketball or are anti-Semitic. Probably some of both.
What is interesting is that we actually have played better post Canty. As great of a talent as he is, it seems to be addition by subtraction. I realize that we got Dunans back but still, we are playing with a better attitude.
Hope we continue to finish strong and build some momentum. A win in Tuscalooser would be really nice.

Both teams struggled, but (and I hate to be that guy) the fucking refs decided that game. Bullshit.

We won't make the tourney. They are pimping that bunch of crooks as a potential tourney team. If it was close we were not going to win.

Hit 60% of your free throws and you sweep the season series.

Gawt damn, AU basketball can be downright painful to watch. Tied 33-33 at half. Down 20 with 9:00 to go. Decided to go check out the X.

The wimmen beat #25 Mizzou today 47-45 in round 1 of the SECT.
They play Kentucky South Carolina tomorrow.

What bothers me about basketball.
I don't like Texas A&M, but they lead the SEC, have approximately the same record as Kentucky and beat the Mildcats head to head. The Faggies are predicted to be a five-seed. Kentucky is a one.
Why? Is the name enough?

from the dot I am a gay twerker that has no balls!!!! I also have no idea how to use the quote function to post stories, so I annoy the piss out of others. I like male genatalia in and around my mouth.. You know, I've been meaning to take in an Auburn basketball game. Hey wait, we're long overdue for an X gathering.
The Auburn men's basketball team is set to play in the 2016 Cancun Challenge next season along with Purdue, Texas Tech and Utah State, Triple Crown Sports announced Wednesday.
The Tigers, Boilermakes, Red Raiders and Aggies make up the "Riviera Division" of the Cancun Challenge and will play in Mexico Nov. 22-23. Four more schools, which will be announced later this spring, will be selected for the "Mayan Division." The Riviera Division teams will host the Mayan Division teams before all eight squads head to Cancun.
"We are very happy to announce the participation of four great teams for the 2016 Cancun Challenge. The event has had many great basketball programs in the past, and this year's field will continue the tradition," said tournament director Brent Amick in a release. "The uniqueness of the location and event setup makes this tournament a truly special experience for fans who want to follow their favorite team. It is a great way to enjoy the warm climate of the Riviera Maya combined with great basketball in a close-up, intimate setting."
Auburn played three games outside of the continental United States this season and finished 1-2 at the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu Dec. 22-25. The Tigers beat New Mexico before falling to Harvard and Hawaii Dec. 22-25.
Auburn (11-18, 5-13 SEC) travels to Mississippi State Saturday for the regular season finale before playing in the SEC Tournament next week in Nashville.
The Cancun Challenge is entering its ninth year and will be televised by CBS. For more information, visit CancunChallenge.net.

They play Kentucky South Carolina tomorrow.
The ladies fall to South Carolina 57-48 in round 2 of the SECT.
They end the regular season at 19-11 overall, 8-8 in the conference. We wait on the NCAA tourney selection.
-
The regular season comes to a merciful end with a 79-66 loss to Mississippi State.
Our final record is too shameful to post, and we play Tennessee in round 1 of the SECT on Wednesday.
-
Fucking cheating Tarheels.
-
I thought The Cancun Challenge was running through a bunch of co-eds during Spring Break without contracting STDs or offspring.
-
I'm calling it now. Auburn runs roughshod through the SEC Tournament this week and gets a 15 seed in the NCAAs.
Or they lose in the first round.
-
AU still has a basketball team?
-
I'm calling it now. Auburn runs roughshod through the SEC Tournament this week and gets a 15 seed in the NCAAs.
KT Harrell is not walking through that door.
-
I'm taking off early to pick up all the game supplies. Wings...beer...chips etc. Telling everybody to keep their distance from Snags unless they want to jump in with me and pull the Auburn Tigers through tonight. Although let's get real here. These early round games are usually snoozers. But even though it will be a cake walk tonight for our guys, it's always fun to watch Pearl's bunch do their thing.
-
Got em' right where we want em'. Down 19 at halftime. Coulda' shoulda' been 30+.
Mercifully, only 20 more minutes of Auburn basketball left.
-
We're down by 37 now, 87-50. One of the best things Jacobs could do in the offseason is bring a Sharman in to exorcise whatever demon is cursing Auburn basketball. There has to be an angry and vengeful indian buried somewhere on the grounds around Beard-Eaves and the new arena.
-
Did we win?
-
38 point loss. What adjectives can you use to describe it? And spare the excuses. Nobody loses by 38 points. The announcers showed a stat that it was the worst loss to an SEC opponent in over 5 years.
I know I can be negative Nancy but gawt damn. It was 18-4 when I turned it on and it just got progressively worse from there. 38 point loss??? I promise you it would have been 50 plus had they not emptied the benches and played skreet ball the last 4 minutes. Fuck this. Close the books on this season. Burn all records of it and start fresh this upcoming Fall. And please stop with the "Well, if you'd told me we would beat..." 11-20 overall. We lost 97-59 in an "Everything starts fresh...clean slate" tournament. It was Tennessee people. They were in the play in game because they were horrible too. And they beat us like we were Rihanna telling Chris Brown "No".
No fucking excuses going forward. No 5 year plan. No lifetime Pearl contracts. College basketball is a game where teams can change their fortunes entirely with the insertion of 2-3 new players. Pearl has a good (I use that term loosely) corp of players coming back with what is supposed to be a top 5 recruiting class coming in. Winning record. NIT at the absolute very least or burn this bitch down or quit wasting money and effort. 38 point losses make you a laughing stock.

Nailed it.

Thankfully, it has ended.

Bama fans pissed at NCAA snub.
Bama fans pissed that NIT gonna make them play UAB in the quarterfinals if the Blazers make it.
