Title: Announcing Tonight
Post by: WiregrassTiger on January 28, 2015, 09:57:52 AM
http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2015/01/decision_day_chidi_valentine-o.html (http://www.al.com/auburnfootball/index.ssf/2015/01/decision_day_chidi_valentine-o.html)
The time has come for Chidi Valentine-Okeke.

The four-star offensive tackle will announce his college football commitment during "Next Class 2015" on Fox Sports South tonight at 9 p.m. CT.

Valentine-Okeke has narrowed his choices down to Alabama, Auburn and LSU. He visited Tuscaloosa and Auburn last month and was in Baton Rouge last weekend.

The 6-foot-6, 305-pounder is ranked as the No. 5 offensive tackle in the country in the 247Sports Composite. Check out our staff predictions for his commitment and cast your vote in our poll below.

Wesley Sinor | Prediction: AUBURN

Auburn still needs to take an offensive tackle in the 2015 cycle and has had its sights set on Martez Ivey, the nation's top overall prospect. Ivey is undecided between Auburn and Florida, so I think the Tigers will gladly take Valentine-Okeke. If Ivey later decides he wants to sign with Auburn as well, it's likely the Tigers will take both.

Drew Champlin | Prediction: LSU

I don't really have a clue, and I know Alabama and Auburn would take him, so a fun curve ball would be to say LSU.

John Talty | Prediction: AUBURN

I could see Chidi going a number of different directions but he has seemingly been primarily considering Alabama and Auburn, and the Tide could be full after taking Isaiah Prince. I don't feel particularly confident but my informed gut says Auburn.

Not so fast....

That was supposed to be yesterday and he decided not to decide.  Apparently there was a snag at the dealership and his car wasn't delivered on time by the Crimson Cabal.  Was advised to wait until it was stored in the garage and lined up for new rims.  Plus Al-Betar is running out of chartreuse fabric and had to get a few more reams in to make the suits for all these recruits.

Yep.  Soon as I read "delayed," I heard the coming of the Lord.  He's going to Bama.  No doubt about it.

Also delayed after an in home from Bammer. Supposedly. Said he changed his mind. No I'm not joking at all. It's like soap opera level shit every year.

Also rumors though that he has been a big Auburn guy but he doesn't want to go to the same place as Ivey. I think I read some where that that is the reason he has been delaying his choice to go to Auburn.

Has he got a problem with Ivey or is he just worried about competing?  Anyway, since Patrick Miller declared, there's a huge void on the line and he should have a great shot.

Great shot at what, starting? He'd become the first player in NCAA to start, as a true freshman, at a D1 University without ever playing in High School. This upcoming year will be his second year to play the game. Chidi is the poster boy for the "project player" tag. The reason why he's considered a 3* or 4* prospect is strictly due to camps and measurables.

This is the dumbest thing I've read on this board.  You really believe he could come in and start as a true freshman?  I mean come on.

Holy shit you are dumb! What kind of logic is this? You think we suck so bad that a true freshman should just be able to come in and start no questions asked? God you are an idiot. And an idiot with no balls which makes it worse.

Yep. Agreed on the comments re: the idiot poster. But I would like to remind everyone about being encouragers instead of critics. As far as stupid ass idiotic comments and questions go, this idiot poster is at the top of his game and says by far the stupidest stuff on the Internet. A moron, indeed.

I don't care what you people think.  I know for a fact this guy could step in and play right now.  And I mean now!!!!  No Spring practice.  No Summer weight program.  No Fall camp.  He's just that good.

Well, despite the fact that this kid could start for the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl Sunday (He's just that good) he chose to play for LSU instead.

I don't think the coaches wanted this kid. I know I didn't want him. Unless he changes his mind, then maybe I'll consider.

I don't think so. Too soon to tell. In reality, we don't know that this kid had what they call a "committable offer" anyway. He may have been more of a plan b.

Good sign is that the Davis kid--4* out of Miami just parted ways with Urban after having been committed to them for some time and it's right after he visited us and coaches visited him this week. http://247sports.com/Player/Carlton-Davis-36452 (http://247sports.com/Player/Carlton-Davis-36452)

Good chance that he's AU. 6' 2" cb.

And I think Gustav is going to see Ivey tonight or some time this week. The big time OT out of fla. He's leaning UF I think but we're close.

I still think we close out strong. I don't know about top 5 but maybe right outside. I say 7th.

Rashad.

Read on 24/7 that Robinson has moved on as have we apparently.    I would think we have a legit shot with Dominique Reed of Coffeyville Community College in Kansas.

Just a word to the wise - I quit following recruiting a few years ago.  Every now and then I'll see something interesting pop up on Facebook or sometimes on here, but for the most part, I couldn't tell you anything about any of the players or anything about the potential commits, decommits, flips, signees, and heinies.  I'm much, much happier for it.  No more "busts" or diamonds in the rough and definitely no more Bama-party Februaries.

Yeah I'm generally disappointed after the build-up each year and this season is no different. It doesn't leave one confident when two of our principal targets (Cowart and Beckner) were asked after last months All-American game to claim their schools of interest. Both responded to the question followed by maybe "squeezing Auburn in," almost as an afterthought.

I probably spend half as much time with it although I have been particularly interested in our defensive tackle prospects which IMO will make or break our run defense. Not looking overly favorable at this point.

Never subscribed to Rivals BTW.

You cheap bastards need to cough up some more cash then if our team's gonna fly. No core on defense = zero championships. Carry on!

srsly, DL us obviously a concern in this class and pass rush last season. The JUCO kid and Johnson need to be hits and not misses. Not 5 stars but I'm assuming good players based on offer list.

Also, I believe we close with 1 or 2 more good gets on DL. Will be disappointed if we don't get Holland and Cowart but regardless, we mainly just need a big body to mold if we don't land one of the guys that are ready for SEC play this year.

Lawson and Daniels level if play are unknowns but I expect them to do well.

I'm ready for Wednesday and my bag is full of cash. I'm ready to empty it.

Don't have to have Thompson, Beckner or a Mack but we need a few that can jam up the middle against teams that traditionally gash us inside...ie. UGA. Rush ends are great getting after QBs but without interior help they will be ineffective for having to chase streaking backs downfield or getting clowned outside by swing/screen passes. Not telling any well informed Xer a damn thing here, especially a bonafied, esteemed judge of talent as yourself.
Have read that this Super Bowl contains no past high school 5*s.
I'm simply saying we needed help that gained some experience last year, at least a couple that could provide depth while they learn to be quality players.
We supplemented the shortages with JUCOs  which was good for a quick fix but it doesn't hide the numbers we have missed on at CB and even worse the underdeveloped and unused numbers Malzahn keeps bringing in at WR.
That's right...I'm criticizing the Head Coach for his recruiting shortcomings.
