Blu Ray already does this.
PS does not do this for games.
It could if it wanted to. But who wants this?
You say it could but yet there is no proof with there being a game.Sony needs to stick to making overpriced TV's and CD Players, and stay out of the data processing business.
If they had this capability why in God's green Earth would they not utilize the technology? The entire XBox/microsoft community would be theirs for the taking. I'll tell you why because they can't do it.

So you're saying that optimus prime is easily hacked?
Technology company AMD (supplier of graphics hardware for the Xbox 360) is claiming that the Xbox 360's successor will be capable of producing the kind of visual detail seen in James Cameron's Avatar, as reported on examiner.com via the August issue of Official Xbox Magazine US.(http://brianorndorf.typepad.com/.a/6a00e54ee7b64288330128765992ee970c-500wi)
Cramming the kind of technology it took to render every frame of the eyeball-searing Avatar into a console within the next year or so sounds impossible, but AMD is claiming the next Xbox will launch with this within reach.
AMD would not confirm it was actually working on the next Xbox but director of ISV relationships at AMD, Neal Robison, has said that gamers have a lot to be excited about. Beyond visual fidelity Robison claims that the AI and physics capabilities of the next generation will allow for every pedestrian in an open-world title like GTA or Saints Row to be an individual character with a unique personality. This would mean NPCs would react in a whole host of new and different ways to in-game actions.
Of course, this is far from the first time this sort of hyperbole has been tossed out into the public. Gamers have been teased with promises of Toy Story graphics for the PS2 and Toy Story 2 graphics for the original Xbox before.

We shall see
Custom hardware dev kits for the next Xbox will be shipped to leading developers and publishers by the end of the year, according to a new report.
Citing a "source," the generally reliable Edge Magazine reports developers like Ubisoft Montreal are working on 'target boxes' based on Microsoft's intended specifications for its new machine.
The target boxes, which have been sent to top publishers like EA and Ubisoft, are basically PCs featuring components that aspire to the new machine's specs. Edge says that "AMD is providing the bespoke GPU solution for Microsoft's console."
Microsoft is now replacing these with new dev kits. The story is fueling speculation that the new Xbox will be available at retail by the end of 2012.
So giving most of the developers less than year to come out with stuff? nah.. fall 2013, i'm guess'n
CNET says it has a source within the Xbox team that has confirmed an earlier report by Develop that the next Xbox will hit in 2013.
This tidbit is buried within a larger report saying that Dan Coyner, the leader of the Xbox design and experience group has found a new position within the company. Coyner has been involved in the branding, design, and marketing of both Xbox systems – including the overall user experience.
Granted by by the USPTO on Dec. 27, Microsoft's new patent allows for the DVR capabilities for a game console:
By way of example and not limitation, in one aspect, a digital video recorder (DVR) application allows users to record media content on a gaming console. The DVR application also integrates itself with the console menu. Once integrated, users can record media content while playing games (or they can record content at other times also). The recorded content can include television programming, gaming experience (whether local or online), music, DVDs, and so on. Users are also given various choices when it comes to DVR, such as choosing resource allocation for recording of content and for system performance.
The patent outlines recording TV, video, music, games, or basically any multimedia content onto the Xbox. That's great. No more extra peripherals. No more recording dongles. Soon we'll all be recording our kill shots and speed runs directly to our Xboxes.
In Europe, PlayStation 3 owners have had the "PlayTV" accessory that turns the console into a DVR. Similarly, in Japan an official Sony device called the "Torne" also attaches to the PS3 to provide DVR features. Whereas these solutions are external plug-in devices, Microsoft's new patent is for console with integrated DVR.
There's only one thing that we don't know, and that is whether or not the very next Xbox will have the DVR function ready. Not all patents are realized, or realized in time for the next-gen.
Sounds like they're essentially making a hybrid between a PC and gaming console.
Bringing the capabilities of a PC into the user-friendly format of a console. Pretty smart move, IMO.
I think that is the endgame.
As an old PC gamer I gotta think that's the next logical step.

Sweet, does this mean they will be rereleasing Wolfenstein?
UK games industry outlet MCV has reported that both the next Xbox AND the PlayStation 4 will be shown at this year's E3 in June.
This isn't the first time that a publication has cited an unnamed source with information like this, but this isn't some unknown central European games blog - MCV's credibilty makes this particular report worth paying attention to.
Speaking on Twitter, MCV's online editor Ben Parfitt said "Obviously we can't reveal our sources. But you have my personal word on this - the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level."
So you're saying I need to start saving for Christmas 2013.
The chipset for a next generation Xbox console has been in production since last month, and will go into full production by the end of the year, according to technology news reports.
Tech site Fudzilla states, "Recent speculation that the new main System on a Chip (SoC) for the Next Xbox began production is apparently accurate; the SoC did indeed start production in late December of 2011. Sources tell us that the code name for the chip is Oban, and it is being produced by both IBM and Global Foundries for Microsoft."
The report goes on to claim that, "the power behind the next Xbox will be a PowerPC CPU that is married to an ATI Southern Islands GPU, or modified 7000 series." It adds that the console is unlikely to ship at the end of 2012, with full production gearing in December of this year.
"This first run of these 32nm Oban chips will be destined for developer consoles, so any hope for a holiday console release in 2012 seems unrealistic, according to our sources, but an announcement perhaps before the end of the year might be possible. It would seem Microsoft's strategy of getting it in 2013 is all but assured. We do think that the chips will be in production by the end of the year for consoles destined to be sold in 2013, which seems to agree with what others are saying."
Need to start saving now. It's probably going to cost around $1000.
Need to start saving now. It's probably going to cost around $1000.
Following initial reports from tech blogs Fudzilla and SemiAccurate, our sources have confirmed that mass production of the system's GPU will indeed begin by the end of 2012 but will not, however, be based on AMD's 7000 series Southern Islands GPU. Instead, the processor will be derived from the 6000 series, which was introduced last year. More specifically, it will be akin to the Radeon HD 6670, which offers support for DirectX11, multidisplay output, 3D and 1080p HD output. The chip currently has a market price of upwards of $79.99.
Developers are likely to receive development kits based on the system's final configuration in August. Projected pricing for the console was not provided.
I would guess $400 - $500, especially if they have "premium" systems with better specs than the lesser systems. The chips that they are using in the 720 are miles ahead of what's in the 360, but they're not some brand new uber technology that was created from scratch just for the 720 within the last few months; the chipset is actually an improved modification to an already-existing chipset (AMD's 6000 series) that costs about $80.
All of the reports that I can find suggest that the 720 will be smaller and cheaper to produce than the 360. Of course, because it's the "next big thing," it will likely be priced higher than the 360 despite being cheaper to produce, but I imagine it won't be overpriced by too much more.
So basically what you are saying is, we should use more LEDs...right?
In real terms, the Xbox 720's raw graphics processing power is expected to be six times that of the Xbox 360 and will yield 20-percent greater performance than Nintendo's forthcoming console, the Wii U.
While I back up the salt truck, consider a new report coming to us by way of CVG. If we are to believe the rumors of this super-secret developer meeting that MS hosted in London, then the next rumor is that shortly after said meeting select devs received their Durango (current next Xbox code name) development kits. And the processor said to be powering everything is nothing less than a sixteen-core IBM PowerPC processor. That is an impressive figure. It's even more impressive when you consider the fact that the CPU is even "future-tech" to the highest-end PCs currently on the consumer market. Does this mean that the next Xbox might (albeit for a limited time) be more powerful than consumer PCs when it's released? That would be a feat, for sure.
I would rather us be to this point.....

I tried to get Wench into that show, be she hated it.
8) Miami Vice
These guys perciate' the plug...and agree.
That show was important to me for a variety of reasons. My list of the ten best series of all time includes it because it is a part of one of my transition periods.
It's a little like Nirvana's Nevermind album in that it changed the way everybody did everything from that point out.
Agreed. That show was bad ass and something I looked forward to every week...especially the opening where the girls titties were bouncing. Always a great guest star on as well.
Back to X-Box.User Error.
Can't get mine to connect to internet. Every single other fucking thing in the house works fine.
PS3? No problem. Laptops, iPads, iPhones, Nooks, TV, printers, all have no problem.
But X-Box? Piece of Shit Box. Was connected. Now won't. Tried it wirelessly and tried it wired. Fail. Never gets past the first test.
Do everything their idiotic help screens say and it never gets past the Network connection in this graphic. An X shows up over the Network plug:

The ignorant fucking thing tells me to reboot my router. Yeah. Everything else in the house works fine so it's CLEARLY the router.
XBox sucks. That's the problem here.
Any known issues with connectivity?

Microsoft installed anti-virus software on the XBox 360 which detects if a PS3 is connected to your network. If one is detected, then it shuts down the XBox's network capabilities in order to prevent imminent loss of sensitive information from PS3 usage.
Whenever I get problems, my first step is to reboot the router and the cable modem.
I've had wifi working perfectly on my iPhone, but not my laptop. Reboot the modem and router, and then laptop starts working again.
Was about to say this. Sometimes there is just a hangup in acquiring a network connection. Ive had it happen on Droid, iPhone, Dell Laptop, Xbox, etc - where only one of them is having an issue. Rebooting everything in the chain of command (modem, router, device) solves it everytime. And Kaos knows this - he just wants to use it as a reason to bitch about the Xbox because he is mad he couldn't get KISS summer tour tickets.
Will be behind the curtain doing photos and food with the legends and then have row 2 seats when the fun starts.
You are gonna do the food for them? What do they like? You don't have to worry about the ham being too big for the bread do you?
Gene and Paul are Jewish. Ham probably not on the menu.
I got tix. Don't think I don't.
And the guy who was going to work backstage access for me in New Orleans? I got it in B'ham. Will be behind the curtain doing photos and food with the legends and then have row 2 seats when the fun starts.
You totally forgot about the Christmas (holiday, since he is Jewish) Party with Gene didn't you?
This Christmas?
Yes....it was a great time. Gene is really cool to talk to in a private setting. Ask him his thoughts on Obama - hilarious.
Who did you dress up as?

Didn't forget. Never got info.
Well, I wasn't sure if you would show up in full cat garb with tongue hanging out whilst attempting to set off pyrotechnics, and get us kicked out. I couldn't take that chance friend.
Can't wait for them to show me what I'll be spending hundreds of dollars on!
Microsoft has been quiet about its plans for the Xbox 360's successor, but it's certainly doing something behind closed doors. Microsoft has beefed up security tremendously.
Microsoft employees were notified recently that access to many of the buildings on its Redmond, Washington campus would be limited in order to maintain secrecy. Apparently, this sort of security is typical of companies like Apple, but Microsoft is usually more open. Something is happening behind closed doors in Redmond, and we can't wait to find out more. New consoles are always exciting.
Estimated cost $8,000.00
Xbox World will stop revolving come December, but it plans on going out with a bang. Specifically, the UK publication's second-to-last issue claims to have all the inside deets on Microsoft's next console.

When did I ever say I was a Sony Fanboi? Yes I have a PS3 yes I think that the PS3 is a better system then the Xbox 360, but I also realize that the Xbox360 is a better gaming system. I got the PS3 because it had the blue-ray player on it and better graphics card then the 360.
It won't be seen cause you will not have one Sony fan boy.

I had a regular Xbox before the PS3 so unlike you who is a microsoft fanboy (hello Zune) I purchase my systems based on what I am looking for. I openly admit that the 360 kicked PS3 ass when it comes to gaming. I will get this when it comes out.

8 fucking cores!!!?!?
Translation: FUCKING FAST.
Wonder how much memory is slated for the GPU, surprised it doesn't mention that.
Microsoft's next Xbox, AKA Durango, will have much better speech detection, according to sources at the Verge. That includes natural language detection, which will allow the Xbox to process normal speech patterns, similar to Apple's Siri. So, for example, instead of saying "Xbox, play 3," you might simply say, "Xbox, where can I watch The X-Files?"(http://cdn.slashgear.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/17_xbox360_gtsNonLiveEnabled_4CPCentered_L-503x500.jpg)
Furthermore, users may be able to turn the new Xbox on using only voice. Speech-to-text is also a possibility, which would allow users to, say, compose Xbox Live messages using only voice. The Verge also mentions a possible function that would allow the Kinect to detect the number of people in a room and suggest suitable multiplayer games.
An improved Kinect, possibly bundled with or built into the next Xbox, has been expected for quite some time now. As such, it's not much of a stretch to assume the upgraded device would feature improved voice recognition in addition to improved physical recognition.
No more borrowing from your friends! New Xbox ‘to BLOCK second-hand video games’
-Move would mean end to second-hand market
-Users could have to verify their identity every time they play a game
Gotta say if everything stays status quo looks like PS is going to win this round of console wars.
Maybe...
The price difference is not truly $100. The Xbox One comes with a Kinect unit; the PS4 does not come with an Eye unit. The Eye has to be bought separately for $59, so if you have any interest in the Kinect/Eye capabilities, then you're looking at only about a $40 difference.
The other biggest negative for Microsoft is the used game issue. However, they're working with Gamestop, Gamefly, and similar companies so that they can still resell old games. According to Microsoft, you will be able to sell your games and buy used copies of games.
Gotta say if everything stays status quo looks like PS is going to win this round of console wars. But the XBOX One exclusive game is Zoomba Fitness.

So if I'm working at a hotel that has shitty wi-fi, I can't play the XBone?
Nah, you can always play with your XBone in any hotel, internet or not. You may need to rely on your imagination a little more, but it can be done.
Do you get a bunch of lotion and shoot it on your face?
Holy Schmoly..... well, no can say they don't listen...
Was just coming here to post that. Now, get rid of not being able to play my XBLA games, and I'll be interested.
Chances are that they'll develop a software emulator to run those games. That's what they did with the 360 in order to make it backwards compatible with original Xbox games.
I think it's funny. MS is designing this console to replace everything you have hooked up to your TV. Cable, Blu-Ray, Games... Except for Xbox 360 games.I think it is humorous that they have decided to go in opposite directions. XBOX who's bread and butter has been gamers is trying to be more of a total media system and PlayStation is trying to go after the hard core gamers. I swear to god between Windows 8 and the philisophical changes to XBOX the company is in the hands of friggin baboons.
Not sure which system to get (and won't until after Christmas, when they start hitting the market and the bugs are found) but pretty good commercial.
