Title: Championship Gear
Post by: Kaos on February 10, 2011, 01:25:12 PM
There are three schools of thought regarding the purchase of championship gear.  (Preface: Any day now, I expect to hear how "bammah champeenship stuff done outselled Aubren stuff...")

1) Not going to buy anything much with the NC logo because Auburn isn't defined by that.  Will just stick to regular Auburn gear so I don't look like a bandwagon jumper.

2) Going to buy some of it because, well, you know we DID win the national championship.  Wearing title gear is a subtle way to say it without saying it.  And it pisses Bama fans off.

3) If it's got the championship logo, I'm buying it.  Cushions, pajamas, shot glasses, shirts, hats, plates, golf balls, keychains, socks, shorts, whatever.  Going to flaunt it.

That brings me to two questions.  I like numbered lists.

1) What, if any, gear or accessories have you purchased?

2) When Daniel Moore and Greg Gamble come out with their championship paintings are you buying?

I fall into category 2.  I put a small flag outside my house.  Small window stickers for my bmw and truck. High end apparel (Underarmor polo and jacket). Couple of other things.  But not overboard.

Haven't decided if I'll order the Moore or Gamble prints.

On a side note, I heard a commercial yesterday where Moore is unveiling his fifth painting in the "Greatest Season Ever" series for Bama.   Wonder if the Auburn series should be titled "Yeah But Ours Was Better" or "Even Greater Than The Greatest Season Ever."

I am in category 2.  I have bought a couple of things that serve as the FU to leg humpers and inbreds but refuse to wear any of it after the beginning of Fall practice.  Mostly I just stick with my "duck hunt" shirt since it doesn't really have a shelf life and the ardtards around here know what it refers to.

Seriously?  I've still got a polo from the 2004 season I wear occasionally.  Like maybe once a year.  I don't see shelving the NC stuff until at least next January.   If then.

I bought one nice shirt to celebrate the NC.  I might buy a hat because it will last longer.

I'm not real big on buying championship clothing.  I know they won.  I'll buy a few things for keepsake, but I'm an Auburn fan even when we're 5-7.  I'm not saying everyone should adopt my way of thinking, but that's just how I roll.

#2 for me.  I have 1 T-shirt, 1 Golf Shirt, and  fleece pullover.  I'm waiting on a hat because what I really want does not exist yet.  I would like a normal hat (with whatever AU logo you like) with a BCS championship patch on the side.

I will not be purchasing the prints as I really have nowhere to hang them.  I'm pretty sure my wife won't let me hang them in the baby's room.

I fall into the second category as well.  I bought :ua: hat with the championship logo, I also bought a sticker for the car and a :ua: tshirt as well.  However, just a warning to everyone the shirt I got

was the biggest piece of shit shirt ever, I cannot believe :ua: put out this product.  The material is very thin and when I ordered my size it barley came down past my waist.  Needless to say I sent it back.  I will be getting another shirt.  That is all I ordered and will buy.

Bought a couple of polos and some t-shirts.  Got the BCS Champ logo sticker for the SUV.  Won't put one on my car, though.  The Auburn Alum sticker on the front is enough.

Bought two scoreboard pictures (Iron Bowl and BCS) 8x10s to frame.  In the stairs going down to the basement, I have framed 8x10s for all the big wins since I've been an Auburn undergrad (Like Iron Bowls and such).

I will buy a Greg Gamble/Daniel Moore picture for the basement, but I want to see Moore's first.

Gamble's sketch:  http://www.customframingbyflowersbyrita.com/images/all_in_aub_nc_2010_.jpg

I also bought a poster replica of the Montgomery newspaper, the picture that says WAR EAGLE, which Chizik holding the crystal football.

And you know about my SI story.

Guess that makes me a 2, borderline 3?

I bought the white NC cap and actually wear it pretty often, just because of what it is.  I normally like my baseball caps pretty straightforward without a bunch of frills, claasic AU or vintage Aubie.  But this hat....I gotta' wear it just for the principle.

Bought one long sleeve NC shirt and the Guy Harvey short sleeve T.  Haven't worn the GH yet cause it needs to be above 45 degrees to put it on.

I heard the same Moore commercial.  I know this is sour grapes but damn, how do you come out now with a "Greatest Season Evah" commercial?

I got a couple things in Glendale.

Got this pullover for half off ($40 from $80) as seen wore by Jason Campbell during that Taco Bell faceoff thing with Joey Harrington.

Also got two T-shirts. One that doesn't actually say we won were champions, but says "BCS Championship" and lists all of the other wins during the regular season/SEC Championship game.

It was half off too so I paid like $7 for it.

I also bought a t-shirt online from the hotel that I thought featured the logo in my avatar, but it was actually a slightly different shield logo. Not what I wanted, so it will probably be a drawer-shirt that I pull out to do yardwork in.

I kind of still want an orange t-shirt with the "official" logo in it. Malzahn was rocking a nice orange sweater vest with the logo on signing day.

And I don't plan on shelving the pullover or the t-shirt any time soon. Certainly before the next champion is crowned in 2012.

Also, I bought a shit-ton of magazines, newspapers, etc. to commemorate it.

I plan on putting together some sort of giant framed display of everything together someday.

Seriously.  I cannot tell you how many mouth breathers I have made fun of over the years for wearing "championship gear" after the championship year was gone.  I will not go down that road.

Duck hunt is subtle enough to not fall into that category and in their face enough to piss them off.

Thanks for that link.  I hadn't seen it yet.  I know he can't get everybody on there, but I wish there were some Josh Bynes action.  And maybe Antione Carter. too.  Or Ziemba.  It's still not bad.

Does Allen Zuniga still do sports art?  The one he did of Dye, Jordan, Bo, and 17-16 is on the wall in my den.

I bought a NC shirt and a Duck-Hunt shirt to go with the normal Auburn collection. As far as the prints go, I like GF's idea.

I went to Dicks Sporting Goods in Dothan the other day. They were having a sidewalk sale and 90% of the stuff out there was bama gear at 50% off. It was lovely. Snaggle, you should run over there and take a piss on it all and high tail it outta there.

I fall in to Category 2.

I bought the locker room hat because...well, it's what they had on after the game.  I liked the Under Armour hat better, so I went back and bought it also.  I also bought the UA tee shirt, but in blue.  I do agree with GF though...it really is a piece of shit, especially for $30.

I am buying up the publications though just to have some coffee table reading in my man cave.

I also bought the NC decal and will proudly keep it on the rear window of the Yukon until the 2011 NC is crowned.

Check it out. Dustin Hoffman, 'Rain Man,' look retarded, act retarded, not retarded. Counted toothpicks, cheated cards. Autistic, sho'. Not retarded. You know Tom Hanks, 'Forrest Gump.' Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition. That ain't retarded. Peter Sellers, "Being There." Infantile, yes. Retarded, no. You went full retard, man. Never go full retard. You don't buy that? Ask Sean Penn, 2001, "I Am Sam." Remember? Went full retard, went home empty handed.

I can't believe you kept it at $30 dollars.  I got mine on sale at Tiger Rags paid $20 and it still wasn't worth it.   What I can't figure out is, I get the fact that they were mass producing these things at lightspeed.  On the hat the MNC logo is not quite as nice as the AU logo on the side, I figured because the Auburn and :ua: logos were done in advance and then they quickly did the MNC logo.  I get that.

What I don't get is how the shirt can be such shitty quality, I could understand the screen printing being messed up or something but the shirt should just be an :ua: shirt.  It is nothing like my other :ua: shirts and I have another white one.  Very disappointed!

It's the circle of life.  I twittered.

I get the Fairley/Cam thing and yes, they were pretty much the face of AU football...to the Nation.  To many Auburn fans, Kodi was the heart of Auburn football.  Not lip service about doing what's best for the team.  He DID what was best for the team...AND scored the first TD in the MNCG.

I have the t-shirt Academy printed that night at midnight just because my sister and her husband went out there and got me one.  It is ugly.  I will probably just sleep in it.

The poster from the Celebration has been framed and I will pick that up tomorrow.  I also bought the Toomer's Corner Rolling in the Snow" picture and it has the BCS score under it.  They will go in my office.

I also bought myself a white gold pendant of orange and blue sapphires from Ware's.  The colors really pop against the silver color of the gold.  As Cousin Eddie would say "It's REAL nice."  I am also adding some diamonds to my gold Auburn slide bracelet.

I bought the Bodda Getta book from the OANews and the SI commorative issue.  I also saved the two SI regular issues with Auburn on the front.  Not sure what I will do with those yet.  Did NOT buy the SI commorative book - I bought the LSU one for Carl a few years back and it is cheesy.

A new AU Alum sticker is on the back of my navy blue SUV with the Auburn plates.  Kind of sticks out in Houston.

There are no plans to buy any other tshirts, hats, etc.  We did it.  I know we did it.  bammers know we did it.  No need to wallow head to toe in it like they do.

I bought a #2 jersey with the BCS Title game patch in PHX.  I actually found the big Tervis Tumbler with the official Auburn 2011 National Champions logo in it in a Greenville Bed Bath & Beyond.  I bought it.  I also bought an Under Armor hat with the Championship logo that I'll never wear.  It sits in my office.

Other than that, I bought the short sleeve white sideline pullover in PHX that Chizik wears and a few game pins.  I'm not going to go out and find a whole lot of Championship gear.  I guess I'm a combo of #1 and #2.

I'm picking option 2.; however, I have the great pleasure to remind U of O fans of our championship win.

Is that greater than reminding Alabama fans?

The Duck Hunt t-shirt was to good to pass up.  I have since bought a UA pullover and T-shirt.

Before lifting weights the other evening a duck fan said to me, "That's an ugly shirt".  It might be, but it's a winning t-shirt".

BTW,  I bought a hat.  A blue hat with a smaller BCS logo on front and an AU on the side.  It's cotton.  I tried to buy one of those white ones that are the "official" ones, and looked at another white Under Armor one too.  I knew I'd never wear a stark white hat, I knew if I did, it would get dirty and dingy, and couldn't stand the sheen on either.  Just give me an old cotton hat.

I bought a coffee mug that says national champions, and has the schedule on it, because I love to drink coffee outta cool mugs.

Got me a few magazines for the coffee table

That's about it.

Personal pref, I guess, but I'm not big on framed jerseys.  Gameworn?  Maybe I'd think differently.

Like to see a pic of it when you get it done.  Curious to see what it would look like.  Maybe I just haven't seen the right presentation.

I'll post it for sure.  Going to take my time with it.  Getting some photos blown up that I took of the scoreboard and other things.  Figured some of the images would mean more to me if they were of my own taking. Even if they're not the best.

#2.  I bought a sticker for my truck (my truck really needed something Auburn on it anyway, totaled my vehicle around Thanksgiving and the best deal I found to replace it was a truck that's a little too close to crimson colored ), a t-shirt, and a hat.  The hat was mostly to wear in to work for the first week after the game.  I wore it in, then would sit it on top of the bookshelf in my cube so that the Bammer across the hall had to look at it all day.  That was the extent of my smack to him (he's a pretty good guy, for a Bammer) but I could tell it was eating at him.

He did what I asked.  Ziemba, Kodi, Zac Etheridge, Dyer, Byrum, Cam, Pugh...

Still not sure I like it, though.  Too much Chizik.

I bought a hat from Academy (the won the team wore right after the game). All the shirts I saw at the the retail stores sucked, so the wife ordered a couple of shirts from the AU store that you could not get at retail outlets ("This is how we roll" with a picture of Toomers being rolled was pretty cool).

I got them to just piss off bammers and boy did it work. I posted a picture of my hat on Facebook and one punk bammer, who is only my friend on FB because he is the younger brother of a good buddy, started mouthing off about how AU was going to get into trouble with the FBI...blah, blah, blah. He got really pissed and thought I was getting all "personal" with him when I told him I had no idea he worked for the FBI, since he seemed to know so much about the goings on there. Little punk wanted to start talking smack, but apparently could not handle getting back at him. He totally went insane and started talking out of his ass like accusing me of stealing from his family and a bunch of other psychotic nonsense, even wanted to fight, in which I told him he knew where I lived, though I knew he was just all bark (rich spoiled brat born with a silver spoon in his mouth). I loved how us winning a MNC made this particular bammer, who did graduate from there just like his older brother, just totally go psycho about that hat.

Probably Tuberville's fault.  Idea came to him when he spilled bbq sauce all over the table and used a jersey to wipe it up.

Tuberville fucked up everything.  He was the one who had us in orange jerseys.

Tuberville was Eric Ramsey's lawyer.

Tuberville hired Doug Barfield.  He was Terry Tuberville's offensive coordinator.

He burned Saniflush.

Tuberville also ran off Wildman Steve.

Tuberville shut down Tiger Time.

Tuberville bulldozed Harry's.

He set fire to the Barn.

Framed.  Along with every game ticket from last year, including Championship tickets.  A few pins as well.  If I can get it signed?  Great. If not?  Oh well.

Jumbo...wanna show these clowns what a real autograph collection looks like?  I'll put it this way, Hobby Lobby & Walmart couldn't keep enough 8x10 frames in stock when we were in our hayday of collecting autographs.

We usually waited until they were taking a piss.  We would stand on each side the person and hand him a football and an 8x10.  They'd autograph our items with their tally wacker still hangin out.  The expression on their faces was priceless.  I think Jumbo took a picture of one of the players with the "What The Fuck, Are You Serious!?!" look on his face, I think it was either Erasimus James or Josh Harris (former Bowling Green State QB not the Auburn Long Snapper).
