Title: Topic For Discussion On A Slow Day
Post by: Snaggletiger on November 03, 2010, 03:23:00 PM
I was just looking at Miss. State's year so far and they have quietly posted a 7-2 record and nice ranking for the first time in fo-evah.  Strangely, with the offensive prowess of Mullen, they're doing a lot of it with defense, giving up only 17 points per game.  Bama and Arky are up next with the Egg Bowl after that.  If they somehow pulled a 2-1 record out of that, Mullen would have to get some real recognition for Corch of the Year (Well behind The Chin, of course)

With his assistant corching resume and a pretty stout body of work at a very tough place to win, does MSU have what it takes ($$$) to keep this guy?  Should Richt get popped by AU and GT, do they punt him and offer Mullen?  Would Colorado come calling?  I don't know what MSU pays but I wouldn't imagine they could match some of the bigger playas in D1. If he somehow beats Bama next week, does that put this guy on the map as one of the hot commodities in Corching?

Thoughts?

He's definitely building a resume and I don't expect him to stay at MSU.

HOWEVER,

You don't leave the SEC to go coach at fucking Colorado.  He'll take over at UF when Urb is done.  If something within the conference comes open, he might take a look, but I doubt he'll jump unless the $$ increase significantly.

But, then, the next coach I represent will be my first.

The prevailing school of thought is that if Richt gets tossed, they'll go after Georgia boy, Kirby Smart.  But, I've always been wary of going after an assistant to start his head corching career at a major D1 position.  Even though there's always plenty of exceptions to the rule like Richt and Mullen.  I'd just rather have someone who has gotten their feet wet and has their own plan in place.  Mullen would make sense to me.  Dude could be scary with real talent.

personally, i don't think richt has much to worry.  sure the fan basejawga rednecks are in an uproar but the decision makersmoney providers still have a bit of confidence in his ability to lead this team.

mullen, impressive season.  i'm just wondering if he's ready to bolt.  get a few more good seasons @ MSU to solidify the resume.

Those who build a resume in the south want to remain in the south. No to Colorado. WVU is a better gig. I don't think Mullen can build much more of a resume in the SEC West after beating Bama once though. But I guess he could get Nutted and hang around a few years and fight it out for Mississipi supremacy.

Mullen is originally from Pennsylvania and of course, he corched at Utah before heading to the Gayta.I can see the WVU or possibly PSU attraction should JoPa finally keel over at 84.

And I think I heard PSU has a inhouse coach that has waited over 15 + years for JoePa to move on.

I think the only two schools outside of the SEC that Mullen would go to would be WVU and Penn St.  I don't what the prospects of him landing either job would be.  Go with chinook on this one.  Stay at MSU have a few more solid years.  Wait for Urb to die of heart problems or bolt out UF and then he will take that over.  I know some the USCe fans are wanting Lord Visor to hang it up and then go after Mullen big time.

I asked a recent MSU grad about his team yesterday and told him I was glad we played them early with the way they are playing right now.  He told me that rumor has it, that some big time boosters have rounded up some money to bump Mullen's salary if needed to hang on to him for a while longer.

Fuck that. I am not sure if you were being nice, but with the way Cam and this offense is improving every week, we would beat Miss. State by 21 points if we were playing them Saturday.

State wouldn't stand a chance now.  Malzahn was still tinkering with the offense then.  And State might cough up a little money...enough to keep him from going to a shitty gig like Colorado...but if a major BCS school calls...one with a chance to win...he's gone like fart in the wind.  Nobody stays at MSU, they either die on the vine, or move on to better things, and I can't recall one ever leaving there for better things in my lifetime.  Mullen may be the the first, and better, because you know how it goes...if you lose, even at MSU, you're a fucking brain dead, hack of a coach.

Bow down, bitches.  I told ya it would happen!  Half of you motherfuckers thought I was crazy.  Look who's stupid now haha peace out.

(By the way, Tiger Wench, I completely agree.  In fact, I shudder every time I see him write "corch."  In another fact, I was watching the election results last night thinking about how many dumbasses are getting elected and my mind drifted to that black woman saying "corch" while holding the floor of the greatest government in the world.  Then I thought of TigersX and people still typing "corch" and I shuddered again.)

OK. What is the deal with the term "corch?"

I don't usually use it, but it does bring back fond memories. The first time I actually heard it was in the 9th grade. We had started going to the high school to workout (9th had its own school) and I heard a coach refer to another coach as "corch". The coach that used that term was Corch Harper, Roman Harper's dad. I loved the man as a coach and the term never meant anything negative for us. We still get together and refer to coach Harper as "corch". Maybe for the rest of you it has some sinister meaning, but for me, it will always remind me of coach Harper.

Mullen will not stay at MSU over 3 years.

Oh he's stayin' Wench. Saban has command over the Bamer minions much as the corndog displayed via your own hands on this site. Who would give up so much power in Turdville where even the fans are chastiseable by a blindsiding loss to some Utes? There are rumbles on the sports talk about that. Wade ( I don't know what the fuck I am doing) Phillips is gone after this year. I really don't follow Pro football (Sat is my day) but have been going to this one bar on Sunday this year and started people watching. Doesn't Georgia have a coach?  Richt I think it is?

Georgia has kind of a unique situation.  I heard an interview with Richt a few days ago and one of the issues was how they seem to have more rivalry games than any other SEC team.  If you think about it, that may just be the case.  South Carolina is always early but that's become a war and pretty much a rivalry game.  I think Florida has long since become the big one on their schedule and next comes the oldest rivalry in the South, Auburn.  After that, it's in-State rival, Georgia Tech.

Point being, Georgia fans are already quite P.O.'d about a 2-8 slate against the Gators.  Georgia has two more, very loseable games against AU and GT.  If those games go in the crapper, it may very well be the end for Richt.

If he could turn them around the Dallas faithful would line up to blow him. Skeletor (Jerry) has do something (minus lock-out) Wade ain't putting butts in the seats.

Need to take into account that Lord Saybinz is now 59.  I would guess that if he were to make a move again, it would be one last time in what he considered the perfect gig.  Proving himself in the Pro's?  Finishing up closer to home...PSU?  Does he ride it out at the Crapstoned?

He had one shot in the NFL.

Big difference between Dallas (now) and Miami then( Talent wise). Jerry want's one more ring(s) before retiring-He is just to block headed to see the puppets he keeps hiring ain't gonna get it done. This season may open his eyes along with his age.

I hope he either keeps wade or gets another douche- Makes life funny on Sundays around here.

Of course perfect story would be Lord Turd leave Turdville and come here and fall flat on his face (again)

May be.  I think it would be stupid to judge him by these last few games.  Either you realize he's in a rebuilding cycle and give him a year or two to work through it, or you think he can't get the job done and fire him regardless.  But, unfortunately we live in a world now where one game can make or break you.  You're a good coach with the last win, and shitty coach with the last loss.  Sad the way things are, but that's the way they are.

Personally, I would have said keep Richt.  Good record, just needs to work through the rebuilding time...needs this QB to mature.  But if you play the game the way it's played these days, you go hire the next young gun that's full of piss and vinegar, or some guy that's waited his turn and will hire a go-getter staff (like Chiz).   And since UGA is likely (if they fire Richt) to be one of the few big time jobs open this year, along with probably Miami, they may have their pick of "soon to be great coaches".  I'm not positive Mullen is that, but might be.  However, if they do that, they may have to suffer through "recruiting players to fit the new coach's needs and wants".

I can't see Lord Saybinz being successful in the NFL mainly due to his style or more importantly, his need to control everything.  Still works for the most part with 17-21 year old guys but professionals making millions don't take orders real well.  That was one of the knocks on Shula in his tenure.  It was rumored that he handled his players more in the way he was taught growing up in being around big Shula and the pro game.  Little discipline and giving players more free reign.  Saybinz appears to be the polar opposite.

I think you see a prime example of that with the Moss/Vikings situation.  I saw interviews with Favre, Percy Harvey and one other player and they were openly questioning Childress and the decision to let Moss go.  Pull that crap in college and you'll be heading home in a heartbeat.

And Saban's whole aura is his ability to thrive as the all knowing sage,  teacher/ father image role model, football imitates life thing which doesn't play well among the wealthy, athletic laborers in the NFL.

This - all of it.

Jerry is the Steinbrenner of the NFL.  Winning is everything, money be damned.  Phillips is done.  The talent is there but even if it is not there, Jerry will buy it for whomever replaces Phillips.  The culture around Dallas will accept a Saban-esque type coach, because the fanbase is blasting the players all to hell and back.  They (the players) would do anything to win again...

However, I also think that Saban would have to win IMMEDIATELY at Dallas to make them accept his dickhead personality.

So basically the bama job will have prepared him well. You know when Saban was at Miami, it didn't seem like he was in his true form. I'm thinking he is gonna have to take his Napoleon persona with him to Dallas.

The big question I have with Mark is he another Lloyd Carr? He seems to always have good recruiting classes and seasons, but eventually if you don't win against the Gators and the East...somethings gotta give.  Looking through a bystanders glasses, cause I don't care whether they keep him or not, who is out there that is a step above him? Mullen...not yet maybe? Muschamp and Smart are both unproven.  I think they should give him at least one more year.

On the other topic, no way Saban goes back to the pros, he is way too power hungry and professional athletes aren't going to put up with his shit. I would eat Snaggle's hat if he were to go back to the pros.  Like it or not, I think he is at bama for awhile, until he gets sick of them or starts losing.

I could see one scenario, a really bad season here in Dallas. Something along the lines 3-13. Jerry in a desperate move to get credibility again, hires Lord Turd (HUGH Money) and some kind of general manager duties.

The reason they do it:

Jerry hasn’t had a splash in a while One playoff win in the last 14 years-Hiring what some consider the best college coach out there.

Lord Turd: He wants to be one of the college coaches they wins a MNC and a super bowl-Quickest route is Dallas-Talent is here.

Would it last-NO   they would kill each other.

I wouldn't ever say "never".  Jerry Waives $8 Mil in Teri Saban's face, and tells Nick he'll be in control of all the coaching...Nick would entertain it.  Jones didn't get rich without being able to persuade some folks to do some shit, or outright lying a time or two.  Not predicting it, just sayin'.

The boosters will sell their souls to keep their little coaching god. Short term money great, long term at "Big D", not so promising.

He will either retire there or get run out of town when they lose their fourth Iron Bowl in a row and haven't sniffed a MNC since the one they got last year.

I just do not ever want to outplay their ass only to be beaten by a last second field goal. That's my greatest fanatical fear. It happened once and I died a little that day. Auburn should be able to split with the phukers though.

Yes, he gave them one.  And in their own words, I've heard them say it even, an SECC doesn't mean much these days...so by their own admission, it's all or nothing, and no championship = unsuccessful season to them.

You had to bring that up, didn't you.  The only time I felt worse than I did that day walking out of Lesion Field, was when they announced Dax was leaving the team.

The NFL is on a crash course with a 2011 work stoppage.  There's no way they'll have it all worked out before February, and all coaching hires will have been made by then.

Sorry, but Saban will stay at Alabama one more year at the very least.  I'm okay with that.
