Goosebumps.

(But I'd take the 2004 team over this one no matter what)

Not when this team is #1 in the BSC and in the drivers seat not depending on someone else to lose.

Word.  Can't ask for more than the current situation.  Win and the MNC is yours.  Don't and it ain't.

Unless it is.

That's not the 2004 team's fault.

Do you really think this team would win against the team of old?

(By the way - not sure if this was clear, but I meant "I'd take the 2004 team in a matchup of 2004 AU vs. 2010 AU).

I'd like to have this offense and 2004's defense.  That team would be UNBEATABLE!!

This is an interesting thought.

Lets look a little further, to date this years team has played higher ranked opponents then the 2004 team did and records.
2010 opponents records 37-23
2004 opponents records 25-31

This years team in 8 games has already out rushed the 2004 teams total rushing yards for the season! a team with Ronnie and Carnel.

2010 Avg Scoring - 38.8 ppg
2004 Avg Scoring - 32.1 ppg

The 2004 team of course had the defense.

2004 Allowed 11.1 ppg
2010 allowed 23.5 ppg

I am not saying I agree or disagree with you, however I do know that I wouldn't say no matter what.

I do probably agree that the 2004 team would win (based on the defense of 2010) however, 2010 would score some points and I think the game would come down to a field goal.  I certainly wouldn't want to bet on it.

What about passing yard statistics?

2004 probably dominates that stat along with the defensive stats.  Not to mention, Cadillac returning punts?  Our punter was stout as well.

The thing about the 2004 team is that it was loaded with NFL talent on the depth chart and also had a tremendous amount of balance in every facet of the game.

I love 2010.  But Cam could only do so much.

I looked earlier from what I recall at this point it was something like below:
Passing:
2010: +/-1365 passing yards
2004: +/- 1850 passing yards

Do you think the 2004 team is part of the reason the 2010 is getting the respect it is getting now? Did the 2004 help put AU football back on the map so that teams down the road that were as successful would be considered serious contenders instead of a flash in the pan? Think about that.

Maybe.

I think the 2004 team more directly influenced the 2006 Auburn team.  That 2006 team moved very easily up to the #2 spot before getting thrashed by Arkansas.

This year, it seems like we've needed a lot of help moving up to #3 in the human polls (the only polls that could be subject to influence).  Don't forget that it's only the computers that are putting us at #1.  The voters still aren't respecting us as much as they should be.
