That billboard is within 5 miles of the center of Prichard. I highly highly doubt there are many kids from Prichard going to Auburn unless its on an athletic scholarship. While technically the billboard promotes the university as well, its goal is athletics. I think the billboard itself makes that pretty obvious. Do you seriously want to argue that a billboard right near Prichard is promoting the university's academic side?

Please let me know where Alabama has put up a football oriented billboard. Please let me know which station is airing ads promoting its athletics. I've heard plenty or radio advertisements paid for by the university promoting some of their academics programs on stations such as WABB and TK101, but I can't say I've heard one promoting athletics. Not on any of the mainstream stations, anyway. Now, on the sports AM stations or something, I have no idea. I definitely have not seen any university advertisement on billboards in this area, though.

I suppose its for that fan who just hasn't decided which team he will cheer for and is really on the fence. Maybe the billboard will sway him to choose Auburn as his team. I did not try to pin the race card on anybody in the Dre Kirkpatrick thread. I don't think anybody ever made it about race, so neither did I. You hung your hat on the argument that since his father is a preacher and his mother worked for the government, therefore they could not afford the car. In this case, I have demographics on my side. By the way, have you ever walked down the street in the middle or Prichard? I haven't either. I, along with most sane people in the area, avoid downtown Mobile and Prichard at all costs. There are murders over there literally every day. Just over the weekend, some fucker with an AK-47 barged into a house and killed somebody. Then the next day he came back to finish off everybody else. That area is plagued by crime and drugs.
Alot of people in Baldwin County don't go to Mobile unless it is to go to work, or some sort of special event. There really isn't anything in Mobile that makes us jump up and say "Hey, I'm bored.....lets go to Mobile". Unless its to get some pot or something. There really isn't shit over there. Maybe its a little difficult to understand because you're not from this area, but Mobile is a total shithole.
As far as education, please. Over the past 5 years at some point or another the State of Alabama had to take control of alot of Mobile's schools due to poor standardized testing over a period of time. All high schools in Mobile have on-campus security or constant police protection. Just the other week the Mobile County School Board considered a resolution to buy tasers for all school security.
Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if you heard a sports advertisement on JOX. Amazing.

No, I can honestly say I haven't but you can't really take my word as accurate because I haven't been thru Montgomery in probably 5-6 years and haven't been to Birmingham for like 8 years. No is the answer, but its not really an accurate one. I could understand a school putting an ad on their home turf. Had the billboard been in say Lee County, that would be a no brainer. Don't get me wrong, had Alabama put up a billboard such as Auburn's down here I would wonder what the hell the point was in that as well. I'm not really saying the AU one is THAT big of a deal either, just shows how bad AU is hurting in this area is all, imo. Its a recruiting ploy, and thats fine. Like I said though, its just showing how much AU is hurting. Also, I've seen on other boards something about AU's enrollment has been capped for some time now. What the hell is that all about?

Take a stroll down those streets after dark, let me know how that works our for you. As I have already stated, my one and only point is that it shows AU football is hurting. Thats really about it, nothing major beyond that. I don't really think there are that many people walking around Mobile thinking "Geez, am I gonna be an Alabama fan or an Auburn fan? I just can't decide......OH, BILLBOARD!" Thats why I would assume a billboard with a bigass football helmet, and the tiger eyes that are used for athletics, and says "CHOOSE AUBURN" that is planted in the middle of Mobile (which just so happens to be an area AU coaches have vowed to take back) is meant for recruiting purposes. It simply outwardly says "We're hurting". I'm not going to sit here and post all these cute little emoticons about it, but it was good for a slight chuckle. Thats about it.

I know thats the way you want to spin it because its inflammatory, but thats not even what I'm arguing. But to address what you have said, I think we are ahead of AU, yes. But, not in the sense that you say it. We have spent Y E A R S behind Auburn. Our program has been a total mess the better part of the past decade, and there is no arguing that. We are just now getting back on our feet. We had a great season last season, but lets see how we are able to maintain that. But if you honestly think Auburn has been at no disadvantage to Alabama for the past few years, then you are either stupid or just living under a rock. We have better talent at key positions, and I think AU got a taste of that in 08. I'm not saying we're vastly superior, blah blah blah, whatever bullshit you want to say to make an inflammatory comment and totally take out of context what I say, put words in my mouth, etc etc etc. I'm simply saying AU has been at a disadvantage the past few years.

I'm sure its probably been done by a coach before. Going outside the box could definitely be defined as riding around in a limousine decked out in Auburn gear to "evaluate" prospects. Be it head-to-head or overall record, it's only an even wash if you count the last TWO years, and that's because the year before we had the advantage in both categories, which averages out to even with the ONE year anomaly.

As I have already stated, my one and only point is that it shows AU football is hurting. Thats really about it, nothing major beyond that. I don't really think there are that many people walking around Mobile thinking "Geez, am I gonna be an Alabama fan or an Auburn fan? I just can't decide......OH, BILLBOARD!" Thats why I would assume a billboard with a bigass football helmet, and the tiger eyes that are used for athletics, and says "CHOOSE AUBURN" that is planted in the middle of Mobile (which just so happens to be an area AU coaches have vowed to take back) is meant for recruiting purposes. It simply outwardly says "We're hurting". I'm not going to sit here and post all these cute little emoticons about it, but it was good for a slight chuckle. Thats about it.

It's called advertising, its called 117 teams, all vying for similar prospects. It is not about Alabama football or their recruiting, its about Auburn trying to achieve the best recruits and doing it in ways that create hype and excitement.
If AU coaches feel they need to go that far out of the box to simply have a shot with some recruits, something tells me Alabama is doing a pretty good job.

So why would something tell you that Alabama is doing a good job? If we are not after the same players how does that translate into Alabama doing a good job? I hope we are trying new and innovative ways to catch the attention of 17 year olds. If we do, some will probably work and some may not, but to just do the same things that have always been done seems like a good way to fall behind to me.

Welcome to the state of Alabama. Whether it's on more national message boards or a local one like TigersX, Alabama fans ALWAYS carry the attitude of being the only legitimite football team in this state. Auburn can't compete. Alabama always wins. If AU does somehow win, it's because Alabama had a mess up and allowed it to happen. Auburn is stupid for trying to stay successful.

They hired Nick Saban because Alabama is a powerhouse that always gets the best coaches (see Billy Curry, Ray Perkins, Dubose, Franchione, Mike Price, Mike Shula). They have the most supportive and passionate fanbase (see bricks going through coaches' windows). They have a tradition of winning and understand what it takes to win (see NCAA infractions in the last 20 years).

I live in midtown which is a few blocks from Murphy High and it's 99% European with many Auburn Alums as friends and neighbors. Which is about 1 mile East of Wings. So lots of decent people do live close to that billboard.

Auburn football may soon be appearing on a roadway near you, that is if you're driving around Birmingham, Mobile and Atlanta.
Billboards promoting Auburn are going up today and tomorrow in a marketing campaign in conjunction with Auburn ISP Sports Network. The message is clean and right out of the fight song: Fearless and True, it says, with a helmet raised. It also says, ``Choose Auburn.''
Auburn officials said they chose those three cities for the billboards because of the large alumni base. A billboard on Rocky Ridge Road in Vestavia was up Tuesday.
``These billboards in strategically selected markets show our commitment to continuing to look for innovative ways to promote Auburn football and enhance the Auburn brand,'' Athletics Director Jay Jacobs said in a statement. ``The billboards will also promote and support the mission of Auburn University in general, complementing other recent investments such as the establishment of the Shug Jordan Professorship and other initiatives to come."

No. In a city of 1 million+ (including the suburbs), there are only around 20,000 AU alumni. AU fans tend to live in Georgia because that's what state Auburn is actually in. :stewie:

Where is the one in Atlanta?
Finally saw it last weekend. I85 Southbound, right before it turns into the connector, just South of Exit 89, North Druid Hills Road. It's on the left. It'll get lots of views on this traffic infested route.
