Title: Off Season Tidbit/Question
Post by: Snaggletiger on February 18, 2020, 06:08:11 PM
I know this was a couple of days ago, but Auburn added the title of Recruiting Coordinator to Travis Williams' list of duties, along with being Co-Defensive Coordinator and LB's Corch.  The article I saw said his $450K salary should be padded with a few more duckies and sheckels.  Sounds like a good move to me as it seems we've always heard nothing but good things about T-Will on the recruiting trail.

No big woop here, but Chad Morris added one of his former assistants to the staff as an analyst and he, Will Bryant, will be working with the QB's.  So.....this is my question.  Gus gave up play calling for the 17th time.  He called Morris the best OC in the game.  (And said the future is bright)  Morris openly said they will be using the tight end in the offense, which is a change in itself because we sign tight ends, then change their position name to H-Back and then never use them to do anything but block.

Ultimately, is Chad Morris going to have the leeway to change this offense to suit his offensive personality.  Well, I say his personality is offensive but I really don't know that. You guys know me.  I'm over Gus and his entire abortion of an offense that the world has long since figured out.  If this is going to be a situation where Co Mo (I just made that up) is free to do his thing, I have hope for the future.  On the other hand, if all that's happening here is that Gus is handing over the laminated sheet of genius for Chad to pick plays from, I want to start getting into Lacrosse or Australian Rules Football or some other sport so I won't have to lose the remaining 12 hairs I have on my head in utter frustration at another poorly executed, back shoulder throw to Seth Williams down the sideline.

TWill will be our next Defensive Coordinator...you heard it here first.

I don’t want to predict anything.

But?  The offense will regress. The fuck is clustered.

That is all.

Listen to him, he's pre-med.

Obviously, the Piggies were an abomination under Morris.  No way they had the talent to match up in the SEC.  But, the one thing I did notice, and commented on the week of our match up with them, was the use of the TE, especially Cheyenne O'Grady.  Guy was a big target and good athlete.  He had over 30 catches on the season, which isn't astronomical by any means, but opens up some things in your offense.  If you have a TE getting at least 2 to 3 catches a game, the D has to account for him.  In our offense, that possibility is all but eliminated.

Simple observation, but how much better was our overall offense when guys like Lutz and Uzomah were a consistent option?  I don't know if you can attribute the decline to it, but the fact is, our numbers have declined each and every year since we went to the dreaded H-Back.

Got to have parameters.

The question is, regress from what?

This offense was not good at all last season.  They made hay against Kent State, Samford, MSU and Arky.  Against good defenses, they were downright awful.  They had zero chance offensively against Florida, LSU and Georgia and only managed 20 points against the Rebel Black Bears. 24 large against Tulane and Minnesota made them look silly most of the day.

The question is, regress from what?

From last season's statistical marks, in my opinion:

Total Offense
Scoring Offense
RYPG
PYPG

It's all going to be one giant Chad-shaped step backwards.

*note: I'm happy to be proven wrong about this, but skeptical to the highest degree.

Simple mistake.

Should have gone with the more common: Morris.

In.

Do we limit it to SEC games only? I’m good either way

Seems simplistic as a measuring stick, but sure.  I'm in for $50.  The Auburn offense will post fewer total yards in 2020 than it did in 2019.

I wish we could put a little qualifier on it.  Such as, if Morris gets to tweak the offense and put in some of his stuff, I'd say more yards.  If he's just holding the laminated sheet of jeenyus, I ain't wastin' a perfectly good $50 spot.

Double or nothing on whether the twirlybird makes it's return this season?

Well what would you like to use? You are both saying the offense is going to regress.  We were 64th in Total Offensive yards avg of 406.8ypg in Scoring we were 29th at 33.2ppg define your definition of regress...we can also use number of games we win.

I already have a bet with Snaggle that we win 7 games or more.  You two are the biggest downers on Morris after dude hadn't even set foot on the field.  All I'm saying is we finally have a dedicated OC for the first time in Gus's tenure, and he has a track record of being a good OC.  We may not be anything but the same but the sky isn't falling and we won't regress.

You want to split the bet? Parlay? $25 for Total Offense and $25 for Scoring?  if we are above Avg of 406.8ypg but below 33.2ppg at the end of the season it's a push?

This betting is weak. Sorry.

I will offer to be the go between in a bet between gf and kaos but let’s make it 2500 to make it at least a little more interesting. I will only charge a 7% vig since you’re both stand up guys.

I will also side bet k 1500 that AU will improve total yards for season and at the same discounted vig.

Not only that but I will side bet GF 1500 as well that AU will NOT improve in total yards for the same 7%. Because I like you both so much. And losing money ain’t shit, when it’s creating a good time for all. I’m willing to make it rain.

All in fun. Payout is contingent on all bets being paid day after season stats are tallied. If someone does not pay up, they have to motorboat the other parties bung hole, 3 times in a week.

But, if you are scared to take the bets, I can understand. Would no doubt prove that you are a huge pussy, though.

BTW, my $50 will be in the form of two shares of AUFamily stock I've held onto for years.  Originally paid $4 a share, by now i'm sure it's worth at least a kabillion and a half dollars.
