Give Jason Isbell a try Token

To each his own.  But that’s just terrible.  Hideous even.
I’d rather listen to New Kids on the Block fart the Japanese alphabet backward than have to listen to that.  Don’t (in reality) begrudge anybody whatever they like musically but I simply cannot understand the allure of that.

Okay, I'm overall kind of meh on Isbell.  Like some of his stuff.  Not of fan of a lot of it.  But...

"I’d rather listen to New Kids on the Block fart the Japanese alphabet backward"

Now THAT'S gold, Jerry.  Gold I tell ya'.

Mac Miller dead at 26.  Some of you may be very familiar with his work.  My knowledge of the guy was a couple of appearances on Ridiculousness.  Love that show.  He seemed cool, funny...great guest on the show.  I just saw where he died today at 26.  I decided to pull up some of his stuff.  I'm 58.  I don't know good rap, hippity hop from shit.  I just know what sounds/feels good to me.  A few of his tracks were pretty damn good.  But one thing I noticed was all his youtubez had 10's of millions of views.  "Donald Trump", some of the lyrics below, had almost 150 million.  He must have done something right.  Anyway, just thought I'd share.

Ay yo, the fliest muthafucka' in the room
Yeah, you know it's me
Bitches hating on him, cause he started out here locally
Hopefully, I'll be at the top soon
For now, I'm at my house on the couch, watching cartoons
You know how much you love it when you get it in abundance
Give a fuck about a budget
When you always be the subject of discussion
But it's nothing when you stop and just say fuck it
Cause you walking out in public and you hear 'em talkin' rubbish
I just wanna ride, ride through the city in a Cutlass
Find a big butt bitch, somewhere get my nuts kissed
That's the way it goes when you party just like I do
Bitches on my dick that used to brush me off in high school
Take over the world when I'm on my Donald Trump shit
Look at all this money, ain't that some shit
Take over the world when I'm on my Donald Trump shit
Look at all this money, ain't that some shit.

If it's rap you're into look no further than Eminem's Kamikaze. Shows 'em all who's boss...and at 46.

I'm a month from turning 60 and can't stand rap or hip hop.

Run the Jewels have a track that plays over the closing credits of Venom.

It's predictably good.

Unlike the movie, Venom, or the Eminem track.

Don't know if you caught "The Evolution of Hip Hop" on Netflix, but it was a great documentary that, for once, didn't lionize Sugarhill Gang as innovators.

Anywho...the series won a Peabody.  Congrats to my boy, Shad, who hosted the doc and shared in the award.

Season 2 of this series was recently released.  Amazing archival footage and interviews.  The Oakland episode was phenomenal.  For some reason I thought Digital Underground was an east coast project.

Saw Atmosphere at Vinyl Music Hall in P'cola tonight.  Got-DAMN what a show.

Nods to the newer material (Sean made a few jokes about the label getting pissed off if the crowd posted video of him doing old songs rather than the new stuff...he owns the label) but they went DEEEEEEEP into the old stuff.  Off the top of my head, we got:

God's Bathroom Floor
Reflections
Guns n' Cigarettes
Fuck You Lucy
Always Coming Back Home to You
Modern Man's Hustle
God Loves Ugly
Lovelife

Middle-Aged stuff:
Say Hey There
The Best Day
Puppets
Yesterday
The Waitress
Sunshine

Newer Stuff:
Kanye West
Camera Thief
Drown
Graffiti

It was a really great performance in a very small venue.  The pleasant surprise of the evening was the opener, Dem Atlas.  Strong raps over Ant (of Atmosphere) beats combined with a bit of soulful wailing and more than a little emphatic yelling.  He kind of looks and croons like Terrence Trent D'arby, but raps like a beast.  HIGHLY recommended.
