Recruiting and Eligibility Report (Long, but Informative)
« on: February 15, 2008, 04:31:19 PM »
Ok. We are about a 2 weeks away from the start of spring practice. Here is a breakdown of who is on campus, how the numbers of each class breakdown, total scholarship numbers, etc. For the sake of simplicity, only scholarship players are included.

TFR=02
RFR=08
SO=27
JR=15
SR=11
TOTAL: 63

So that means we have 22 scholarships left for people to report in the Summer/Fall. (85-63=22 for the mathematically challenged among you.) Also notice the extremely large sophomore class. This is a product of the huge amount of true freshman we played this year vs. the incredibly small amount that played the year before. This will create an interesting by-product in recruiting down the road, which will be discussed later.

Here is our list of people who are committed, were once committed, or are enrolled:

Quote
2008 Recruits:
Commits:
QB:   Chris Todd      Enrolled
   Deron Furr      Enrolled
   Barrett Trotter      LOI
RB:   Eric Smith      LOI
   Reggie Hunt (q)   LOI
   Enrique Davis              Mississippi
   Onterrio McCaleb   JUCO
WR:   Derek Winter      LOI
   Darvin Adams      LOI
   Damion Allen      JUCO
   Harry Adams   (q)   LOI
   Phillip-Pierre Louis   LOI
   Jamarn Fortson        Florida State
TE:   Dax Dellenbach   LOI
   Ken Adams      JUCO
   Vance Smith      LOI
OL:   Jermaine Johnson (q) LOI
DL:    Cameron Henderson (q) LOI
   Jomarcus Savage   LOI
   Andre Wadley    (q)   LOI
   Freddie Smooth   LOI
   Derrick Lykes    (q)   LOI
   Raven Gray      Enrolled
LB:   Spencer Pybus      LOI
   Deshaun Barnes   Enrolled
CB:   D’Antoine Hood   LOI
   Drew Cole      LOI
   George Baker           South Florida
S:   Neiko Lipscomb (q)  LOI
   Brandon Smith   JUCO
   Christian Thompson (q) LOI
   Marcus Jemison   LOI
   T’Sharvan Bell   LOI

Total: 30
Enrolled: 4
LOI: 22
JUCO: 4

Kids with the "q" by their name means that they are the most questionable to qualify. I think we can expect to get about half of them in.

As you can see, we have 4 guys who we know are JUCO bound barring a miracle. That leaves 22 guys that have a legitimate shot at qualifying who are not already enrolled at Auburn.
If by some unforeseen event, we manage to get all 22 people who have qualifying, we will have used every scholarship available to us.

If you look at the class breakdown, you will see that we will only be losing 11 players after this year. Which if we qualified everybody from this class that has a chance, we would only be able to offer 11 scholarships next year if we didn't have any attrition.Going by the common rule of you can get half of the guys in that have questions about their qualifying, we will bring in 18 more this year. 63+18=81

That leaves us with 15 spots to offer next year. There is no way we are only going to bring in 15 people next year, which means that you should look for quite a bit of attrition after this upcoming season. If you look at the class breakdown, it is obvious that the sophomore class is the one who will probably be losing the most players. Specifically, the RS Sophomores. Look for the RS Sophomores that are still buried on the depth chart after this next season is complete. Those are the guys that we could be losing to open up some scholarships for next year. Obviously, how many guys we lose, should be proportional to the amount of question marks we can get in this class.

Man...you've got some time on your hands.

I'd comment substantively, but I don't know what to think except that we have a young team and some motherfuckers better step up or lose their spots.

Life can really kick your ass.  I only have a vague recollection of when it wasn't kickin' mine.
