Tim Allen said he regrets letting the writers of Home Improvement letting Tim Taylor fall into that category. Watching in live, not sure I noticed. But looking back now, im not sure he was wrong.

His whole character's schtick was mouth-breathing clod who needed his wife and neighbor to bail him out.

You can keep a wooden stake in your trunk
On the off-chance that the fairy tales ain't bunk
And Imma keep a bottle of that funk
To get motel parking lot, balcony crunk.

right, thats all im saying, they really played up his ineptness more than I realized at the time. While the wife tended to be the level headed one that was always there and always right. Was it deliberate? I don't know. But some seem to think so including Allen. He also used cocaine a time or two during filming so....

Well, sorry 'ol Tim got mega-rich playing that dumbshit character, but I've got no time for his bemoaning of some imagined loss of masculinity while he participated.

Key word.

It isn't "imagined."   It's real.

I give ole Timmy the benefit of the doubt here too....he worked with the writers, he did all the run throughs and read outs , he was behind the scenes. If hes had an epiphany of sorts that "it all makes sense now", I'll take his word for it. But I do think it makes sense looking back on it. Even though I enjoyed the show.
