I did not know that before Tom Hanks was selected to play Forrest Gump, the part was turned down by John Travolta (Wanted to focus on Pulp Fiction) Bill Murray and Chevy Chase.

Would we know anything about this movie had any of them taken the role?  Interesting.

No offense to travolta but he’s not in the same stratosphere as hanks in acting ability. I like him in certain roles and movies but hanks in his prime could damn near play anyone.

Could he play a repeat visitor to Epstein Island?

It's true plus Hanks had that boyish innocence about him from earlier roles.

I know I've talked about this before with Caddyshack.  But it's funny to try and picture the "what if's" with regard to certain characters. Don Rickles was originally considered for Dangerfield's, Al Czervik.  I'm older, and grew up with Rickles being one of the top comedians of his time.  They were spot on in trying to cast him for that role, because Rickles' whole schtick was Czervik X 10.

Not even remotely trying to say he would have played the role better than Rodney.  Not at all. RD was the man.  Just that I don't think the movie would be thought of in any different light had Rickles played it.
Disagree only because the chemistry between Knight and Rodney was perfect; impulsive wealthy cad to shallow old money snob. Plus Rodney has those unique facial expressions along with a sort of goofy stiffness where he could at once burst into the jitterbug on a dancefloor-like Curly dead legging and then breaking into a waltz.

Additionally, the understated one liner insults by Chase are far funnier when directed at an aloof or simple minded character rather than an in your face insult machine like Rickles.

So in the case of Rodney v. Don  I say less is more.

I’m certain I don’t agree with a lot
of Hanks’ views but the theory he was running with Epstein grew legs out of thin air from qanon. He’s never been on any flight logs that anyone has seen either. Lin Wood ran with that stuff erroneously-  But quite a few others are on those logs. Most notably Bill Gates.

One of the I did not know's that I'll  get face palmed for. Just saw a reunion picture of guys that were in the Terminator flicks. Obviously, they were much, much older, and the only one I could really recognize was Robert Patrick, because he has such a distinctive look. Arnold was not in the photo.

Anyway, I looked up a couple of the names so I could put a face with it, one of which was Michael Biehn.  Okay, he was the Kyle Reese, Resistance Soldier dude, come back from the future to save the world.  Now, I see the look 40 years later. Don't think I knew, or cared who he was in real life, but why does that name sound so familiar? So, being curious, and bi, I scrolled his bio. I love getting my bio scrolled. Say wut?

Johnny Freakin' Ringo

And then I thought, I know Tombstone sensationalized the lives of some real old west legends, but how far off did they stray?  From the wiki's (So you know it's all true)

John Peters Ringo (May 3, 1850 – July 13, 1882), known as Johnny Ringo, was an American Old West outlaw loosely associated with the Cochise County Cowboys in frontier boomtown Tombstone, Arizona Territory. He took part in the Mason County War in Texas during which he committed his first murder. He was arrested and charged with murder.[1] He was affiliated with Cochise County Sheriff Johnny Behan, Ike Clanton, and Frank Stilwell during 1881–1882. He got into a confrontation in Tombstone with Doc Holliday and was suspected by Wyatt Earp of having taken part in the attempted murder of Virgil Earp and the ambush and death of Morgan Earp. Ringo was found dead with a bullet wound to his temple which was ruled a suicide. Modern writers have advanced various theories attributing his death to Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Frank Leslie or Michael O'Rourke.

Tombstone

Fantastic cast including a bronzed, leering Lowell from Wings. Like most of them in many other things.  But tombstone?

Terrible, awful, horrible movie.  The acting (aka overacting) was Telenova or high class porn level.

I’d never seen it until the other night.  Once was more than enough.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

It's not supposed to be some epic masterpiece. Its entertaining. It did its job and has its place in cinema history.

So did Debbie Does Dallas.

Don’t need to watch that again either.

I was expecting great cinema, such buildup, and was roundly disappointed. I didn’t know it was a comedy.

I did not know....realize....how old I've become.

Saw a thing on the bookfaces wishing Scott Glenn a happy 85th birthday.  1980 was the year Urban Cowboy came out.  Loved the movie, despite how cheesy it was for Travolta to make that futile attempt to pull off a "country" accent.  Definitely on par with Nicolas Cage butchering that southern gentleman dialect in Con Air. Put the bunny back in the box.

Anyway, Glenn played Wes Hightower, the total bad ass antagonist to Travolta's, "Bud Davis." He didn't have many lines in the movie, but he did tell Sissy to "Pack your shit."

I know, I know.  It's Urban Cowboy.  Spare me.  But I liked it, and Scott Glenn being 85 hurts my heart.  I'm old.
