The SEC Championship is ours for the taking, staring tonight with Miss. State on the road.  This team lives and dies by its guard play, which has been sorely lacking the last couple of weeks.  Time to get that mojo back for the last two games and take that trophy home.

Maybe now they can relax.  Get back to having fun.

Last few weeks they’ve been playing like the weight of the world is on their shoulders.  Pressing.  Like it’s a chore.

SeC title is in the rear view now.

Last road game of the season too...until the selection committee creates one for them anyway.

Co-SEC Champs at worst.  We will NOT lose Saturday at home for the outright crown.  Rant:

I had a meeting last night (With some blackened shrimp, a twice baked potato and a couple of bourbon and DCP's) so I didn't get home to turn the game on until about 11 minutes to go.  I saw one bucket from a guard, two turnovers in a row and a horribly missed shot from Flanigan, and Cambridge miss his 330th 3-point shot this year.  And at the end of regulation, I watched Bruce Pearl contort his body in a way that allowed him to stick his head up his own ass...again.

I love Bruce Pearl.  Best thing that ever happened to Auburn basketball, and maybe Auburn athletics in general.  But sometimes, the man frustrates me more than when I can't find that one transgender porn clip on pornhub.....wait.....what?  I mean, basketball.  Yeah.

If you go back in this thread, you'll find where I was bitching about the same thing.  End of regulation.  Auburn has the ball with the chance to take the last shot and win it.  You have arguably the best player in the nation.  A 6'10", top 3 NBA Lottery pick who can shoot over anybody in the country.  You call a time out and set up a play to get him the ball in a good position.....right?  Obviously.  Nope.  Not Bruce Pearl.  Never!!!  Play on.

Helter skelter, pandemonium ensues.  Yeah, Jabari eventually gets the ball, only because Wendell Green, Jr. unbelievably couldn't find a way to shit all over himself.  But he gets it with 2 seconds on the clock, 100 feet from the basket with 2 guys in his face. Overtime.

There was no play run for Jabari because Bruce Pearl has no plays for Jabari.  Play on.  Maybe you can find Cambridge in the corner for another 3.

Fortunately, the light came on in overtime for the guards and we saw what this team is capable of when the guards do guard things on both ends of the floor. Scored 21 points in the second half.  Scored 20 in 5 minutes of overtime.

I have been rooting for Flanigan to make it back from his Achilles tear harder than most, because I feel his pain.  He's just more of a liability out there though it seems.  Every time he tries to make a move to the basket he almost falls over and his 3 point shot has as much touch as a bull in a china shop.

What we saw in the OT might be Auburn's best chance to make a deep run in the tourneys...playing 3 guards.  Let KD do KD things.

Either 3 guards or move Jabari up to the 3, Williams or Cardwell at the 4 and Kessler at the 5.

So, did you rupture your Ah-Kill-Eez?  I've known a couple of peeps who did and that seems to be some nasty stuff.

Yep, Flanigan has lost it in all aspects of the game.  Punt, pass & kick.  Which actually, that looks like what he's doing every time he touches the ball.  It looks like his confidence level is at negative eleventeen.

Completely ruptured a month after my 40th birthday.  Sounded like somebody shot me.

And yes, he might be better off punting.

This is not in the same universe as a torn achilles, but I recall my very last game in a team sport.  Volleyball.  Yes, I know, you see the freakishly athletic body (Pillsbury Dough Boy) and think I would be far better suited for the NFL or NBA, (Golf) but I'm kind of an all-around athlete(Couch Potato).  I planted to make my usual 5-6 foot jump (3.5") at the net for another highlight reel spike,(Get roofed as usual) and stopped in my tracks.  I turned around, mad as hell and wondering why would somebody hit me in the calf with a baseball.  In a volleyball game, no less.

There was no one over there. Uh-oh!  This was rec league and the team we were playing was from a local hospital.  A couple of them came over and said, "Yep, you tore your calf."

Again, thankfully my superior athleticism(I moonlight doing "Before" photo shoots) allowed me to hop on one leg all the way from the gym out to my car. (They happened to have a wheelchair handy)

How did you pop your tendon?

Crazy enough, I was playing C league slow pitch softball, in left field.  Looping line drive came along and I backpeddled a little to catch it.  The left field fence is about a foot from our junior high gym (brick building).  Almost as soon as I caught the ball I hear what I thought was a gunshot.  Caught it, looked around to see what the hell that was, took my first step in and immediately fell over.  The orthopedic surgeon told me afterward that it was like trying to sew a mop head together there were so many strands loose.

That was at the end of September 2010 and I wasn't able to make a game until the Georgia game that November.  Started back playing ball again the next May but it was a couple years before I felt right playing again.

I submit to you the proposition that Bruce Pearl is now the greatest coach in Auburn athletic history.

He's elevated Auburn basketball to a level that's virtually inconceivable when you consider where it was when he arrived.  What he's done for Auburn basketball is similar to what Pat Dye did for Auburn football. Except Auburn football wasn't lying at the bottom of a decades old barrel, rotting away in a hopeless, helpless mire.  Auburn football had tradition and history.  Auburn basketball did not.  That's being created right now, in front of our eyes.

- Auburn now has as many SEC regular season titles under Bruce Pearl as it had in its entire history before him.
- This is the fourth 25+ win season since Pearl became head coach. Prior to Pearl, Auburn had one (one) season of 25 or more wins.

- This is the third season under Pearl that AU will lose fewer than 10 games. Prior? Once since 1990.  Before that you have to go back to Joel Eaves and the 20-game schedules to find more.

- Pearl has a winning record in the SEC in four of the last five seasons.  A 10-6 SEC record in 08-09 under Lebo, a 9-7 record in 99-00 and a 14-2 in 98-99 under Cliff Ellis are the only other winning SEC records in 30 years.  Sonny Smith had three total 11-7 in 87-88, 13-5 in 85-86 and and 12-6 in 83-84.  Joel Eaves only had four total winning SEC seasons in the 60s.  Pearl tied that this season.

I know it's easy to grow jaded and spoiled by success.  But I'm telling you, sirs and madams (you know who you are), we are witness to the greatest period in Auburn basketball history.  Savor it.

Lifetime contract is nice, but we better honor the man.  I want my grandkid's grandkids to know his name, the same way I knew Cliff Hare.  I want them to revere it the way I did the names Joel Eaves and Ralph Jordan without really even knowing who they were.
