Enterprise: They'll F- you up.

Why bother reserving a car?  Why?

My truck is in the shop.  I had to rent a car for a few days.  Scheduled it ahead of time, went to the Enterprise site, picked out what I needed to drive.  I have to carry a few things around this week for some stuff I'm doing so I chose something that would handle it.

Arrive at Enterprise at my appointed time.

"Yeah, we're a little low on inventory.  All we've got is what's out front."

Oh, you mean that golf cart?

"It's a little small, I know, but we don't have anything else.  It's a Nissan Versa."

It's a golf cart.  I reserved something different and paid up front.

"Yeah, well we just don't have that now.  I mean one could come back in sometime later and maybe we could do a swap or something, but that's what we have."

So I reserved and paid for one thing, but you're giving me a golf cart instead?

"Yeah.  Or you can come back later and see what we have."

I was dropped off here by the dealership because I was picking up the vehicle I reserved.  I don't have any way to go anywhere else.

"Well, you could call somebody to come get you, or maybe borrow their car or something and see if we get anything in later, but for now all we have is the Versa and I've got some other people waiting if you don't want it."

So, basically, if I'd come in 15 minutes later you wouldn't even have the golf cart?

"Pretty much."

Shit. Give me the keys to that piece of crap.  But I'm going to need an adjustment on the fees.

"Oh, we can't do that until after.  I can try to get you a refund when you turn it in, and they'll put it back on your card within 30 days if we can get that done.  Thanks for doing business with Enterprise!"

I've got half a mind to drive this thing out in the middle of nowhere and leave it.  Tell them I don't know what happened to it.

You can't get a rental car anywhere right now.  A banker I work with had to take out a UHaul moving van because Tampa Int'l was out of rental cars.

On the off-chance that the fairy tales ain't bunk
And Imma keep a bottle of that funk

Which is fine. But it’s a shit system they have when they can rent you a car they don’t even have and take your money. And can’t refund it back.

when I have a spare 20 mins at my keyboard....I’ll add to this thread the story of me almost beating the enterprise guys ass in Panama City beach 2 years ago across from edgewater. I may or may not have had a 1/5 of rum in me. But I was still right.  Good times.

For the record, a Nissan Versus is a piece of shit tin can.

If you have one I apologize for my disdain.  It is without hesitation one of the worst things I've ever driven.  And there was a time in my "trying to get there" past that I drove a 1978 Buick Regal with a sagging headliner and a driver's door that was so bashed in you had to crawl through the window to get in the car.

I'm not a terribly brand centric person. Ive always found it kind of cultish and tribal, and the ultimate side effect of American Commercialism and over-Marketing. I just do what works for me. You do you. Blah blah blah.

But Nissan now has the lowest resale value across the board of any car brand. They have the lowest reliability of any car brand now. And I could honestly careless - I don't really favor brands but the things I've read and heard about the newer model Nissans is troubling (2014 and up). I was at the local dealership last summer (the Nissan place is next door to several other ones on a big 50 acre complex) getting the wife's little Cherrrrmun (aka German) car serviced. I walked over to the back of the Nissan service bay and started talking to a couple of the techs over there. I couldn't believe what was coming out of their mouths about how horrible their own cars were. They specifically pointed towards something in most of their Altimas and Versas the last 10 years - the CVT (cont variable transmission). It has MAJOR MAJOR issues.  And that was just one thing the engine techs told me....they went on and on about how cheap the cars were now and how Nissan was losing its ass in sales and resale value compared to Honda especially and how none of the service techs ever wanted to stay there long because of all the issues - that they were always looking to jump ship to the other dealerships in town to avoid the nightmare that is Nissan now.

One quick look on the GoreWebbz when I got home that day backed up what they were saying. In fact, lawsuits from Snags and Wes out the ying yang over this whole ordeal, CVT, untested known defects, cheap materials, sales, you name it. Used to be a decent car brand too. Never would have thought 20 years ago that Hyundai and Kia would be more highly thought of than Nissan.

I rented a Nissan Sentra 2-3 years ago and then a Toyota Corolla about 6 months later for a work trip.....both compact little tin cans but just on the eye test, that Yoda was just a more solid, well built, better driving car.

And yes, you'll always find the "well I dun had bout 2-3 of them nissuns and they aint gave me a lick-a-trubble...them thangs'll run furever, so I'm callin BS on thayt ole CVT or whutevar it is non cents you talkin bout"

Nissan started tanking when they started that shit of only being able to buy Nissan parts.  There were no aftermarket parts.  Only theirs.  Like most things it started out with the noble idea of keeping control of their manufacturing but it has spiraled into exactly the opposite.

Hate to hear that shit about Enterprise.  I don't rent much anymore but they were always my go to and I had really good service with them.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I may talk a lot of smack behind your back about you but I have always considered you the smartest guy on here. Other than Wes, of course. But to drive all the way to Enterprise for a rental car is fucking dumb.
