Southwest Airlines says it is “fully addressing†a pilot’s recent hot mic incident over the Bay Area in which he lamented its population of “liberal f—s.â€A spokesperson for the company first confirmed the pilot’s employment Thursday when contacted by the San Francisco Gate.“F— this place, god— liberal f—s,†the pilot said in audio recorded March 12 by ATC, a website that livestreams air traffic control audio transmissions.“Our corporate culture is built on a tenet of treating others with concern and dignity and the comments are inconsistent with the professional behavior and overall respect that we require from our Employees,†a spokesman told the newspaper in an exclusive statement. “This situation was an isolated incident involving a single Employee and not representative of the nearly 60,000 hardworking, respectful People of Southwest Airlines.â€The pilot also went on to lament “F—ing weirdos, probably driving around in f—ing Hyundais, f—ing roads and s—t that go slow as f—.â€The FAA is also investigating the incident, which took place while the pilot was taxing at Mineta San Jose International Airport.“FAA regulations prohibit airline pilots from talking about subjects that are unrelated to safely conducting their flight while taxiing and while flying below 10,000 feet altitude,†FAA spokesperson Ian Gregor wrote, the newspaper added.
