To Those That Choose NOT To Vote....

Utopia, or a Utopian candidate is an ideal, not a viable or possible option.

Vote = Your voice in government, whether that means working towards sending someone to represent you that shares your views, or keeping one that doesn't out.  It's your voice in a democracy that was earned in blood of those that are fighting, and those that fought and died for it.  Pitching it aside as a trashable option to prove a point is shallow and proves nothing to nobody, and accomplishes nothing.

Get OUT AND VOTE!

At the risk of sounding like the choir I could not agree with you more AC1.  Get out and vote today, X'ers, if you have not done so already!  Sitting the election out should not be an option.

Why should people settle for someone they do not like, because they dislike another candidate more? Or because they are scared?  People died for this country so that protestor's can burn flags if they choose, or so that people can refuse to vote if they do not like either candidate/the two party system, and so that people like you can throw out words like trash able in reference to other's opinions and voice.  It does prove something, it proves that people are sick of the system and sick of the choices given to them.

Even people that are burning flags, or protesting, are doing something about their cause and therefore bring attention to their message.

Go ahead Taylor, pull the "chopper's just being uptight" card.  Fucking weak.

You could have just said you didn't have the time, or desire to vote this time around, but you chose to take the stance that somehow the system is a failure and how nobody represents you.

I'm not sitting this one out just because some fucking idiots in my party nominated John McCain as my party's candidate.  Yeah you have the right to sit on your ass and not vote but it is a civic responsibility to do so in my opinion.

I didn't "feel" like voting for McCain but I did not "feel" like letting The Obama win without a fight.  I might go down with the sinking ship but at least I did what I knew to be the correct thing to do.  And I can bitch about The Obama and the democrats socialists in good conscience because I didn't vote for any of the bastards.

I also didn't "feel" like pointing out a voting irregularity but I knew what I observed was against the law and that it should be corrected so I did my civic responsibility again (see "So there I was at the Polling Place...").

I seem to hear every election cycle that "this election is the most important election in our history".  The truth is that every election is important.

I mean nothing personal because I don't know you so don't take my criticism that way but get out and vote; AC1 is right; and you don't have to vote for a presidential candidate at all but you can vote down-ticket for local folk.

I voted for Bob Barr.

I reserve the right to bitch no matter who wins (cause I know it ain't gonna be him).

My justification falls in line with what Taylor was saying. My vote went to building the Libertarian party as a viable third party, which to me was more important than voting for a douche or a turd sandwich. Aside from that, even if I WERE voting for the lesser of two evils, I think we're pretty safe that Alabama's electoral votes are going to McCain anyway.

I lined up 47 people to write my name in hoping that I would get just enough votes to make the newspaper. I am not voting for myself, however.  It wouldn't be right.

I could have put you over the top.

It's one of those things that's been building for a while.  Back when it was Clinton and Daddy Bush (1988) I kept bitching about how we had no viable candidates. In protest and in response to my continued ranting, a couple of friends wrote me in as a joke.  Since then it's expanded a little.  I've gotten write in votes in pretty much every campaign since. Governor, judges, senators, representatives, you name it.  I get lots of love in the races where nobody has any idea who the people are to begin with. PSC Place #1: Clark Morganus or Sallie Beth Fausek. WHO? Screw that, I'm writing in Kaos.

Thank you for your support.

The bolded sentences directly contradict each other.

(he hasn't said publicly that he actually voted yet......)

Cool deal on the Bob Barr vote.... I can respect that.  Do you listen to Brian & The Judge on Fox News Radio ever? (The Judge, Judge Andrew Napolitano is a stout Libertarian)

Interesting views.

Ironically that is exactly what I think about Bob Barr; he used to be my Congressman here in Georgia...and he was steaming pile of shit back then; but I have a personal bias against him.

At least you voted.  And, like AC1, I can respect that (despite my low opinion of third party candidates).

How? Regardless of whether or not Taylor voted, my reason for voting for Bob Barr fell in line with...
Quote

You can passively act on not feeling represented by either candidate in the two major parties like Taylor apparently chose to do by not voting, or you can actively respond by voting for the candidate who represents you best, even if you know they have less of a chance of winning than Auburn has of winning a National Championship this year.

I recall the 1992 Presidential election well and still hold a grudge against third-party candidates; because Ross Perot ran that year we got stuck with Bubba Clinton.
