I'm afraid so...better enjoy it this year.

Unless, of course, we can get Gus to coach him up.
But then we'd be playing in the NIT, if we were lucky.

We might get 2 years out of him, I don't think he is NBA ready yet, but that might change by the end of the year.  Definitely not more than 2 though.

What a fun team to watch. We've all criticized Wiley but he is truly a silent assassin. He doesn't get enough credit for what he does. He balled tonight. Poor 3 point and free throws. Power inside and tenacious d. Wait. That sounds like a band.

That was a can of defensive whoop ass on a team that isn't terrible.  Listening to the announcers whine about NMS playing out of control and wasting possessions got a little tiresome.  Many of those wasted possessions were a direct result of defensive hustle disrupting their flow.

Hard to find much to criticize.  Went through a first-half stretch of flinging bricks, airballs and botched shots in the lane but settled down and fixed it.

I could be wrong, but I think this might be a better team overall than last year.  Talent seems evenly distributed.  I'm not saying its going to win the SEC, make the Final Four or win the NC but based on what I've seen so far I wouldn't say any of those things are completely out of the realm of possibility.

BTW?  I'm sitting here in utter amazement that the prior paragraph was written about the Auburn basketball program.

The preseason thought was that it would be hard to replace the offensive barrage of Harper and Brown but so far this lineup isn't taking us though those awful cold spells requiring 6 threes and balls to the wall pressing defense to get us back in a game.

Was concerned early on about our bench play but Coach Pearl knows when to get the right guys in and it doesn't feel as if we are losing production. That factors into lessening those scoring lulls and imo this looks like a better overall defensive team than last season.

And yes I was critical of Wiley but he has since been proving me wrong and  hope he will continue to do so.

Seems like I read somewhere (not al.com, they barely covered the game in order to breathlessly tell us all what Tinkle Tupperblowgovia will be doing during Saturday's game and how Danny Sheridan was right in saying Auburn football sucks...) BUT to get back to the topic, I read somewhere that this is the first regular season tournament title for AU since 2004.

I don't know what tournament that was, but the 2004-05 team started 5-0 before losing to Virginia, Wofford, UNLV and Toledo. It lost its first five SEC games and won a grand total of four in the league.

I don't see this bunch flopping like that.

Build the Bruce Pearl statue today.

Just a note on that 2004 team.  This was Jeff Lebo's first year.  There was one player in the rotation, Quinnel Brown, who was 6'6".  Everyone else who played that year was 6'4" and under.  They had one legit player, Tony Douglas, a guard who averaged about 17 points a game.  He immediately transferred out to, I believe, FSU.

The sad thing is that as bad as this team was, they could have actually propelled Auburn basketball towards some great things.  If you recall, when Ellis was let go and Lebo announced, they had an exodus of key players that pretty much decimated the program.  6'8" man child, Marco Killingsworth, left to go start for Indiana.  6'9" Dwayne Curtis departed for Ole Miss and was their starting center and played quite well.  6'8" Brandon Robinson took off for parts unknown.  There were a couple of others I believe as well.

Tony Douglas and the rest of that bunch weren't bad players.  They were just way overmatched physically every time the they stepped on the court.  I don't know if it was Cliff getting the boot or Lebo's magnetic personality that caused the defections.  Either way, they went from possible SEC title contenders to perennial doormats in the blink of an eye.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I haven't watched any of their games, but in perusing the scores of our SEC brethren it looks like we ought to waltz through most of the season.
