Remember the Alamos

Watching Ministry of Evil on Sundance.  It's the story of Tony and Susan Alamo (fake names) who conned their way to a religious empire/cult that swindled millions of dollars from thousands of people.

It astounds me how anyone could look at those two smarmy weasels and honestly believe they represent the will of God.  Same thing with Jim Jones and other cult leaders.

I'm too cynical, I suppose, for the kind of hokum they spun to work on me.

It's also amazing how people will continue to follow them even when it becomes readily apparent that they're losing their grip on reality.  When the evil shrew Suzie died this loon Tony put her in the house for over a year days while he got people to pray for her resurrection.  He finally had to bury her when the decomposition got out of hand. Of course the body was eventually stolen.

This sort of stuff fascinates me.  It fascinates me how easily people can be duped.
