I didn't get to watch it all.
Trump is an awkward public speaker. There's no doubt there. Obama wasn't. He was glib and smooth. The difference is that for all his awkwardness, Trump is actually doing the things he talks about where Obama was merely paying self-serving lip service. Obama wanted to be liked. Trump really doesn't care.
Last night, Trump played to the audience a little bit, but I found his speech to be in line with his basic core values: 1) America first, last and always, 2) Distaste for the entire "political" process, results matter more than grandstanding, 3) Strengthen the economy, support the military/first responders and secure the borders.
I was happy with his affirmation that we'd never be a socialist country (much to the obvious and visible consternation of the creepy Aardvark and the bubble head Cortez). I would have liked for him to play up his (undeniable) successes even more than he did.
I thought it was a really good speech rooted in patriotism. It was positive, it was affirming, it was encouraging.
As for the democratic response? Big load of recycled turds. It was numbingly awful, focused on failure and laughable in its attempt to paint Trump's obvious victories as failures. It was, frankly, disgraceful.
