Using Rivals numbers because I'm too lazy to look around.
1) When Ole Miss is under scrutiny (see: Afraid to cheat), they become what they are. Class ranked 41st. Well below even Kentucky.
2) When Georgia feels empowered (see: Kirby thinks he can Saban-cheat) the Bulldogs build a strong class. The NCAA won't be far behind. And as always, the Dogs will squander the talent they have.
3) New hire in Texas didn't energize the Lowhorns. No five-star recruits. Ranked 31st. A couple of spots below Mississippi State. Yuck.
4) Alabama buys the best class on earth. Again. Every class is the best class in the history of recruiting and has been for years now. Every year. 25 total four and five star recruits. Nobody else is close. The total number of five star recruits signed by Alabama and Ohio State equal the combined total of five star recruits from the remaining schools in the Top Ten. That's ridiculous.
5) Ten of the top 25 ranked classes are SEC schools.
6) Auburn ranks sixth in the SEC, fourth in the West according to Rivals. With 21 recruits, AU has the second lowest number of signees in the Top 15. This seems to be a trend and one that puzzles me. Why always smaller classes?
7) The surprise of the day to me is LSU. Orgeron is an unknown commodity -- well, he's known for being the worst coach in SEC history, but I digress -- and the situation there seems to be unstable. Yet he kept most of the recruits home, with the exception of the Charger-induced Saban plucks, and finished with a stronger class than I expected. He won't be able to manage the program, but whoever follows him will have a nicely stocked cabinet.
