The Road to OmahaAUBURN, Ala. – Auburn baseball will play 36 home games in 2017 as part of a rigorous schedule head coach Butch Thompson announcedWednesday. “Excited to offer Auburn fans another 36 home games at Plainsman Park,†Thompson said. “They have been so supportive of our program and consistently rank in the top 25 in home attendance and we appreciate that. The home SEC portion of the schedule should also be very exciting for our fans with some really quality teams coming in. “I’m also looking forward to the opportunities that our regional fans will have to see our team. The extra game with Alabama in Montgomery is one of the best college baseball rivalry games in America. Our fans in Birmingham also get a chance to come watch us either at Samford or at the beautiful new Regions Field. Also, it’s always good to keep Georgia Tech on the schedule which creates a great opportunity for our huge alumni base in Atlanta to come support. We are really happy with how the schedule came together.†The Tigers play their first 17 games at home and don’t leave the borders of Alabama until game 22 at Georgia Tech on March 21. The meeting with Georgia Tech marks the third-straight season of a home-and-home matchup with the longtime rival that includes a return date at Plainsman Park on April 4. Auburn opens SEC play with Florida visiting Plainsman Park March 17-19. The Tigers also host South Carolina (March 31-April 2), Arkansas (April 21-23), Alabama (May 5-7) and Ole Miss (May 18-20) in home conference action. Road SEC weekends include trips to Georgia (March 24-26), Texas A&M (April 7-9), Tennessee (April 14-16), Mississippi State (April 28-30) and LSU (May 12-14). In non-conference action, George Washington (Feb. 17-19), Holy Cross (Feb. 24-26), Lipscomb (March 3-5) and Oakland (March 10-12) visit the Plains for the first four weekends of the season prior to SEC play. Additionally, Auburn will face Alabama in a non-conference matchup in the ninth annual MAX Capital City Classic in Montgomery on March 28. The Tigers will also meet UAB at Regions Field in Birmingham on March 14 before hosting the Blazers at Plainsman Park on May 9. The Tigers will square off with in-state opponents Jacksonville State (Feb. 21), Samford (Feb. 28 and April 11), South Alabama (March 7) and Troy (April 25) in midweek action. Other midweek matchups include Florida A&M (Feb. 22) and Kennesaw State (March 8). Game times will be announced at a later date. All dates are subject to change.
Just a negative Nancy comment. What an incredibly shootty non-conference schedule. GT and....nobody. Not to say AU is a powerhouse and will walk over Lipscomb and Oakland and Holy Cross etc. But....Lipscomb, Oakland and Holy Cross???
