Living in Birmingham questions

Living in Birmingham questions
« on: August 22, 2008, 10:12:56 PM »
1) Have any of you ever heard of The Madison at Shoal Run?  I'm thinking about getting an apartment there, but I haven't made a final decision.  The rent is only $650 per month and that includes water, sewer, and trash.  I don't want to pass up that deal unless somebody knows of serious safety issues.

2) How is traffic on HWY 119 coming from 280 towards Pelham (HWY 31)?  What about Hwy 11 going from 280 towards Pelham?

1)  You lost me at Shoal Run.  Rent is only $650 a month?  That is probably cheap for anything that has the word Shoal in the name.  You should not fear for your life.

2)  Any commute with the numbers 280, 119 and I-65S is going to suck and I don't mean that in a positive connotation.  In fact, just about any commute on the south side of I459 is going to suck in some manner.  Unless you atre planning on having an odd work schedule that gets you to the office before 7 or after 9 and leaving before 4 or after 6.  Just saying.  That area has grown way too fast and the infrastructure has not kept up.

$650 a month around 280 may have bullet hole in the walls, I would do some serious homework on that place.

Here is a review I found, just a pissed off tenant.
http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate/AL-Birmingham-Madison-at-Shoal-Run-753596.html

The place looks nice in this link
http://www.apartmentfinder.com/partners/mlc/details.aspx?aptid=102651

Yeah, it's a pretty nice place.  I looked up those reviews and got spooked.  However, just about every other apartment complex in Bham seems to have negative reviews on that website.  I'm guessing people only go there to post after they've been evicted or screwed.

I'm not necessarily worried about the quality of the apartment complex.  The rent is usually $830/month for a two bedroom/two bath.  I just so happened to show up the weekend of some big deal they had going on for move-ins in November.

I won't be concerned about it once I move in.  However, my fiance will be there by herself for almost a month while I rack up the last bit of change off of my parents.  Safety's my only concern, but a female living by herself anywhere is going to be worrisome.
