Halp! Phone problem
« on: July 17, 2013, 12:22:58 PM »
Have the Samsung Galaxy II, it's a little more than a year old.

Within the last 10 days or so, it's started acting up.  With ample battery life (>70%), the phone will occasionally shut down and show 0% battery life.  This only happens when I'm working in an app or browsing the web.  If i'm away from a power source, the phone is useless.

I went to see the Samsung rep at Best Buy and he updated my phone and checked to make sure I didn't have a wonky app that was causing the problem.  Still have the problem.

Do I need a new battery?  Is the phone kaput?

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

That's weird.  I have the Droid Razr with ICS 4.1.2 and the only trouble I have had out of mine was when I got drunk and pulled the back off looking for the SD card which tore the HD ribbon.  Going on about 18 months with phone and I love it.

Thus the unpredictable nature of a crappy product. But hey it's open source and plays flash right? Quality be damned. I always like a good mix of spaghetti code (17 versions of android), different hardware, different phone maker (Samsung, moto, htc), etc.....makes for a good stable product trusting the phone maker to actually put all that together most efficiently for performance. They put them together as cheap as possible to sell the most phones. People can say what they want about Apple with stupid rhetoric but their stuff is quality. Sure you can't tinker on their code but who cares. It's a damn phone. If you want to do that go buy a copy of redhat and have at it. Proprietary software runs the globe, including the fact that android is actually based off much of iOS user functionality.  Say it ain't so.

Never had anything unpredictable or unstable about it.  The phone is solid as hell and has held up just as good if not better than the wifes iPhone, which she replaced with a Droid on Monday.   I was looking for the SD card to t-fer pics to my PC.  I was shitfaced drunk and ripped the back off it b/c I didn't know what I was doing and tore the HD ribbon in the process.  Definitely not a phone error but a ID-10-T error.  Any other time I would have know that the SD card is in the SD slot on the side of the phone.  That is the only issue I have ever had with the phone and it was caused by yours truly.

Not saying iPhones aren't good phones but to dismiss the Droid b/c of one or two shitty ones is dumb.  I guess I should discount the 4s b/c of the shitty reception problems that Apple wasn't going to tell folks about.

Must be the most "user friendly" phone on the market if you can do that.  Can you take a picture with it as well?

Haven't quite got that one down.  I keep snapping the shot, but every time it turns out to be a close up of my face.  Trying to find the instruction manual right now.

I had android. You know this. I was on board.

It was garbage. Crashes, freezes, battery that seemed to do what it wanted when it wanted. Sure I'll give you that it's flexible and open source. It's short on quality. Apple does have limitations but it's solid. I've been in the IT field my whole career. I've written code. Hardly a sheeple i.e. with the wifis and the geebees. Which is exactly the rhetoric I'm talking about.

Apple just works and does a solid job. That's all I want from a smart phone. Maybe it is more for some people. But the purpose of my smart phone is not to play amateur computer programmer on. It's merely for function and it does that.

I can just as easily show you a shitload of fandroids who have no clue what they're saying but simply take the apple counterculture side.

Those with the biggest opinions on an OS have usually never done it. Buddy of mine is a fandroid. Works at a mill. Will argue with the wall about why android is the greatest thing since moon pies and the bible. Why? Cause it looks cool, has neat buttons, the text messages are "fasssst" (in Richard petty accent on BC commercials) and its got that danged innernet that lets ya get online with that ole 4g thingee. Seriously, who's the sheeple?

For the record, I like red hat. I like tinkering on it. That's a home computing thing. This isn't.

Point missed.
The point is not what the everyday person can or cannot do on it.
The point is what can someone who is capable of pushing boundaries do on it that will eventually benefit the masses.
I have no illusion that anything I come up for it will be Earth shattering, however I know there are items that others may come up with that can change the world and I want to support those people's ability to free think and invent.

But what more could a person want than a phone that looks cool, has neat buttons and the text messages are shityerpants fast?  Is there anything else?

True

Proprietary software runs the world.

Every bank, financial institution or related uses it. Personally I don't want just any idiot touching software.
