Sat in my office and cried like a baby.  No one out here could understand why his loss tore me up so much.  Some things you just cannot explain.

Here was my experience with Jim Fyffe:

Spring 2003 - Accepted into Auburn.

June 2003 - Camp War Eagle - Lots of talk about a guy named Jim dying.  I have no idea who he was.

Late August 2003 - It's announced that the opening football game will pay tribute to a guy named Jim
Fyffe.  Neighbor at The Commons breaks into tears when recalling a story about a radio show.

September 2003 - My first college football game ever.  Some fat male cheerleader with orange hair says that one side of the stadium will be touchdown and the other side will be Auburn.  I think the student section was the Auburn side.  It was to honor that guy named Jim who died doing his radio show.  Everyone around me was super stoked and drunk about how we were going to get to make the radio guy's touchdown call.

September 2003 - We don't score a touchdown the first two games of the season.

September 2003 - I wonder why the radio host named Jim cursed Auburn.

Sorry to all the old guys that are about to shake their canes at me.

I read his book and lol'd at so many stories.  There was one in particular where on the morning of game day, I believe it was against Florida State, Fyffe was having breakfast and sitting at a table next to him were two FSU assistant coaches.  They didn't know who he was and were talking about how they were going to blow everyone away with the very first play on offense, running some crazy double reverse or something.  Fyffe said as soon as breakfast was over, he went straight to the Auburn coaches and told what he overheard.  He was right.  They ran the play and Auburn stuffed it for a huge loss.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America ' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.' That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.'

I didn't realize how great he was until '93.  No TV, no tickets, only option you had was Fyffe.

You meet a man on the Oregon Trail. He tells you his name is Terry. You laugh and tell him: "That's a girl's name!" Terry shoots you. You have died of dissin' Terry.

Even outside of that year, we used to always turn down the TV and turn up the radio to hear Fyffe.

I'm sure we weren't the only ones to do so.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."
