On another note, did anyone realize that this girl is 16?  I'm sure they do a lot to make her look younger for the show, but still...I would have guessed younger.  I guess it's because she's so damn short my size.

I think the birds were dead because Joffrey slashed into the pie with a sword.  If you pause the following video at 4:20, you can see that at least one bird's head has been severed.
