I Think I Give Up

I Think I Give Up
« on: December 19, 2012, 03:42:23 PM »
I think I've given up on American politics and any hope for the future.

20 6 and 7 year old children were murdered last Friday.  What's the first thing it did?  Spark a fierce debate that portrays our country as being as divided as ever.

It didn't bring us together. Tell us to put our petty troubles behind us.  Encourage us to drop our guard and feel for each other a little.

It just gave us another opportunity to fight and bicker and claw each other's eyes out.

When 9/11 happened, it was said that our nation united against a common enemy.  I remember watching George Bush on tv and the news pundits showering him with plaudits for his valiant effort to pull us through such a difficult time.

And even during the last eight years, when the left brought on vicious attacks against George Bush and when the right brought on vicious attacks against Barack Obama, I thought that something could happen to unite us again.  A terrorist attack.  A war.  A tragedy of some sorts that opened our eyes to what really matters in life.

But if 20 6 and 7 year old children being slaughtered by a crazed gunman can't do it, then nothing can.  I feel like we're in the shitter until the whole thing crumbles no matter who is in leadership.

I think you are right about the politicians and our government. the divide is wide. I haven't lost all hope, yet. Where do we go for some like-minded government? Europe isn't any better.

Mr. Rogers had a hell of a video about violence on TV. However, TPTB wish to desensitize everyone prior to the Great Culling.

"So another mass-murder conducted by a product of government schools, in a government school, under the government-recommended/mandated care of a government-employed/licensed shrink, on government-approved and government-promoted mind-altering drugs, in a government-mandated weapon-free zone, protected by a government agency the government claims 'serves and protects' (though it is incapable of doing so). Clearly the problem is guns." (Thanks to Sam)

I have lost all hope because they are two sides of the same coin with the same agenda from two different approaches. The end result is the same. Less of everything for us and more of everything, plus what we have, for them and their rich buddies.

The gun folks are out there saying guns don't, you know, guns don't kill people, people kill people. I would say, OK, guns don't kill people, inequality kills people. Why is it that the United States has this horrible problem? We are one of the most unequal countries in the world. And we didn't so much have this problem when we were less unequal, in the '50s, '60s, '70s, we were a very egalitarian society.

This is a correct statement. CEO pay far exceeds worker's pay and has been rising since the 50's.

If the law was written to favor the people and there were more funds to spend on quality psychiatric help, then just maybe, he wouldn't have been on the streets in first place. But rather, safely tucked away in place like Brice. But, "for every action there is a equal and opposite reaction", and in this case, it doesn't look good for sane folks. We will shoulder the burden of inbreeding/over-breeding in this nation (most probably in the form of more authoritarian laws that undermine our liberties). Regardless, the government has to be held somewhat accountable with respect to this action by a lone whack job. Specifically, the judicial system.

Tax loopholes have allowed most corporations to avoid paying taxes in the US. G.E. for example paid zero taxes in 2010.

Quote
For those unaccustomed to the loopholes and shelters of the corporate tax code, GE's success at avoiding taxes is nothing short of extraordinary. The company, led by Immelt, earned $14.2 billion in profits in 2010, but it paid not a penny in taxes because the bulk of those profits, some $9 billion, were offshore. In fact, GE got a $3.2 billion tax benefit.

If the only "solution" that the other side has on this issue is gun control and gun restrictions then (speaking as someone on the right side of the aisle) I don't think we will reach and agreement or "come together".

In my opinion the second amendment as written and in it's context is clear.  The moment We the People suspend or compromise OUR ultimate authority over a government that is supposed to exist to serve us is the moment that we will have a king again...and we'll probably deserve one.

And I bet you probably believe that Eminem's second movie being put on hold has nothing to do with this either, don't you? Connect the dots dude.
