I'm guessing that they couldn't come to terms with Smart (despite his supposedly not being offered) and now they will move to Malzahn. Malzahn will likely take it but if he didn't, next up would have to be Petrino. I can't believe Morris gets hired over Petrino. I neve thought Smart would take it anyway.

I'm thinking the biggest hurdle we must overcome is the perception that JJ is a puppet and won't hand over the keys to let the new HC run the program. I wonder why that perception exists? Petrino may even turn it down. It be sounding bleak to me.

Considering that Alabama hired Saban for $4 million per year in 2007, I wouldn't say that $3.2 million is a lowball offer for a guy who has never been a HC.  If AU is paying Smart that much money, then your AD is a fucktard.
