AUBURN, Alabama – Auburn hasn't
announced a starting quarterback for Saturday's game at Ole Miss, but promised contenders Kiehl Frazier and Clint Moseley would know the decision Friday. "We've got tomorrow to look at film and re-evaluate," Chizik said during his Tiger Talk radio show Thursday night. "I think they all had a good week. We'll know exactly where we're going with it tomorrow. It's not going to be a game-time decision on the field. "We're proud of the way they competed in practice."
Chizik said earlier in the week he'd use Auburn's two main practices – on Tuesday and Wednesday – to determine the starter. Thursday's workout apparently played will play a role, too. Frazier has started the first five games, but Moseley made his season debut last Saturday when he replaced him to start the second half. "It's just like the rest of our team, we're looking for guys who are competing and guys stepping up in practice," Chizik said.
Though he's not competing for the starting job, Chizik said he'd like to see Wildcat quarterback Jonathan Wallace see more action Saturday, too.
• Chizik said freshman offensive tackle Avery Young is "very banged up." "It's a situation right now to see how fast he can get healthy. Avery has been a little beat up, banged up. It's unfortunate," Chizik said.
Fellow freshman Patrick Miller started in Young's place the last two weeks.
• Chizik said practice went well for everybody. "I've got to give our guys a lot of credit. We haven't gone out there and haven't had bad practices. It was a very, very good week. All of our kids where into it," he said.
• Chizik didn't dodge the question of leadership, or lack of it. Some of his players said during the week there wasn't enough among the players.
"We'd love to have a great deal of leadership," he said. "Leadership generally comes from older guys, but it doesn't have to. That was the message to some of our guys. Leadership is guys who aren't necessarily standing up saying something, but it's the way you carry yourself, it's body language in adverse situations."
