Parking Lot Opens For Downtown ScootersCOLUMBUS, Ohio -- Trimming expenses is the name of the game for a growing number of Central Ohioans, and with gas hovering near $4 a gallon, riding bicycles, motorcycles and scooters is growing in popularity.Getting to work on two wheels is becoming so popular that downtown workers are finding it difficult to find a place to park. But parking your scooter will get easier beginning Wednesday, NBC 4's Mike Bowersock reported.The city will open its first scooter parking lot on Gay Street between Third and High.Rick Beam runs a scooter dealership on High Street in Clintonville. His sales have doubled this summer.It's difficult to get an exact estimate as to how many scooters are being operated around the city, but some estimates are as high as 3,000. "With the fuel injection engines, it should get about 100 miles per gallon under normal use," Beam said.But there are drawbacks. Scooters are now mixing into the flow of traffic. Dave Hughes and his wife have started riding scooters to and from work. "It's more of a respect thing and 'you're in my way kind of thing,'" Hughes said.
