With Auburn already holding 19 commitments for the signing class of 2009, available slots are running short. For some players, Auburn will wait. Some will be told to make a decision or risk losing their offers. Just what the final number in the class will be is uncertain, but it will probably be approaching 30. Twenty-five signees can enroll in school in August 2009.

Auburn has expressed serious interest in more than 100 players, but until there is a written offer, there really is no offer at all. A prospect could still seemingly come out of nowhere, but with no more camps this summer, that becomes more unlikely. Auburn coaches also still want to see how some players perform in their senior seasons.

Following is a position-by-position look at some of the players Auburn is still recruiting. It is not an all-encompassing list, but includes players that AuburnUndercover.com believes are most likely to be seriously recruited and have serious interest. There could be and probably are others.

QUARTERBACK

With Raymond Cotton (6-4, 220) in the fold, it's down to Ryan Mossakowski (6-4, 201) from Frisco, Texas. He likes Auburn and Auburn likes him. Offensive lineman Aaron Moore, his Centennial High School teammate, has already committed. Mossakowski said he had a great time at camp Saturday and has a strong relationship with offensive coordinator Tony Franklin. Auburn has a good shot. The best shot? That remains to be seen. If Mossakowski goes elsewhere, Cotton is likely to be the only quarterbackin the class.

WIDE RECEIVER

Dontravious Floyd of South Dade in Homestead, Fla., is one to keep an eye on. Gadsden City’s Kendall Kelly insisted at Saturday’s camp that Auburn is still strongly in the mix. Eric McGriff, the son of former major league baseball player Fred McGriff, had a big day at Auburn's camp.

Some possibilities: Floyd (6-2, 210), South Dade-Homestead, Fla.; Kelly (6-3, 210), Gadsden City; Jheranie Boyd (6-3, 185), Ashbrook, Gastonia, N.C.; Jamal Patterson (6-2, 190), Henry County-McDonough, Ga.; Braxton Lane (5-10, 191), Sandy Creek-Tyrone, Ga.; Lamar Scruggs (6-2, 209), Fletcher-Jacksonville, Fla.; Rontavious Wooten (5-10, 162), Glade Central-Belle Glade, Fla.; Rodney Smith (6-4, 201) Archbishop Carroll-Miami; McGriff (6-3, 190), Jesuit-Tampa

Commitments: Brandon Heavens (5-10, 170, Bessemer Academy); LaVoyd James (5-10, 176), Williamson-Mobile; Travante Stallworth (5-9, 180), Leesville (La.)

RUNNING BACK

One question that is yet to be answered is the status of Rodney Scott of Dixie County High in Cross City, Fla. He’s wavered since committing to the Tigers early, showing significant interest to South Florida. That situation should be resolved soon. The status of Orwin Smith of Central-Phenix City is uncertain.

Some possibilities: Tim Simon (6-2, 200), Cordova; Demond Dennis (5-11, 185) Carver-Atlanta; Smith (6-0, 195) Central-Phenix City; Kendrick Hardy (6-0, 205), Lawrence County-Monticello, Miss.; Jaamal Berry (5-11, 193-Palmetto-Miami.

Commitments: LaDarius Perkins (5-9, 185), St. Joseph-Greenville, Miss.; Scott (5-9, 189), Dixie County-Cross City, Fla.; Brandon Jacobs (6-0, 237) Parkview-Lilburn, Ga.

ATHLETE

Lonnie Pryor of Okeechobee, Fla., didn’t run well at Saturday’s camp. But that doesn’t seem to have alarmed anyone. Pryor is a physical player who can play on either side of the ball.

Some possibilities: Mywan Jackson (5-11, 165), Armwood-Seffner, Fla.; Demario Jeffery (6-3, 215), Columbia (S.C.); Denard Robinson (5-11, 175), Deerfield Beach (Fla.).

TIGHT END

With Philip Lutzenkirchen (6-4, 240) from Lassiter High in Marietta, Ga., already in the fold, the Tigers are likely finished with tight end recruiting.

OFFENSIVE LINE

No more than two slots probably remain on the offensive line. One will be offered this week to Wesley Johnson of Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville.

Some possibilities: Johnson (6-5, 240), Montgomery Bell Academy-Nashville; Steve Jacques (6-3, 280), Hollywood (Fla.); Johnnie Farms (6-2, 280), Perry (Ga.); Brandon Moore (6-5, 312) Carver-Montgomery; Stavion Lowe (6-4, 295), Brownwood (Texas).

Commitments: Aaron Moore (6-2, 250), Centennial, Texas; Andre Harris (6-4, 336), Lovejoy (Ga.).

LINEBACKER

Two top in-state targets – North Jackson’s Tana Patrick and Austin High's D.T. Shackelford - remain on the board. Andalusia’s Nico Johnson is still a target, but he could be a long shot. There’s also Armwood’s Petey Smith, the brother of freshman Auburn running back Eric Smith, and Conor O’Neill of St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. With three already committed, there’s not a lot room.

Some possibilities: Jonathan Atchison (6-3, 215), Douglass-Atlanta; O’Neill (6-1, 195), St. Thomas Aquinas-Fort Lauderdale; Patrick (6-3, 220), North Jackson-Stevenson; Shackelford (6-2, 235), Austin-Decatur; Smith (6-0, 248), Armwood-Seffner, Fla.; Johnson (6-2, 230), Andalusia; Frankie Telfort (5-11, 197), Gulliver Prep-Miami; Jon Bostic (6-2, 225), Palm Beach Central-Wellington, Fla.; Shane Gordon (5-11, 224), Cypress Bay-Weston, Fla.; Corico Hawkins (6-0, 220), Millidgeville, Ga.; Josh Rowe (5-11, 190, Opelika).

Commitments: Jonathan Evans (5-11, 202), Blount-Prichard; Eltoro Freeman (6-2, 218), Mississippi Gulf Coast CC-Perkinston, Miss.; Harris Gaston (6-3, 210), Bessemer Academy.

DEFENSIVE LINE

With five already in the fold with last week’s commitment of St. Clair County’s Dee Ford, there won’t be a lot more defensive linemen added to this class. But no coaching staff ever turns away a big-timer at that position.

Some possibilities: Jamar Travis (6-1, 290), W.S. Neal-Brewton; Anthony Orr (6-5, 261), Sparkman-Harvest; Ryne Giddens (6-4, 230), Armwood-Seffner, Fla.; William Ming (6-4, 250), Athens; Montez Robinson (6-4, 230), Avon, Ind.; Corey Gaines (6-0, 275), Godby-Tallahassee.

Commitments: Terrence Coleman (6-1, 251), Williamson-Mobile; Nick Fairley (6-5, 265), Copiah-Lincoln CC-Wesson, Miss.; Wilfred Journet (6-2, 250), Copiah-Lincoln; Jomantay Pilson (6-2, 258), Greenville.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Reggie Taylor of Fort Valley, Ga., is Auburn’s only defensive back commitment so far, meaning there’s plenty of action to come. Probably the most likely to create some of that action are Pelham’s Alvin Hines, South Panola’s David Conner, Atlanta’s Branden Smith and Vero Beach’s Zeke Motta.

Some possibilities: Conner (5-11, 190), South Panola-Batesville, Miss.; Hines (6-0, 195), Pelham; Smith (5-11, 180), Washington-Atlanta; Mike Jones (6-2, 197), Edgewater-Orlando; Darren Myles (6-2, 180), Carver-Atlanta; D.J. Swearinger (5-11, 196), Greenwood (S.C.); Rod Woodson (5-11, 200), Olive Branch (Miss.).

Commitment: Taylor (5-11, 175), Peach County-Fort Valley, Ga.
