KISS/Motley Crue The Tour 2012...
« on: August 01, 2012, 05:39:05 AM »
Got back from once of the best concerts that I've seen in a while, both Crue and Kiss put on one hell of a show.

I'll post pictures later. There's a few that I'm sure Kaos will like.

Kaos was there.  Friend got me backstage to meet the bands.  Lifelong dream to be in the same room with KISS both in and out of makeup.  Funny to see them as just regular guys.  Could be fake but they do seem to be getting along pretty well.

Crazy situation backstage that had nothing to do with either band.  I got there about 2 and the loading area was completely flooded from the storms that had come through.  Water up above the truck doors and it was nearly impossible to get the stage sets in.  Some of the crew got into a nest of water moccasins washed out by the flood and at least one got bitten and had to be carted out by ambulance.

The people who'd paid for the meet and greets had to cross the flood on wooden platform pieces that came out of the crates that held the sets.

The flood backstage was so bad that as late as 3-3:30 they were pretty sure they'd have to cancel.  But somebody (I guess from the city?) got enough pumps going that they could get it pumped out enough to get the trucks in to load.  They were scrambling like crazy to get it done.  All those thousands of people had no idea how close they came to the show not getting done.

The shows were awesome.  Pretty obvious the bands are having fun.  We should all enjoy our jobs that much.

My friend did say (and I saw minor hints) that KISS and Crue aren't getting along particularly well.  Gene's ego and Crue's reluctance to be told what to do are causing some clashes in terms of how things go.  But it's not affecting the shows.  I think they're both professional enough to make it work -- unlike Van Halen.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Yeah, I wasn't sure if they'd still have it either. I had to call ticket master three times to make sure, they didn't know until around 4ish. Then when we got there, our normal tailgate spot was under water. Our friends had to wade through the that nasty water because they parked at the mattress place on the other side. I've got a couple funny pictures of one of my friends carrying his pants, that he took off so as to not get wet (lucky he was wearing boxers, lol). Everyone behind him was all, ”WTF”. It was one of the best shows that I've been to in a long time (my favorite is still the GunsNRoses mud pit back in '91, iirc)

I thought Testament was pretty good as the opening band, but not good enough to cause either KISS or Crue to cut the sets short.   The 13-song sets that both bands did are the shortest sets either has ever done on purpose.

I did get to watch the acoustic set KISS did backstage which was pretty cool.  It was sort of frustrating because they were willing to play almost anything people wanted, but were looking for suggestions for things that were maybe obscure -- stuff like Goin' Blind or Mr.Speed.  But the dorks back there -- many who paid who knows how much to be there -- were yelling "Rock and Roll All Nite!"  "Love Gun,"  "Detroit Rock City!"  "Beth" and shit like that.  Paul asked if they had ever seen a show and didn't they know they would play most of that on stage.  Then one little kid -- maybe three years old -- asked if they'd play RnR and they relented.  Also did Beth.  And Rock Bottom.

I hoped they'd do Shandi but nobody asked for it.  It's one of the few songs I've never heard them do live that I want to hear.

Out of curiosity does anybody know what Mick Mars had on his face?  Was he painted up?   He never lifted his head enough for me to tell for sure.

He was like that in Vegas.  Just seems to be his thing.   He is in pretty shitty health for 61 but most of that is due to the scoliosis.

You meet a man on the Oregon Trail. He tells you his name is Terry. You laugh and tell him: "That's a girl's name!" Terry shoots you. You have died of dissin' Terry.
