Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

From what I've read we were not having this return problem in Georgia but I was very surprised to read in this article about a family 'fleeing into exile' to Atlanta.

Obviously the liberal writer wanted to tug on the heartstrings by presenting the emotional, personal tales of woe e.g. the little kid crying and crying because they had no friends in their Los Angeles apartment (with 20 other relatives).  After living in Alabama for 15 years you would have thought that they could have found some time to apply for citizenship.

And I'd like to point out that these are exactly the kind of folk that Gingrich wants to give amnesty to after having been productive workers as he often pointed out in past debates.  It's nice to know too that they have such great support and advocacy organizations in Bamaham.

Gingrich is a great ideas-man but I don't particularly like his ideas for illegals.  He has claimed that if an illegal has been here in the US for 10-15-20 years or so and been a productive worker and good member of the community that this should entitle them to special consideration and fast-track approval for a legal status i.e. citizenship.  I don't see this issue as that nuanced.

These folk that he's singling-out broke the law of this nation as their first act in this country regardless of how good a member of the community that they are or have been.  We've made deportation such a joke that it's no longer taken seriously; we've made border control a joke despite the incessant heightened security status; we've allowed the birthright citizenship to become so liberalized that it's cheapened what it means to be citizen of this country;  and this irresponsible attitude of offering amnesty (using different nomenclature because Gingrich knows that is not a word that is well-received) is not a serious answer to the problem.

How do you know that?

"'Papers, please.'"

or, if you prefer,

"'Ihre Papiere, bitte.'"

It's what I get asked when I travel to another country.

Why don't you people get it?  Those poor illegal aliens are not to blame for being in this country illegally.  They've done nothing wrong by sneaking into this country or letting their Visas expire.  They've done nothing wrong using a fraudulent Social Security Number or stealing someone else's identity to obtain a job.  They're VICTIMS, and they need our help!

Usually agree with you on these things, but you're dead wrong. Gingrich hasn't once used the word amnesty. These people he speaks of can choose to take a legal pathway as a choice. If they refuse, then deportation. He hasn't once said the word amnesty or even the mentioned the principle behind it. If I were you I would quit listening to Karl Rove and the foxnews neocons in regards to this. They'll fill your head full of shit.

Some people actually think that deporting 30 million people is feasible. Have fun with that.

All newt is doing is offering a sensible soution. All of the other solutions are at both extremes and not feasible, those being full amnesty and deportation. Offering a legal path would work. Although ignorance of the law isn't an excuse, many of these immigrants don't even understand what the law is. If they are found without documentation, explain to them the law, give them a chance to do it right and if they don't want to, at that point either deport them or jail them. The biggest thing right now is to stop the bleeding at the border. If that isn't fixed, all of the other is a moot point.

I love Mexican food.

Real Mexican food.

Not the cheap-diarrhea-inducing vat of beef with red sauce and cheese bullshit you get at most places.

I mean the hole in the wall Mexican market that serves tacos al chicharron or tacos al lengua or tacos al cabeza or tamales or sopas or napales.
