Illegal immigrants ain't git same rights as you and me. 

Essentially, the police and schools now have the right to question suspected illegal immigrants about their status. 

I'm still a little unsure about the roles of the schools, but supposedly if a student does not have a birth certificate on file or some kind of proof that they're here legally, they are to be removed from the school immediately.

Sounds fine to me. This should be the status quo. You should check out some of the harsh immigration policies of some countries. The Key Word here is "legal". If they are not "legal" they are ILLEGAL, as in against the LAW. It is that simple. I am sure a lawyer will tell us all that it isn't though.

We have ESL teachers here trying to organize a rally.  I just smirk at them.  I wonder if they actually care about these people.  Strange that non-ESL teachers aren't getting involved. 

I only hope that those enforcing this law don't take advantage of it.  I understand they're illegals and need to go back, but they should still be treated fairly.

Oh my gawd!!!  An actual burf certificate???  When I was younger, I remember having to show my birth certificate when enrolling in a school.  Come to think of it, I also needed it when registering for extracurricular sports programs.  Oh...  The humanity...

I wouldn't believe that anyone's actually advocating any poor treatment of illegal immigrants.  In fact, it would be great if the states would just require proof of citizenship (or appropriate Visa/permit) to receive benefits and other privileges.  No education...  No welfare...  No driver's license...  And, so on... 

We wouldn't have to ship them back.  They'd eventually move on to Canada...

The Pharaoh's Justice Dept. has made a project of trying to stop Georgia's new law also but to no avail so far...I assume that they'll come after Alabama too.

While the ACLU still lives and breathes, they figure they can bilk the hard working legal residents for billions more before it gets to the point where they will actually leave. We've given them no reason to believe that this will actually become common practice. If they can just hold out long enough, liberalism will save them.

Seriously though, this shit is going to put a major strain on local courts.  Although we have 287g in our county (And I think we are one of the few) if they are arrested, they must clear up any and all district court issues before ICE can take custody.  Jails across the state could be beyond capacity in only a few days. 

So I wonder.  Do we want our jails full of people who are here illegally, or do we want them full of people who are using/selling drugs and burglarizing residences? 

I hate this law.

Because it is a problem.  I hate this law because I worry for their human rights.  But I love it because I'm tired of watching my job's budget get depleted while 24% (and growing) of my school's population pays zilch to be there.

No one really knows.  The original law did, and it gave citizens the right to sue the local law enforcement if they didn't arrest illegals.  I know that part was blocked, but it's still to the point that no one can explain what exactly needs to be enforced. 

But yeah, if our law enforcement is going to be forced to question and arrest illegal immigrants, they aren't going to have time to work actual crimes like burglaries and drugs.  It's bullshit, and it's going to end up being a task force assigned primarily to that.  Which means more jobs for local agencies to budget for, and more dollars tax dollars being used for law enforcement. 

I'm against it, I'm against 95% of what ICE does during daily operations, but I don't have a solution.  So....

Because it is a problem.  I hate this law because I worry for their human rights.  But I love it because I'm tired of watching my job's budget get depleted while 24% (and growing) of my school's population pays zilch to be there.

I don't have an answer, but I know what isn't the answer.  Arresting them and placing them in jail isn't it.  It crowds the jails.  It crowds the district courts (which we are already cutting down because of state budget problems).  It stretches an already thin law enforcement agency.  It will put an even greater strain on DHR, who will have to be called for any children who's parents will be arrested.  And it still won't work.  ICE will take custody of them after the state pays to house and feed them for 2-3 weeks, then ICE will hold them for months before flying them back to _______________.  In 2 weeks, they'll be back. 

It's political banter, nothing more.  BUT, I am shocked (along with every other LE official) that the entire law wasn't blocked.  The fact that a good bit of it was allowed to stand has caught everyone by surprise, and to be quite honest, nobody actually knows what is supposed to be enforced.

There's no doubt that we've been handling it incorrectly for decades, and many of the current attempts to solve the problem are a bit overzealous, as you have indicated.  We need to stop it somehow.  Cutting off the local and federal government giveaway programs would be a nice start...  Enforcing e-Verify programs would be curb illegal employment...  There's no single solution to completely resolve this overnight, but we can take measures to address this without imposing too much burden on local law enforcement or anyone else for that matter.
