Total BS.  Slater walked in and told Jacobs he realized he wasn't getting it done and wanted to take that job as a stocker at Wal Mart he'd been offered.  Jacobs offered him a raise and then offered to skob his knob right then and there.  Because Slater is smarter than Jacobs, he took the skobbing and then quit anyway.
