What's up with the tiger striped seats?  Is that just for the video or something they are really looking at doing?

I'm assuming that's the real deal with the striped seats and what not.  Gives it a nice little touch but (as Mr. Jass put it) makes it more obvious when they're empty.  That place is going to be a major improvement, though.  Very nice.  I wonder what kind of HDMI cables they're going to be running on that new hi-def big screen in there?

Well...I can't seem to get teh ebays video to run on my pc...the striped seats sound like a bit much but otherwise the place looks great in the architectural renderings that I've seen.  Looking forward to seeing some games there...with or without Lebo coaching.

Somehow missed this one.....

The little video pisses me off because it sounds like a low-budget public-service-announcement, and it makes me want to joke on my alma mater
I am irritated by the selection process from 16 months ago, and that I think the building could have been better for less
I would have suggested engaging a different construction manager, perhaps someone who had some experience with assembly venues
I would have suggested engaging a relatively local design firm, particularly one who has a much more extensive collegiate basketball portfolio, someone who has more interest in this particular project than it being just another resume-builder.

$93M was a lot for a 9600 seat building, and now I understand it is over $100M?

Fair eough. I don't know much about the selection process. I will say that the cost is not just for a 9600 seat arena though. It looks to have a nice pllayers lounge, workout facilities, really nice suites, and there are also nice locker rooms for the mens BB team ad womens VB. I don't think it is just the BB seating area that costs so much...there is a lot more going into it than that.

I don't think it sounds like a low budget public service announcement and it doesn't make me want to make fun of Auburn. But I understand why you may be irritated at the cost and at the selection process...I just don't know enough to have an opinion on that aspect...

Not sure about the rest of it...but we hired an architectural firm with a hell of a lot of experience with arenas such as this.

Sounds like sour grapes.  Do you work for one of the firms that did not get selected or are you just normally this pessimistic and critical?

I am definitely not a pessimist, and certainly not an architect or construction manager, so no sour grapes.  My concern is simply whether this project that is so important to us has an "A" team working on it.  That particular firm is also working on several other high-profile projects, and the way it ends up is what is most important to the firm is what usually gets the experienced design professionals within the office.  Which current projects do you think are most important to that firm - the new $1B NFL stadium, $400M MLB park, the $850M entertainment district in their own backyard, or this collegiate basketball arena?  Now consider that evidently the firm in question has not produced any of those projects previously without being partnered with some of the more established sports design firms in KC.  Is our arena getting the full service and attention that we would want it to receive for what is being paid, or is it a figurative notch on the belt of someone halfway across the country?

Don't get me wrong - it will be so much nicer than the old colisseum.  But for the price, and the return?  I would have pushed for a $70M basketball facility and put the other $30M into revenue-generating stadium enhancements.  It's almost like our basketball program is in as dire straits as uat footbaw - must we go throw Sabanesque money at facilities to try to gain relevance?  Just my take, I could be wrong - but I could be right.

Not to be arguementative...but I thought you said you wanted a "construction manager, perhaps someone who had some experience with assembly venues". This sounds like a company that has a ton of experience in this department. You also stated "someone who has more interest in this particular project than it being just another resume-builder." How would a company be using this as a resume builder if it is one of the smaller projects???

You can't have both sides of the arguement here...which side are you on...your first point, or where you contradicted yourself in your second point. I don't have a choice either way...I would just like you to pick a side and stick with it...
