Davis is still day to day after getting injured in the Clemson game
Head coach Gene Chizik said sophomore cornerback Chris Davis’ outlook is still cloudy for the South Carolina game on Saturday.
Davis missed the Florida Atlantic game last weekend after leaving in the second half of the Tigers’ 38-24 loss to Clemson a week before.
“He’s worked some this week,” Chizik said. “Right now it’s going to be up to game time. He’s running a little bit out there, but there’s still a lot of work to go before he’ll be able to perform.”
Chizik said Davis will travel with the team.
Cornerbacks coach Phillip Lolley said Davis has been working to get back in the flow of the defense this week.
“It’s no different than a very good hitter in baseball, timing and everything,” Lolley said. “We’re just going to take it a step at a time and look for whether he can help us this weekend.

LaDarius Owens will fill in for the injured Delaine who is out for the season with a knee injury.
Auburn coach Gene Chizik said redshirt freshman defensive end Justin Delaine “is not going to be back this year” after suffering a knee injury on special teams early in the Tigers’ 41-34 win over Mississippi State on Saturday.
“Without going into details, it happened in the game Saturday,” Chizik said. “I think everybody saw that.”
Delaine recorded two tackles with 0.5 TFL in the season opener against Utah State.
Redshirt freshman LaDarius Owens — who saw his first collegiate action at defensive end Saturday, recording an assisted tackle — will be expected to fill in for Delaine at third-team end.
Owens switched to end from linebacker over the summer.
“LaDarius is working really hard getting adjusted to putting his hand down,” Chizik said. “But he’s improving.”

Gus Malzahn taught Clemson's Offensive Cordinator Chad Morris, but the Teacher always knows more than the young Grasshopper.
Gus Malzahn feels like Dabo Swinney owes him something this weekend.
It’s the least the Clemson head coach can do for Malzahn, seeing as how he served as the chief talent scout for Swinney’s new offensive coordinator, Chad Morris.
Swinney said Malzahn texted him Monday telling him that reward should amount to spotting him a touchdown this weekend.
“Before the national championship game, (Swinney) called me about four or five times during that week. We definitely talked about Chad,” Malzahn said. “(Swinney’s) a great guy.”
Morris, in his first year with the Tigers, and Malzahn — though they’ll be on opposite sidelines this weekend — have been close collaborators since 2003, when both were but high school coaches.
They’ve both done quite well for themselves since then.

Cam calls Trotter to show that Auburn love.
It’s not just his giant GQ face—Cam Newton’s million dollar heart is apparently still at Jordan-Hare as well, a fact Gus Malzahn didn’t mind sharing with Kevin Scarbinsky for a “Told You So” column on the Blessed Individual’s critic clobbering NFL debut:
Oh, and Malzahn has a message for anyone that believed Newton was a mercenary done with Auburn after his Pro Day there. Guess who called Malzahn after Barrett Trotter made an impressive debut of his own in Auburn’s opening win over Utah State?
Newton.
“I texted him,” Malzahn said. “He called me.”
Seems that Newton and another former Tiger with the Panthers, Lee Ziemba, had watched their old school’s electric comeback.
“They were excited for us,” Malzahn said. “Cam was very excited for Barrett. I think they talked that day, too.”
