Tigers set for NCAA East Regional
The SEC Champion Auburn women’s golf team will return to the course this week as the Tigers travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., for the NCAA East Regional Championship.

Auburn, ranked 13th in the country, is one of 24 teams at the regional vying for one of eight spots in the NCAA Championship.

The tournament is a 54-hole stroke play event hosted by Stetson University. The par-72 course will play at 6,271 yards for the three-day tournament. Tee times are set to begin at 7 a.m. Thursday.

The NCAA East Regional is one of three qualifying tournaments for the NCAA Championship, set for May 18-21 at the Traditions Club at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. The top eight teams from each of the three regionals will advance to the NCAA Championship.

The Tigers will take an experienced lineup to the NCAA East Regional, filling out a lineup of Cydney Clanton, Haley Wilson, Patricia Sanz, Marta Sanz and Carlie Yadloczky. Clanton was recently named to the All-SEC First Team, while Marta Sanz was selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

SOFTBALL

Murphy named to SEC Community Service Team
Auburn junior Morgan Murphy was named to the Southeastern Conference Softball Community Service Team, the league office announced Wednesday.

Murphy, from Germantown, Tenn., currently serves as the Auburn Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President and is the 2011-2012 SAAC President-Elect. Murphy is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and has volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Auburn.

“Community service is an important part of being a student-athlete at Auburn University,” Auburn head coach Tina Deese said. “Morgan takes it very seriously and has done an outstanding job working in the community and representing her team and Auburn. We are very proud of her.”

Murphy has also participated in the Auburn Student-Athlete Day and collected goods and helped market the SEC Together We Can Food Drive, the BeatBama Food Drive and Toys for Tots.

Murphy was also a 2010 SEC Community Service Team Member is majoring in broadcast journalism. Murphy has appeared in 13 games this season and has one home run.

MEN’S TENNIS

Puetz, Cochrane selected to NCAAs
The NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Subcommittee selected Auburn senior Tim Puetz into the field of 64 singles players and the Tigers’ No. 1 duo of Puetz and freshman Daniel Cochrane into the field of 32 doubles teams that will compete in the 2011 NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championships. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at the Taube Tennis Center in Palo Alto, California, following the conclusion of the team championships.

“We expected it, and they earned it,” Auburn head Coach Eric Shore said. “Tim Puetz has had a great senior year. This is good for Cochrane with it being his freshman year and I am proud of them.”

Puetz, who is ranked 12th in singles as well as in doubles, has posted a 16-3 (7-2 SEC) record in the No. 1 spot for the 23rd-ranked Tigers. Puetz has also recorded nine victories over opponents ranked in the ITA Top 100.

In doubles, Puetz and Cochrane have posted a 13-7 (6-5 SEC) record in the No. 1 spot for the Tigers this season. Of those 13 wins, three have come against ranked opponents. The German and British combo has won seven out of their last 10 matches, including the last three.
